SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Today marks the commencement of the localized Russian ArcheAge open beta. As part of the preparation for the big event, XLGames' Jake Song was in Moscow and our friends at MMOZG.net were allowed time with him for a rapid-fire ten minute interview. We have been given permission to post the English translation of the interview here at MMORPG.com.

I dont think that interviewer really asked any uncomfortable questions like why did AA goes F2P in Korea, or why Russia or Japan will not patch the game to its current version that has upset a lot of players overseas..I was hoping for some kind of explanation on that.

This interview makes Jake Song look like an idiot.

Start should be Themepark, endgame should be Sandbox, so lets polish the start first, since players never, in no game ever, spent most of their time in endgame...

Not only this point, but the whole interview doesn't leave any hope for this game with this team and this designer.

Why put it in italics when that isn't what was said?  People spend most of their time at endgame, which is why endgame will be sandbox.

    Actually said (in the interview):

MMOZG.net: So what is the perfect balance between sandbox and theme park elements?

Jake Song: We feel that the ideal situation is like this: on the early stage of the game there should be theme park content, and in the later stage there should be sandbox. Future developments will be aimed at such balance as well. So I think the balance is about 50/50.

I agree with Jake Song.  Themepark early on helps set the mood for later sandbox stories and adventures.  It also assists for future roleplay backgrounds and stories to share.

It sounds like you just hate the game, with "the interview doesn't leave any hope for this game".  If  you feel there is no hope, then there is no further need to promote negativity.  Move on to another game, and let sandbox / sandpark peps enjoy their AAA game, that may only come once or twice in a lifetime.

I found the interview to be informative and uplifting.  ...  Although the part about maybe this year was daunting.  Trion did say they would kick off a Beta countdown at their March conventions.

You don't really need to read the entire interview. This would do as a title, as a subject, as a contents ...

Well... (long pause) We may launch it with Trion this year. (pause) I hope.

It seems he had some good laughs during this interview and so do I ... :)

Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy?
Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!

The long pause from Mr Song made me worry a little. I am not expecting the US version at all this year now. We will see I guess.

Skipping due to time taken to localize, indicates lack of ability in publisher and localization team telling me it will be a crappy port from asia yet again for us ignorant western masses.

No one else get angry they dumb asian games down for western audiences like they think we are all neanderthals or something. Discrimination if you ask me not business.

You're right Geebus, you are discriminating.

This is pretty remarkable how long it is taking to get this to NA.  At what point is this game too dated to even worry about releasing it here?

The visuals are really astonishing, it also runs smooth on maximum settings with a good gaming PC. The day-night cycle adds to the high quality graphics.

Try the Russian OBT and look for yourself.

It's not discrimination when it's the Western publishers "dumbing it down". Though I don't agree they dumb it down anyways. They just try to make it less Grindy and appeal to a western market. In my opinion it rarely works though. The grind is like 90% of the game in these eastern MMOs they love that stuff. Remove the grind and you don't have much left but pretty graphics.

hopefully song and company have the leeway to differentiate their version of AE from the korean version which has recently taken some steps in the wrng direction IMHO

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.
