Just saw the trailer and couldn't help but think about it in MMORPG terms, then thinking about SOE's unanounched new MMORPG. It has several races including a fluffy hardass racoon race, a hugh "galaxy"
What do you think? to far fetched?

Edit: or just as a idea for a MMORPG?

Dunno.... a link would be nice so we could see what you were talking about.
Ratero.
Marvel already has a MMO. Guardian of the Galaxy is just another Marvel IP (in the same setting as Avengers, Thor and the X-Men too).
Both could co-excist,because GotG is in a completly different time-line.
Then again it might conflict with DCUO.....
Just thinking out loud.....
Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.
To be honost this is actually the first time I felt this way about a movie trailer in MMORPG terms, when I saw at 2.03min the line up and just wondered what planets those 4 other then human races came from and what that could be in like a MMORPG.

That is just semantics. Close enough to a MMO to me.
BTW, Marvel Heroes already have rocket raccoon in the game.
It's not a different time-line. For example, the current GotG storyline is based on something that happened in the last event in the X-men books.
Also, the GoTG movie is another step in bringing the Infinity Gauntlet Saga to the big screen. There have been pieces of the gauntlet shown in the Avengers and latest Thor movies (including the gauntlet itself).
Main Game: Eldevin (Plat0nic)
2nd Game: Path of Exile (Platonic Hate)
This could apply to any sci-fi movie. Might even work the other way around. Millions of players play mmo's currently, how many of them you think work in the movie industry at the moment. Or in the comic industry. Their sympathy to games might influence the way other entertainment pieces are made.
Personally I am 100% sure, that only original ideas that are inspired, and made into mmo since the birth of the idea have chance to turn into decent game, while any mmo made out of existing IP will be just forced, rushed and badly designed. I prefer creating new IP's any time over using ones that weren't originally made to be a game. Examples of how this turned out so far are all over the place.
i think that SOE will stay the funk away from licenses going forward.
Beyond that i don´t think that GoTG would make a very good MMO... The scope is way to narrow (unless you flip the perspective.. Do a search on Nova Corps... But beware of potential spoilers)
Generally i have yet to see any cross-media license MMO do well... There is a reason that Marvel went action and Transformers MOBA.
This have been a good conversation
Their next mmo will be a grim slightly futuristic post- apocalyptic type game like fallout or mad max. It will use all the assets of landmark, planetside 2 and eqnext to get the most bang for the buck and will be developed at the same time as eq next.
it will be called everquest for gas
As for the Movie?
I still want a Firefly movie. 5 people, in a ship, all criminals. Anyone seeing it?
As for the MMO?
Same.
They made soooo little out of the Marvel IP it was mind-blowing. All we got out of the fun movies, the wide range of excellent characters and the wealth of background available was a by-the-numbers clone of Diablo. Incredible let-down.
Nice trailer, by the way. Rocket will instantly become an Internet meme.
I understand that it could apply to any sci-fi movie but as said I never felt that way before.
It's not that I want a GotG MMORPG, it's just that it showed so much it would/could fit in a MMORPG
It could also be that I am not that familiar with GotG apart from some small references in some comic books and now this movie that I might have more "imagination" about the IP then one who might actually knows the IP very well.
Overall felt GotG more fitting as a MMO then the superhero MMO's currently out there.
But as said just speaking out loud.
