OMG I just spent $15!

KopogeroKopogero Member UncommonPosts: 1,685

From 2013 until now I've spent $30 on MMO's and now extra $15 on guess what...the same MMO that took those $30.

So, why I decided to resub back to WOW....the decade old MMORPG?

#1 I like the high skill cap, fast paced, fluid + gear/stats based combat

#2 PvP season 15 starts this Tuesday. Good time to gear up for it. Hopefully this time with some of the peeps I met from September-October 2013 I can push above 2k+ rating (last time, that was the main issue I quit, I couldn't find 2k+ players that were matching my class/comp)

#3 I have no hype/interest in anything coming in 2014. It's too early to know about Wildstar and there are some mixed predictions.

#4 If I'm spending/being milked on a MMORPG I'll do it on the one that deserves the $ and Blizzard does for making WOW such a great overall MMO in the last decade.

#5 WOW is a great, social MMORPG. Either I choose to raid or arena or RBG I communicate with players. Having a mic is like a must for all WOW players these days...

#6 There are no major exploits, cheats, just botting issues, which don't significantly impact what the endgame is about. It is also competitive and with the recent cross realm, real ID and OQ addon, players can play together from all servers...So it will never feel dead/empty for anyone.

#7 Most importantly, this community mmorpg.com picked it for me and it makes me even happier to spend $ on it for further development. This was the thread http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/405271/page/1

So yea, I gave my 2 cents here. Hopefully you all found your MMORPG home for this year. I do hope in future Blizzard makes at least it's PvE/raiding more competitive/appealing for the players...

OMG you spent 15$ on an MMO, you fool!  LOL there are Free games everywhere to play.  F2P IS THE FUTURE OF ALL GAMES.   And don't tell me your going to spend ANOTHER 15 DOLLARS IN 30 DAYS.  Are you nuts are you CRAZY!

I get everything in life for free, my games, my health care, mom and dad pay for the house I live in, they buy my cloths and feed me.  Why would anyone pay for anything in this life if you can find someone else to pay for it for you!!

Nothing in life is worth paying for me just read through these forums and apply the same F2P logic to real life and you'll see you've been doing it wrong all these years.

Me Ill just be sitting here waiting for ESO and Wildstar to go F2P.  Even though I really want to play them I shouldn't have to pay for them.  Just remember, computer games have no value they are made by elf's at night while we all sleep.

    MMO's

The new porn. Only suckers pay for that stuff.

I'm out around 15 grand over the years.

I'ma go hide in a corner and sob now.

If you enjoy your time in the game he cost is no longer a factor, the 15 bucks is a cheap investment for entertainment.

LOL! An apt description of the average MMOer these days.

    Well played, sir.

On topic: Yes, WoW is a fun game - and even though I haven't played it in a long time I can acknowledge that. Have fun!

I agree with all your reasons, and for pretty much the same conclusion that you made, myself and my little gaming group will likely be heading back to WoW soon. Why fight it? its just better then everything else out there.

Didn't spend a dime on mmos in 2013, but so far in 2014 paid CCP for 2 subs for 2 months so far, likely to be more.

Also bought digital collectors edition of ESO so I'm definitely in for subs this year, but they all pale when compared cost of the new computer to play them on.

I think that if you enjoy WoW, 15$ is a fair price to pay .  Blizzard has worked hard to keep their customers happy and invested for years.  I personally have not played a game that I feel like I want to stay involved in, for a very long time.  I do not think every short range game with an MMORPG title deserves my continual monthly payments.  When companies have a weak product that doesn't keep me invested, I don't pay and shouldn't feel obligated to pay to keep the crap runny.

Additionally, I would LOVE to be paying a sub for a game right now.

I will probably be flamed for this but meh. WoW has its unique aspects but IMO it is not worth the 15 a month. The combat is actually a lot more sluggish then some of the F2P MMOs i have played where you can use all your skills one after another with no break in between unless you run out of mana.  And the community seemed a bit....rude for a lack of a better word. If you like WoW more power too you i personally have enjoyed games like tera online untill they started focusing more on the cash shop >> and also games such as SWTOR or even if you want to go old school Ultima online.

If you choose a themepark this really is the best option, soo much hate on this game cause other MMO's copies them. I want to get back to it but not until WoD, I beat SoO on normal and that's all I cared to do till x-pac.

I do find it funny when people think WoW started it all. they took ideas from MMOS such as UO/EQ/EQ2 and such. they did improve them but they never came up with them. and to me WoW died with TBC

No offense, but I feel as though you feel the need to justify.

Seriously though, WoW is a good game in the fact that it is not so unpredictable. We know that if we invest in it right now, there isn't anything that will make us regret it, except for our inability to push as much time into it as we'd like, just in order to get our $15 worth each month.

All of the new MMORPGs I imagine would take risk, and are potential ticking time bombs. Anything thrown towards them will either pay off or just be another 'I told you so' story.

No need to go all sarcastic and whiny. Morhaime has said that eventually WoW will go F2P. When it reaches the end of of its development cycle. That'll be about the time they release their next big-hitter so yeah, in a way F2P is the future whether you like it or not.

Oh and one more thing you P2P whiners I don't agree with. You pay 60$ upfront for "the box" and you get a "free month" (LOL). There it is, you've payed the development cost FOR YOU. You've purchased the game, you own it, its yours ........ but then you miss a payment....and you are locked out of service ... and your game becomes as good as the garbage you throw everyday :) . Demands whats yours, demand with your money and care less how a large corporation makes its money.

ArenaNet have found the way. Every other subscription MMO just looks as a cash grab, feels like a cash grab and plays like a freaking cash grab  THEN IT IS a cash grab. Without those 15$ each month the 60$ you pay upfront mean absolutely nothing. You don't own anything.

Sure you can go to a private server, to enjoy YOUR game, but then the big corporations get sad and sue the private server hosters into oblivion :). So in a way your 60$ for "the box" ... which is a digital download anyway .... is basically a donation to a large corporation ...

    Way to go sheeple

I spent more than $200 on MMO's/MOBAS in 2013... I don't know how much exactly, probably between $200-$300,

$100-$170 in Age of Wushu. Damn why'd that game have to become a ghost town. I really enjoyed it and wouldn't have any regrets if it wasn't evacuated like people running from the plague.

$100~ on LoL: I still have quite a bit of game currency left, so I can play the game off and on for several years and never have any issues buying champs I want to have.

$17~ MWO: Sorta regret this one because they really, REALLY overprice their shop.

Lesson learned: Wait for a F2P mmo to become established in its market before spending more $20 or so bucks on it.

High Skill Cap? I think your confusing wow with something else. XD

Its still not a bad game, granted my appeal to it is far more to nostalgia then anything else.  I do feel blizzards terrible direction with the game has caused far more harm then good, though at the very least its core elements are entertaining.

I'd have to disagree on WoW being the 'only one' worth paying for. FF14 was a pretty solid game for $15 (considering it seems like its on sale for that much quite often) or games like Rift or SWTOR being quite good in their own ways. Lets be honest and admit that a lot of the draw to WoW is from its nostalgia. Without that, its pretty much "just another MMO" and a heavy casual one on that which isn't exactly all that 'fun' when stuff gets trounced on so easily.  Not a terrible MMO (even if terrible choices were made on it) but one that really if you take away its advantage of being content packed (which you can claim about EQ1 and 2 easily) you won't find much of anything to make it stand out., just a relatively dated game.

Edit: Oh, and account server options that cost wise would be yelled at for being far too expensive for a F2P GAME. Yeah, $25 server transfers is horrible that blizzards gets away with it with a sub fee, and the mounts for prices most people would yell at  in other MMos (Such as Neverwinter) its silly theres no outrage over it.

I wanted to spend money and time in Wushu as well. It had a mood about it. The convoluted currency system, locked gathering and a few random PK's out of nowhere and I knew I wouldn't have staying power.
