Ive got a bad feeling about this

all this ebaying n crap over in-game items is just getting worst, especially as john smedley and other companies have started taking advantage of it to make further money from us. It may lead us into crazy path, in china awhile ago someone got murdered over a in-game sword worth a few hundred pounds.

how nuts is that? is that the direction they should be going? we dont want more gold farmers & criminals getting into our games to make profits. If things do keep going in this direction i will probably leave mmorpgs as they're not fun if its all about making real life money and getting power over other people because im "richer". i think we're mixing the virutal worlds with the real world too much now... oh and that guy who bought a in-game island for like 100,000 dollars was it? how sad is that!?

gone are the days of UO when we played for fun & for the people we knew and hung out with at the bank. Now its all about who has the most money in real life or in-game to benefit going either way.

this type of system is already in use in many asian (korean games). You play for free but can choose to paly for extra 'perks' like faster xp gain or special spells or potions.

this is a good move by SOE because it legitimizes the trade that is already happening.

want to legalize soft drugs? this is what soe is doing. they are saying, 'we can't stop people from selling accounts so let's make it legal and take a cut of the action.'

this is going to allow me to play eq2 for free.

if you have lots of money in real life and you want to buy that uber armor then fine. go ahead. but i'm going to quest and play my way to level 60 (now 70 with the expansion.)

good move soe. let all the haters whine.

Thats a load of crap that they cant stop it.

Make the account info unchangeable, so people that sold the account could simply reclaim it. After enough morons lost money it would be end of problem.

Make the account payment info unchangeable, the billing address for the credit card must match the account info. For game cards, see the first suggestion.

With todays logging technology, how hard would it be to search accounts for level 1 characters holding 10,000,000 plat and log it every time they transfer 1,000,000 gold to another character.

How many people do you know that have 100,000,000 currency on noob characters on every server in the game?

They know damn well who is doing the trading it just isnt in their interest to stop it.

i agree with the one who said, "we can't help it, so people with a lot of money, let them buy it", it's true though, can't do anything about it, even though it really sounds ethically incorrect. Draining money from people for something that could easily be deleted by set-up, or by error. And the other aspect, i wonder how many people actually think about the fact that it is virtually, so yes, it does exist forever, in a clean "no-error-scenario", but what's the value of that certain item you bought with your bare money in real life?
i would still prefer to trade virtual with virtual. same thing with those leveling-up "companies", that's like, playing a pure grind mmorpg, and pay a leveling-up companie to do it for you, those are times to think "is mankind stupid, or i am just so intelligent?"

I have a tree, a tree that's in my garde, but my garden's too small for the tree, so the tree is in my house, that means i don't have a house .... who am i anyway?

I personaly really agree with what SOE did with the station exchange. If someone want to do this kind of stuff he now has a place for it. And while Im sure it doesnt stop all of it, It at the least stops some of it coming on to the other servers. People are more likely to go to a place where its leagal.

I am very much in favour of Station Exchange. It is my opinion that if people are willing to spend money over virtual property, they should have the right to. However, since it does create an imbalance by using an out-of-game resource for an in-game benefit (much like cheating in a board game), it is better to keep seperate servers so that players select the rule set they prefer (whether such transactions are allowed or not).

One aspect you should consider is the fact that you cannot effectively restrict such transactions, as it's hard to track and ban buyers and sellers of virtual property or restrict such auctions in so many such web services. It is therefore better if you simply allow it to happen on seperate servers and let the players who do not wish such transactions to play on another.

    Currently playing:
    * City of Heroes: Deggial, Assault Rifle/Devices Blaster. Server: Defiant.
    * City of Villains: Snakeroot, Plant/Thorns Dominator. Server: Defiant.
