It was also posted on Reddit that quest markers over NPC's heads and in the world map can be toggled off.

Well, whad dya know - guess one shouldn't whine too much while a game is in beta, things can still happen. Nice to see.

It's only "caving to pressure" if it happens after launch.  Done during the testing process, it is simply part of the reason for having that process, to use player feedback to craft a better product.

I think I may want to subscribe now... That starter prison place was so boring to me that I had to force myself to play through it before.

no way! those last two rooms where you free the prophet and the room where you take the portal are filled with urns and chests. How else am I gonna get fully stocked on provision mats, recipes, racial tomes and 30+ lock picks?

    Exactly my thoughts lol

I found going through all those chests and urns so boring that I made my 9 year old do it while I went downstairs to make myself a sandwich.

Point is, the loot is nice, the action of doing it being the only reason to stay in the Prison Zone is not.

Interesting decision. I wonder how skipping those will impact player immersion.

It would have just been so much easier not to have designed crappy starting zones to begin with... but it's nice to see they are considering feedback.

Love or Hate ESO, Zenimax listens to their players.

You may be all anti-ESO but if its something people are concerned about they'll try to make it happen.

    1st person view

    Starter Islands

    Large scale PvE

    Faction Lock

All things people didn't like and Zenimax listened to at least some degree.

Imagine the game a year from now if the sub holds up.

That's why they belong in MOBA's not MMORPG's.

    LOL. Definitely agree.

There will be tiered level jumps. Level 10 for people who want PvP like, RIGHT NOW, and level 50 for people who want to be able to explore the whole game as they do in Skyrim as they started playing. Oh, and perhaps another one, level 50++ for people who want everything already maxed out.

As cool as it is that they did this, the very first thing I'm doing when I get out of Coldharbour is heading to the starter island and getting my soul shards.  Then I'm off to the open world.

The loot is very nice when you want those lockpicks to get you going especially and the mats for different things that you find there.  It was actually exciting the first time I went through and did it but I can see it getting boring after that for some.  I still will be doing it because ther rewards are WELL worth it for the couple of minutes it takes to do it though.

I like the starter islands so... I'm going to play them... but... you want to start the game at level 50 - dude, go ahead man... I dont care one single bit because it doesnt interfere one bit with my experience.

I dont really know exactly why are guys so mad or shocked or disappointed and why this should be a negative thing. Look... if a player decides to buy the game and then decides to skip the WHOLE game... well.. what else can be said? I think its great zeni is giving the opportunity to skip content...

For instance... well known games like BF4 or COD Ghosts dont have an option right after install that says "see only the movie sequences here and watch yourself win - next watch end game credits". Well now that would be an awesome feature.

Well if they are going to have pvp, you have to have collision detection otherwise pvp is laughable at best.  Besides combat is really a joke when a npc runs right through you.  So mark your concerns as lame.

If they made npc's can't run thro you

then i will laugh at you sending a ticket to report a player who block some dungeon door for you

I'm glad they are getting rid of the starter islands (as mandatory) I didn't get a huge amount of time to play the Beta during the beta weekend, but what I did get to play (prison and starter island) pretty much turned me of buying the game, it all just felt so linear and so much hand holding. To be honest my first thought was "Oh god, this is the SWTOR release all over again" and I was fooled once there already.

It wasn't until I read from other people that its only the starter area that is like that, and once you get out of there the game really opens up. I can't have been the only person who tried it out, played for an hour or two and decided the game wasn't for them.

Granted, I will most likely try out the game at some point, but that all important first impression did some damage. Especially with them keeping the NDA up for so long, all I really had to go on was hype (from articles and forums such as this one) and my own first impression.

    I won't...

I'll be heading to the starter islands to do all the quests and explore to get into the lore/story.  As I do that I will grab the Skyshards.  You often find in MMO's there's some very nice stuff hidden about in starter area's that can give your character a real boost before the open world.

By the time I get to the open world I'll have some good points spent and will have a more developed character then someone who rushed/skipped.  Plus I'll understand whats happening in the world which is important to me..

That and collision with mobs are good decisions, they will improve the game a lot.

The starter areas were very boring, or at least the Ebonheart and Daggerfall ones were, I didn't see the Dominion one. Though they were also useful for gathering crafting mats.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

I think the fix for the "starter" prison is *something* like this:

Brief video  introduction to Tamriel, the different places, the different factions,  how players were once alive, but  now they are a soul, trapped in a prison.... how they need to escape back to Tamriel....and ...now..the jail break!

The "fix" the the starter zones might be something like....

After prison break... should be prophet giving the option to help others with an impending disaster/situation   (stay in the starter zone) or not help, go to the big city directly.

BTW everyone has figured out they need lockpicks, etc. from the starting zone (and honestly looting in the prision is fun)...last time I went in with a new char EVERY chests, etc was EMPTY/looted.  Need to have a solution to this like:  'personal' loot or 'personal' instance or loot cap, or fast respawn of loot or....?? Just make sure there is crazy fun amounts of loot with lockpicks.
