I wish all the rumors would stop

Please, they are really starting to give me hope, lol.  I don't know how many times I have read "On Feb 1st they are changing it again, back to pre-cu" or something else. I mean, from the lack of DEV input on the forums it is kinda easy to believe because this lack of communication thing usually means change....or the last few times it has. I wish the rumors were true, but they are not...the NGE crap is here to stay, no matter how bad it is.

But if you have proof of changes I will gladly read it and be happy.image

Look, SOE/LA would rather eat after birth from Starr Jones then change anything back to
pre-NGE/CU2. the main reason for this is that they would rather have things tank, then ADMIT
any mistake/fault on their part. trust me they know that messed up bad and under-estimated
the mass exodus of vets when they tried to covertly implement the new changes but never
really thought about the consequences in my humble opinion. if they rolled back even one
server some people might come back but SOE/LA would still be admitting fault/mistake. Also
with that being said it admits that there new online social engineering scheme (NGE) was
an absolute failure and a further waste of time, money and effort. Heck if the old servers
were back up you sure as hell know none of the bugs would be fixed and all of the carebears
would be back griefing and moaning within 3 days on the forums. Sorry Blister138, but i
think SWG is nothing but a walking zombie that is in need of a bullet (our wallets)
    between the eyes.

of coarse this is just all opinion.

Arnott Nostromo - SWG/MBH dead because of SOE's NGE

Kreeping Death - City of Villians and is canceled due to a horrid lack of depth

Padan Fain - UO/TH still going strong (old habits are hard to break)

Rumors will happen no matter what. Strangely its become human nature to spread rumors, both good and bad. I have heard all sorts of rumors about the game. But since the NGE there has been a decided rise in them.

The only one I think might have some substance is the one about LEC looking to other game companies, like Cryptic Studios and Sigil Games, to hand SWG over too when the Febuary 6th deadline hits. Thats the day the contract is supposed to be up with SOE. I have one friend, works for Epic and he has told me that LEC has talked to various game companies about this. However I also know, even if they have no intention of doing it they will still "ask around" so to speak.

So while that rumor has some truth I dont know just how true it is. But it seems likely they are asking other game companies about it.

One thing that interests me about that rumor -- which I don't really believe will lead anywhere, even if true -- was the tidbit that the negotiations were for "pre-publish 9" code. I suspect that the "pre-publish 9" was wishful thinking, but if it wasn't, that would be very interesting.

First, the pre-publish 9 code probably represents the most stable and workable code base. Up until that point, the bulk of the publishes had been aimed at fleshing out the original game design -- adding in the things cut from launch, but which were in the original design docs and written by the original coding staff.

At publish nine, they started monkeying with the Jedi code and tweaking combat numbers prior to the Combat Revamp (which never took place, giving us the level-based idiocy of the CU).

So the pre-publish 9 code is probably the easiest to maintain -- even do minor content additions or bug fixes -- for a totally foreign development team, assuming they snagged the relevent documentation as part of the bargain. (Almost a given, there. I'd guess that the contract is pretty simple: Sony was paid to develop and maintain the game for LucasArts, who maintains all rights to the code).

Secondly, it represents Galaxies in it's purest virtual world sense -- which would be the most profitable to  administer (the fans of that were devoted, often owned multiple accounts, and would be more likely to come back if SOE didn't have anything to do with it -- and most importantly, represent the customer types who would continue to play for long periods of time. Less churn.) It would also be far less competitive towards future Star Wars MMORPGs, which will probably follow the level-based WoW model.

Thirdly -- if you were a company with a solid team (and maybe some thoughts towards luring back a few of the better vetern designers), it would be mighty tempting -- especially if you happened to be of the mind that rushed development and poor engineering practices were the core of the problem, not the virtual world model -- to take the game and see if you could make it what it was supposed to be, and see if you got the customers.

It's not a bad prospect, in any sense. You don't have to pay for development costs -- probably just some upfront money and royalities to LAs. You're going to have a fairly stable product with a built in fan base -- (pulling a number out at random, I would guess maybe as many as 50k) -- and there's the prospect of more. I'd be tempted -- I'd want access to Sony's internal surveys and numbers (which LucasArts probably owns) on the game, to try to eyeball the subs I could get and the money would have to be right -- but you're looking at a steady profit, and if you actually allocate a few resources to it you might be able to flip the bird at Sony by making their product more playable.

Which isn't bad PR for your company, either. "They took the cursed mess of Galaxies and made it a stable, if much smaller, game -- while Sony crashed and burned."

Don't think it's likely. I suspect LA is simply trying to see if they can give SWG to someone that doesn't have SOE's word-of-mouth problems, in order to be getting some profits off their game while developing their next attempt. The arrangement with a third party, at this point, would be very different than extending the one with SOE (for two examples: SOE's bad PR with Galaxies, and the fact that SOE would almost certainly prefer to be using it's assets for their next MMORPGS, rather than have them tooling around SWG. Not enough profits for two giants like SOE and LA).

I read from a reputable source at $OE... take it for what you will...

That a company MADE THE OFFER to $OE and LA for the publish 9 code. $OE decided they didn't want the competition from what many think is a better game and refused.
