In light of recent events, Has Zenimax improved PR for ESO?

Collison Detection Added

Starter Zones now Optional

I feel that the recent changes to ESO have dramatically improved public relations with the curernt playerbase in closed beta. My question is, to outside observers,do you believe Zenimax has improved  the general public's confidence in ESO?

Those two issues are more preference than actual issues that affect sales and the overall perception of the game.  ZOS still hasn't commented on the faction unlock that most people are so pissed about.  I've been in beta and have played siege games with collision detection, so I know it's an improvement.  I've also gotten a bit bored having to replay the same starter areas with different characters.  But those things are only slight improvements, and only because I have beta experience and experience in other games with similar features.  The outsider that doesn't probably won't really blink an eye at this news.

The only thing that impresses me is that they could pull this off so quickly. It means that they did a better job with their development than SWTOR.

If their turn around for implementing major changes is fast, I'll play the game.

1, Collision detection added for npcs

2, since this hasn't, as I can see, come from Zenimax themselves, is it really a "plus" for "p.r."?

If there was damage to their PR, it was caused in part by the several reviews by popular bloggers who got to level 7 or so then felt that was enough for them to give a verdict on the whole game.

Subsequently a couple have since had the honesty to come out and acknowledge that they had reviewed with insufficient knowledge and gameplay experience.

But of course, anyone only reading their initial reviews without these follow ups would just see the negative impressions.

If they fix the ugly animations as well then confidence will reach very high lvls but i doubt that.

    It's a slippery slope.

In this case, probably good, but how many times have developers listened to vocal minorities and ended up screwing up something good, creating a bigger problem, or completely changing the balance in a bad way?

You need a comment from ZOS on why factions are unlocked?  Unable to figure it out for yourself?

I agree it has improved and I want ESO to exceed all expectations and be a great success.

    BUT...

The 800 pound gorilla that has now entered the room are the mods that unbalance gameplay.

Don't get me wrong as I know some will and I am all in favor of mods that increase functionality and enhance a users experience

    BUT...

The mods that show "other users" info to people will heavily damage the games long-term potential. I am specifically referring to mods used in pvp. Mods that show another users info about armor, skills and abilities realtime in combat are just cheating. Videos showing these mods tell you when to block, interrupt and counter an opponent in pvp and place a target box around someone akin to tab targetting in other games.

I am hopeful this issue is addressed by Zenimax so customers can make an intelligent buying decision.

I would love to pre-order but I cannot do this until this information is made available to me.

Covering this would improve the PR scene greatly for me and many other potential customers.

don't know about PR but i think they have proven that they do listen to their fans and act quickly upon it.

i just hope they don't change too much just because people complain about every little thing.

a lot of it is blown out of proportion because a lot of people complain just for the sake of complaining.

the faction lock is a perfect example. people complained about faction lock so they unlock it and now people complain because they unlocked it lol

I put improved slightly, I need to see for myself how much of a difference the collision makes, and the starter islands weren't a real problem for me, there was still more exploration content than most mmos.

Hopefully we get into a beta this weekend.

True, they also added some blood animations and the hit pause that some other games use.  Even if the stress test proves bad for collision, at least they have already put in 2 other factors to give more impact in melee.  But we will see this weekend.  Also I did AD so my starter island was fantastic. image

No, actually they are not cheating in the least, all many of the add-on's are doing, is giving information that is available in the game anyhow, they are just changing the presentation of it. The game shows a cone where an AoE will go, you can visually see when you need to block, those are all things already in the game. Even the health bars, the info is there, all people are doing in writing addon's, is to change that to a numerical display so you can see a percentage.

In all honesty, I know some folks don't like addon's, but a game like Warcraft thrived with them, games like Warhammer were enhanced by them, the fact that Zenimax has already worked with some of the addon writers, and allowed their work into beta is pretty encouraging.

If the use of addon's is a "no buy" for you, gut feeling is you'll find yourself in a slim market, as companies are embracing the idea that the fanbase can enhance, and even fix things that the developer may not have gotten "right".

Seems like people love this game now, funny since everyone was in hater mode not to long ago.
