It does not matter if it's alpha or pre-alpha footage. Bottom line is, when you sell something you make a presentable version. You never show the guts or the worst version of your product to the public.
Originally posted by Avarix Surprised at all the comments about graphics. For me the actual gameplay is far more important. I am clearly not alone in that, or games like Minecraft and Starbound wouldn't be so popular. When did MMORPGs even become a genre capable of having graphic snobs?
Graphics don't need to be top notch to me. But they need to be decent. Great gameplay will keep me playing for a long time but it's got to be at least somewhat visually appealing for me to explore the game enough to even experience gameplay. Right now, I can see the points that a lot of the posters are making and agree that it looks pretty rough. The movement isn't so hot, the UI looks like a rough placeholder, and the "out of range" would drive me crazy. The fire at 1:38 was pretty sweet so I expect the team has potential. I'm not willing to write the game off like (presumably) some of the others are. But based on the footage, I would guess/hope that we're looking at a game that's at least 18-24 months away from launch.
ETA for EE is Fall, as they've hit all their Milestones to date. Sure alpha will be a bigger test starting eta March. I'm personally fine with lower quality graphics: It's not as sumptious as Gloria Victus eg, but they're kicking off much smaller player-base and I think most of those ie a few 000 compared to a hundred 000 of most mmorpg aaa launch expectations, will be happy enough. I almost feel tempted to say if people don't like the graphics that's good, but as above the graphics are just another component of the whole experience (visual most immediate but not most lasting).
All these systems will start off basic in the Early Enrollment, however.
Thank you. I appreciate it.
This sounds interesting.
"It won't be easy or quick to reach the 20th-level capstone in an archetype. Some of the prerequistes for archetype merit badges will be hard to achieve and will require your character to succeed in some extraordinary adventures. In terms of sheer time, I'd like to see the first 20th-level characters emerge around two-and-a-half-years after launch. Capstone-level characters should be unique, powerful individuals not commonly encountered."
Bingo *Lesley Neelson voice*. They've updated the "Capstone" idea according to discussion from players in the forums and replaced it with "Role Features" (still 2.5yrs max per "path" to 20): More at: You've Got the Brawn, I've Got the Brains - tbh can't quite remember the accuracy of that but it's overall a synergy thing the more you slot "role features of a family" or something like that. For Gear look up keywords in the blog.

Not anymore with alpha/beta/soft-launching/crowd-funding/sourcing. The video is a "backer's update" and it's free to view to anyone else. The cost of that is people will dismiss a game with inferior graphics but the upside is the growing a community and involving them sooner in the design and development process. Goblinworks has got to this stage of development in about 1 year, and aim to delta release in the Fall, which compares to the usual 4-6 years of development of an AAA themepark mmorpg that has closed betas and NDAs etc.
