Oh and one more thing you P2P whiners I don't agree with. You pay 60$ upfront for "the box" and you get a "free month" (LOL). There it is, you've payed the development cost FOR YOU. You've purchased the game, you own it, its yours ........ but then you miss a payment....and you are locked out of service ... and your game becomes as good as the garbage you throw everyday . Demands whats yours, demand with your money and care less how a large corporation makes its money.
Operating costs, maintenance, customer service, internet hosting, accounting, development, project management, testing, implementation... all that just happens magically with no cost associated?
I'd love to be able to get the same value out of $15 as what some people portray it to be worth. I'd spend it on a new Porsche to drive around on my yacht that I dry dock on my moon. Every month. Seriously, where does one get a hold of these mystical money things?
OMG you spent 15$ on an MMO, you fool! LOL there are Free games everywhere to play. F2P IS THE FUTURE OF ALL GAMES. And don't tell me your going to spend ANOTHER 15 DOLLARS IN 30 DAYS. Are you nuts are you CRAZY!
I get everything in life for free, my games, my health care, mom and dad pay for the house I live in, they buy my cloths and feed me. Why would anyone pay for anything in this life if you can find someone else to pay for it for you!!
Nothing in life is worth paying for me just read through these forums and apply the same F2P logic to real life and you'll see you've been doing it wrong all these years.
Me Ill just be sitting here waiting for ESO and Wildstar to go F2P. Even though I really want to play them I shouldn't have to pay for them. Just remember, computer games have no value they are made by elf's at night while we all sleep.
From 2013 until now I've spent $30+ on MMO's and now extra $15 on guess what...the same MMO that took those $30.
So, why I decided to resub back to WOW....the decade old MMORPG?
#1 I like the high skill cap, fast paced, fluid + gear/stats based combat
#2 PvP season 15 starts this Tuesday. Good time to gear up for it. Hopefully this time with some of the peeps I met from September-October 2013 I can push above 2k+ rating (last time, that was the main issue I quit, I couldn't find 2k+ players that were matching my class/comp)
#3 I have no hype/interest in anything coming in 2014. It's too early to know about Wildstar and there are some mixed predictions.
#4 If I'm spending/being milked on a MMORPG I'll do it on the one that deserves the $ and Blizzard does for making WOW such a great overall MMO in the last decade.
#5 WOW is a great, social MMORPG. Either I choose to raid or arena or RBG I communicate with players. Having a mic is like a must for all WOW players these days...
#6 There are no major exploits, cheats, just botting issues, which don't significantly impact what the endgame is about. It is also competitive and with the recent cross realm, real ID and OQ addon, players can play together from all servers...So it will never feel dead/empty for anyone.
So yea, I gave my 2 cents here. Hopefully you all found your MMORPG home for this year. I do hope in future Blizzard makes at least it's PvE/raiding more competitive/appealing for the players...
Okay good. But why did you spent 15stones Now and not when Warlords of Draenor will be released? Everything in WoW is currently stagnant and waiting for this greater update.
Okay good. But why did you spent 15stones Now and not when Warlords of Draenor will be released? Everything in WoW is currently stagnant and waiting for this greater update.
Anyway, enjoy.
Well, if he hasn't been playing all this time, then he's got a boatload of content waiting for him. It may be stagnant if you've done it all, but if you haven't you'll be pretty happy.
Originally posted by jircris I will probably be flamed for this but meh. WoW has its unique aspects but IMO it is not worth the 15 a month. The combat is actually a lot more sluggish then some of the F2P MMOs i have played where you can use all your skills one after another with no break in between unless you run out of mana. And the community seemed a bit....rude for a lack of a better word. If you like WoW more power too you i personally have enjoyed games like tera online untill they started focusing more on the cash shop >> and also games such as SWTOR or even if you want to go old school Ultima online.
I think you don't understand what sluggish combat means. WoW has the smoothest combat out there. Tell me the F2P MMO you are talking about because you mention SWTOR which is one of the kings of sluggish combat and while Tera isn't sluggish it isn't exactly smooth either.
Will you be this excited if you play for a few days, remember why you quit and feel like you just dumped your $15? That is what tends to happen when I resub to a sub based games.

No need to go all sarcastic and whiny. Morhaime has said that eventually WoW will go F2P. When it reaches the end of of its development cycle. That'll be about the time they release their next big-hitter so yeah, in a way F2P is the future whether you like it or not.
ArenaNet have found the way. Every other subscription MMO just looks as a cash grab, feels like a cash grab and plays like a freaking cash grab THEN IT IS a cash grab. Without those 15$ each month the 60$ you pay upfront mean absolutely nothing. You don't own anything.
Sure you can go to a private server, to enjoy YOUR game, but then the big corporations get sad and sue the private server hosters into oblivion . So in a way your 60$ for "the box" ... which is a digital download anyway .... is basically a donation to a large corporation ...
Way to go sheeple
I see, its all about the "evil" corporations trying to "stick" it to the little guy. Wow, do people still fall back on this argument. Try running even a small business and you will see the world from a different shade then they teach you in school. Try running a medium sized to large corporation and you will just chuckle whenever you see the " big corporations" are just stealing money from people just trying to provide a service or product.
Remember kids, software has no real value because you can just "copy" it for free and no one gets hurt.
I only pay for what I like. And guess what, WOW and ESO are not on that list. And WOW would never be on any of my lists even if it went f2p and ESO would probably be a passing fun of around 2-3 months.
And comparing gaming to health insurance is showing your arrogance and stupidity. I guess you pay for love as well, hence you need good health insurance to rid you of the gifts your paid love has left for you in your lower parts.
Fanboi attacks are getting more often lately, I guess a launch or two is about to fail miserably.
No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.
I've spent around £2800(ish) on sub fees alone since 2000. That's hardly anything if I went to the cinema once a week since 2000 I'd have spent around £7000.
From 2013 until now I've spent $30+ on MMO's and now extra $15 on guess what...the same MMO that took those $30.

I have to disagree with #5. One of my biggest reasons why I quit WoW is because Blizzard has removed the social aspect almost entirely from the game by today. The only thing where you need communication of any sort is the arena. If you dont do arena you dont need mic or even text-chat. You have the choise to communicate with others, but it's not neccesary outside arena. When I started WoW it felt like I had to communicate, often, to get anything outside questing done.
It's not a bad game in my opinion, it's just made too easy, too casual game, where everything happens almost on autopilot these days. It makes the game extremely easy to approach and propably one of the biggest reasons why so many people flock to it still, but also a reason for people who seek more immersion or complexity to stay away from the game.
I was certain that Warlords of Draenor would be a flop with yet another x-pac recycling the same old raids and arena seasons with nothing new except the skins on your gear and dungeons, but I must admit the garrison housing system feels something actually new and fresh, which is rare for WoW expansions. It might even be enough for me to reactivate my account for 1 month to reminisce my times in WoW, click one of my toons to 90 and build my garrison
I resubscribed for the werewolf thing they had awhile back. Could not get into the panda thingy.

I think WoW is going to be my "on break from school" MMORPG. I'll play it a month or two at a time because it is fun to play a month or two at a time. Cost wise, even with the expansions, it's pretty economical compared to other, new games too.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Here's a suggestion to game companies. Make games that are awesome and way better than F2P games and games that people won't mind playing for years and investing in and you will have no problem getting people to pay subs. I don't even think WoW is a great game but you have to give them credit for making something that a lot of people are actually willing to pay monthly for.
Oh and one more thing you P2P whiners I don't agree with. You pay 60$ upfront for "the box" and you get a "free month" (LOL). There it is, you've payed the development cost FOR YOU. Are you implying that ArenaNET are not paying for the things you listed above on 2 datacenters? (One based in NA and one based in EU). Because I have to admit, I just bought Gw2 and everything else I obtain through in-game gold. Sure I'm trading post sucker, big deal... xD
P.S: Another great example is The Secret World. Still playing it from time to time. I was lucky enough to get it on Steam sale haven't lost another cent on it. The game is still marvelous And neither devs or community are not complaining for what you lsited above

The fact that other publishers can maintain stable profit proves that subscription is NOT A MUST.
And since when people started caring about corporation's income? It was simple ... go to GameStop, get the next 60$ heavy-hitter and have fun. Are you feeling regret nowadays when you play a F2P/B2P game? Do you feel bad yourself for the company that chose this path?
I love when people say "I couldnt find players as good as me to push to xx rating" Guess what man its probably you if you cant reach a rating, if your good enough you would have found the players or made it work but hey GL to you I pitty the fools who team up with you and get blamed for every loss cause clearly its there fault regardless what happens.
Ive hit glad in 6 diff seasons with diff players / classes each time you either got it or you dont sorry bud.
i know people that have dished out 10.000+ $ on One free to play game alone.
That is why sub models are dying. One person Willing to dish out that amount of cash is worth far more than 300 people Subbing for $15 a month!
FTP has way bigger potential to pull lots of money from those Willing and Able to spend, and it will dominate the industry!
Not really.
If you ask me personally I would tell you that I like to own what I'm paying for. I don't get that feeling with P2P. Yes 15$ is not much, i make it in less than an hour, but I just don't like donating 60$ for a digital download and then keep paying to play. Just no. I play 3 or 4 MMOs at the same time, giving one more time over the others, constantly rotating, also playing battlefield 3 from time to time in my limited time so yeah ... I love the idea of using what I'm paying for however and whenever I like. This is why I will NOT subscribe for a cheap cash grab MMO, like TESO for example, or FFXIV which is really just more of the same BUT with a subscription fee <o>
Comments
I don't like WoW since Vanilla.......But all newer games are crap and not even mmos anymore.
FF14 was crap, ESO don't look any better.....And I have a feeling as fun as Wildstar looks its gonna be another auto group game and not an mmo.
Hay, have lots of fun and enjoy yourself
