I love faction conflict. Because you have to be level 10 to get into to AvA.....I had to endure 10 pve levels.I really don't like being forced to pve to get to content I want to try.
My feelings about the first 10 levels was not the same as my feelings about the game after I experienced AvA.
ESO REALLY should make AvA available at level 1...or worst case level 5.
Splitting hairs. Bethseda is a subsidiary of Zenimax; AreaNet is a subsidiary of NCSoft. Now if someone were to say that Titanfall was made by EA or Microsoft that would be different as Respawn is an independent studio.
As far as my original opinion goes: no.
I still believe that ESO is launching somewhat early - and events of late have only confirmed that.
That the launch itself will be "solid enough" (above comment not withstanding).
That it will sell low millions but not tens of millions.
That most people will leave within 7 months (30 days + 6 months) - even if Zenimax never mention numbers.
Well I was excited but I believe the developers embracing full modifications will end up destroying the long term viability.
Have you seen some of these pvp mods yet? I know it is still in beta and the devs might block a lot of these, but if not mods will smother and run off half of their possible playerbase.
There has been a shitstorm debate on the official forums so you would think the developers would weigh in and quell the fears and at least announce the scope of these mods but we haven't heard a peep about it. They just have their forum moderators instantly lock these discussions and ban people that try to post new threads about it.
I asked in a post in a very benign way a simple question. "Will my character info be private or public?"
Of course we know that you can target me and see my name, level possibly and my health.

There currently is a mod seen in pvp videos that show your level, class, health, mana pool, stamina pool, what buffs and debuffs you have on with timers, if you have drank a poition and its effects, if you are a vamp or werewolf, what you are casting or are ready to cast and when to block and interrupt skills and spells.
Having played several months of beta, my opinion on this game is this:
The PvE core is strong, the exploration and shard system makes exploring fun and interesting. I love the random locked chests like any other ES game. It feels like an ES RPG molded into MMO form. It's pretty dang fun too.
The AvA is way better than GW2 WvW, which I have been playing for over a year now. It's not even a comparison really. Think of WvW as a tiny, malformed version of AvA and subtract the fun for bashing a wall with catapults for hours on end. AvA does right a lot of things WvW did wrong.
The combat system is very fluid and fun as well. Sometimes, it still seems a little buggy, but I'm sure they will work it out in the end.
For it being a console release as well, the game is surprisingly in depth with character customization. Usually console games can't capture even half the depth of their PC brothers, but this game does surprisingly well for what it has.
The only thing I really don't care for is the crafting system, but I have never been much of a crafter in any game, so my experience with it beyond "huh, that's annoying" is non existant.
Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV Have played: You name it If you mention rose tinted glasses, you better be referring to Mitch Hedberg.
I wasn't excited at all when ESO was announced. All of the coverage I read and videos I watched made it look pretty generic in a Rift/SWTOR kind of way. A more or less solid game that doesn't offer anything new and undoubtedly cost gazillions to make.
My opinion didn't change after I leveled my first character to around 4 or 5 in the last beta weekend. Keeping in mind that the trick to enjoying a MMO is experimenting with classes and builds, I tried 2 more classes until I found a fun one. Not only did I find a class build I really enjoyed, I realized there tons of other possible builds that could just as fun or funner.
So knowing that and knowing how much replayability is important in MMOs, I was totally hooked and converted. I'm not gonna pre-order but I'll buy it and start playing as soon as I can after launch.
I was pretty uninterested in the game. Like many others, I just thought it was going to be bland and generic. The general opinion seemed to confirm this, so when I went to try the beta, I expected very little. The first beta made me realize it wasn't what I was I thought but I only gave it a little bit of my time. My second beta, however, hooked me. Preordered the Imperial Edition shortly after.
So, yeah, I've done a complete 180 on this game, and that seems to be a pretty common experience. It seems like ESO has somewhat of a reverse hype problem. Instead of people getting hyped up too much and crashing hard when their expectations are not met, people expect very little from ESO and then find out it has a great deal to offer.
I'm a care-bear and proud of it. Forced PvP and weak trade (chat spam trade) has put me right off.
One for you hard core PvP guys.
Don't begrudge you that at all, it's about time you got a AAA game.
Might as well go full loot really as most PvE players won't play this game for long anyway and you PvP guys love your full loot. Not sure going half measures is helping anyone.
If anything PvE players won't play it as it's PvP focussed, and hardcode PvP players might look elsewhere for that full fat full loot experience.
Not sure that middle market is big enough for it to survive. Hope it is
Look I like TES games. I like that bethesda has never been afraid to make stuff that is genuine rather than perfect. I like that they try to do skill systems and have you able to do your own thing.
But having said that, the TES games as released are extremely far from perfect and have all sort of RPG idiosyncrasies that people tolerate because Bethesda tries to give you liberty over smoothness.
I honestly have no idea how successful the TES games would be without the HUGE mod community. Skyrim is literally 10 times better now than it was released.
I had no expectations for TESO other than a certain look and feel. It isn't just that a TES style advancement system wouldn't work for an MMORPG, it is that the TES advancement system has always had fundamental flaws but due to the nature of the design of the games they went with it anyway because the good outweighed the bad.
There area ton of just silly things people would do in Oblivion or Morrowind or Skyrim to train up a particular skill, such as shooting Shadowmane over and over and over with a destruction spell.
The question was never really about MMORPGs per se. The TES games have flaws, they are still great games. But how would those flaws get addressed especially in the light of the fact that mods by the community won't fix many of them?
That was, back a year or more ago, a very open question that no one who was honest with themselves really could answer.
I played the beta since Sept 2013, and I hated the game, I hated the game so much I wrote about how this game sucks on the beta forum and what they should do to fix the game ,I wrote so much bad reviews I thought I would not get another beta invite again . But I did get another invite and the last beta it just clicked to me when I hit level 12 (which took me 13hours of playing). This game is not like most MMO, its not about reaching to level 50 and getting the best armor which I was rushing. the whole time skipping story and areas on the map. This MMo is about investing your time into your toon and finding/ becoming who you want to be. At first I thought the PVP would be like GW2 a train of people fighting each other who ever wins had the most numbers,no skill just moving along to next fight. This game reminds me of DAOC RvR but yet a little different. This game is more deep into the world and your toon. I say play Beta with a open mind, know that its very slow but once, you hit level 10.. you will love the game or hate it. You wont be making 10 toons you will be most likely make 2 because you'll be investing so much into just one.
P.S. I'm at work so I dont have time to spell check. forgive :0
When I first heard about ESO I was really excited. When the first bit of info started to leak I felt really down. I think it was how it was presented like Cyrodiil being a PvP zone. I am more of a PvE person but love huge PvP battles I hate ganking and arena style PvP. After getting into beta I got excited again. I started to feel let down again when I noticed the WoW addon crowd zerg the game /puke. I would not mind a few UI addons but not a techno disco number flash cluster fuck and the addons that give out to much info I see in alot of videos people put out. I really liked the default UI. I know I do not have to use addons I do not like. I am at a excited state again lots of good PvP videos floating around and PvE is looking pretty solid to me.
I'm not sure Rift is a great example, since it's F2P and has a decent cash-shop. Trion is on the ball to keep customers, and Rift has been around for years as proof, if there is any doubt.
ESO is P2P with a cash-shop, that is perceived (by myself and others) to expand, given how Zenimax has shown that people who pay more, get more, in-game. I know I've had enough of non-gamer corporations trying to suck as much money as possible in the shortest amount of time.
If Zenimax did physical items in their CE entirely, then there would be no issue. But alas, not the case. Even given ESO, with a rich dynamic for customization (via ES), Zenimax could have stuck with that. Also, alas, no.
Well you asked the question, and in the past year, my opinion of ESO has diminished some.
Zenimax could have a good game in 1-2 years, but they really need to get it together as far as PR goes. Fans will buy the game (and quit soon after), new people on the fence will stay on the fence because the game is empty, come Fall / Winter.
IN4B - "your option!" .. yeah my opinon is my response. Blogs are always opinionated, unless a link is provided to source concrete info.
ESO does not have a cash shop so stop spreading misinformation.
First wildstar. went to their site to check out game play videos, couldnt get past 5 minuets of watching them..kiddy, cartoon graphics..so sick of cartoon graphics in MMO's. havent been back to Wildstar since.
Got my first beta invite to ESO back in November..was really looking forward to this game since i heard about it. been a huge TES fan since the very fist game in 94. I have every game i the series. Well, got into the beta and i was like really?? this is it? not impressed at all. but i kept an open mind knowing it was in beta and still a good 6 months till release. Got my 2nd Invite to beta in january, and i was hooked and pre ordered the game because of the beta..the changes they made in the beta was like night and day in just 2 months..the graphics were gorgeous set on ultra/high settings, found myself several times just stopping and looking at the world and the amount of detail it had. From the questing mechanics, the crafting (LOVE the crafting), the lore, the customization, the combat, the exploration all felt like elder scrolls to me. This isnt your typical MMO, if you just like to rush through to end game and try to race everyone to level cap, you will not enjoy this game..it isnt made for that. its made for taking your time and exploring the world and everything around you, you dont have to be on rails and just follow the quests. you can just open your map and go for an empty area and you will find tons to do and find. For example, I took off towards and empty part of my map and found "unique" crafting tables hidden in a cave where you can craft "named" armor. I found locked chests, hidden resources for crafting, NPC's ran up to me for help and went on quests that werent listed on the map. in the last beta i was able to get my character to lvl13 and grouped up for a dungeon and took out a dark anchor, very fun and very different from most MMO's i have played.
Some people have complained about the beginning starting zones, some have complained about the combat and lack of collision detection, well, Zenimax has listened. The starting zones will now be optional. once you finished breaking out of cold harbor, you will be starting off in your alliances home city with the option to go to the starting islands. they have also added collision detection for NPC's for combat. The only thing i can see being a problem with that is pets getting in the way in combat, but im sure they will fix that. You have to be impressed with Zenimax listening to their player base and making changes in game this close to the launch of the game, not many Developers would have done that. I am getting this game and looking forward to my 5 days early access.

That was, back a year or more ago, a very open question that no one who was honest with themselves really could answer.
I think there is a really fundamental difference that you're leaving out.
All the previous ES games were single player 1-time-buy games (unless you wanted DLCs later on). Single player games, especially from huge companies, rarely get any support after they are released. Most of these massive games get more than 90% of their sales within the first month or two of when the game is released. In big game design companies, when (single player) games get released almost all the designers are immediately moved to other projects.
ESO is much, much different. It's an online service that hundreds of thousands of people will be paying monthly for. Release of an MMO is just the beginning for support of the game...whereas release of a single-player is essentially the end of support.
The modding communities were huge in filling that gap in support from Bethesda for the single-player ES games.
But look at what Zenimax has already done with this game. They're listening to the community and making major changes based on feedback. If you go to the ZOS website they have a bunch of job openings for programmers/artists/designers/managers to be part of the ESO team. This is the polar opposite of how things work with single-player games.
When TESO was confirmed, i though "Bethesda does not make MMO's, this is gonna be generic."
I did not really care if it was i still thought that any game were your in Tamriel with friends would be cool.
Well after following if for some time,
and playing a couple of Beta weekends i can say that this game is not just
"a mmo in TES universe." Its more than that. Its....special. By special i mean not generic. You know, like Rift.
Opinions? Anyone else?
Rift was generic by comparison. In fact apart of rifts the rest of game mechanics were taken from other titles, mostly WoW and EQ.
TESO on the other hand in fact can't be called generic however still it takes from other MMORPG games and incorporates features and mechanics into TES universe. I.e. bam fights from TERA, RvR pretty much the way it exists in DAoC and a few others. The difference tho is that most of those features are not straight copy & paste + many of them are not taken from mainstream. The thing that they are doing well is that they have some vision of this game and they introduce features that fit this vision instead of grabbing bunch of features just because they worked great in some other game.
And on topic. I have to say that after participating in beta I my feelings about the game were changing rapidly eventually evolving into stable "yes" version. Despite I am TES fan (played every other title so far) I was looking forward for Cyrodiil mostly. I watched some leaked videos but then thought about them - meh. And after playing some beta? It is really the first MMO since LotRO / vanilla WoW that I do really think it would be an awful idea to rush through the content just to reach level cap. I think that says something good about TESO.
I'm a care-bear and proud of it. Forced PvP and weak trade (chat spam trade) has put me right off.

Ok, you sound like you are some guy that'd love to play in Cyrodiil but is simply afraid. Often such ppl see what they are afraid in worse colours than it really is. Do really all pvp players like full loot? Doubt that most of them does.
In other words it appears that you are not going to play the game because it does not have auction house... I am simply not buying that chat spam thing as every MMORPG has this problem (unless it's deserted).
The only thing I wanted from ESO was to be able to play an ES-like game with my friends. Unfortunately, after playing the last beta weekend, I have come away with the feeling of a GENERIC MMO with a somewhat similar ES look. Mechanics of the game are no different then say WoW or Rift or any other similar game. I am saying it is not a well constructed game. I am just saying it is NOT an ES game in feel to me. With that said, why would I wish to play ANOTHER generic MMO just like about any other MMO out there today. Yes, I was going to pre-order but not now. I was invited to this week's beta event but I am saying I don't really care to be involved at this point. For those that are still excited about the game, good luck to you.
When I first heard about ESO, I couldn't have been less interested in the concept. I LOVE Daggerfall, Morrowind and Skyrim and i didn't even hate Oblivion. I just could not picture an ES mmorpg working, I figured we'd be trading a massive amount of freedom and immersion for a more linear and watered down ES... complete with a chatbox full of Chuck Norris jokes. I figured I was better off walking away and never looking back at this one.
I recently heard some news through the grapevine and damned if it didn't lead me to watching some vids and reading up on the game. the NDA had just fell and I had a mountain to read.
Scored a beta key for this weekend, thanks mmorpg.com! and suddenly I find myself excited. The things i am seeing and hearing are all things that I like. The ability to shut off quest icons... no auction house... rvrvr in a central map location... day/night cycles, weather, tons of emotes, seems pretty big map and if the rvr is even half as good as DAoC then i need no other end game.
We'll see how I feel on Monday... still prepared for a major let down, but so far I'm surprised with what I have seen!
I heard nothing but horrible reviews about this game, but nobody could give me details as to why the game was so bad.
I just assumed this game was going to be total crap.
I've played in 1 weekend beta so far and I really had a blast. After doing research on the game and what it's about, I'm gone from not caring whatsoever about this game, to being extremely excited to play it.
Did a complete 180.
This is exactly what happened with me.
Heard that this was the worst game ever. Was bored one weekend and downloaded the beta client. I ended up pleasantly surprised.
First wildstar. went to their site to check out game play videos, couldnt get past 5 minuets of watching them..kiddy, cartoon graphics..so sick of cartoon graphics in MMO's. havent been back to Wildstar since.

This is what I liked. Even though a lot of people complaint that there is silence on their part, they delivered, and it's the most important thing. Actions speak louder than words IMO.
Anyways, with the recent changes they've made, I think they are targeting a long term audience, rather than a short one. Changing the starting point because of a lot of negative feedback or a lot of people surrendering in a few hours (IE PCLamer.com), they ramped up the story progression to cater this people. So they could see the end level and not surrender to playing it in a few hours.

first beta was boring, glitchy and lack luster, i chose the ebonheart pact and it sucks, i quit testing after i reached level 5
then i reroll another character in the aldmeri dominion, it was so much more interesting and i enjoy the leveling process and hit lv10, then the Pvp won me over.
I wasn't planning to pre-order at all and i changed my opinion after i spent some time in Cyrodill./
This is what sort of happened to me in my Beta experience - except it was only one weekend, not two.
At any rate, I started with the Ebonheart pact, and gave it like... 10 minutes before I realized I wasn't having fun. I wonder how many others felt like this. I also wonder how many of those players also spent a lot of time playing Skyrim.
I know for myself - I didn't necessarily think Ebonheart was boring. I mean... I did... but I didn't. I'll explain:
I'm not making a judgement of how good or bad it is. I'm making a judgement that I put a lot of hours into Skyrim, and starting out in Ebonheart made me feel like I was playing Skyrim all over again. This... isn't really a "bad" thing. On the one hand, it's a testament to how true they kept to the source material. On the other hand... I'm totally done with that area of the game right now lol. Basically, I don't think it sucked... I just needed a different change of scenery... some other realm I hadn't spent 1,000 hours already exploring.
I wonder how many others might fall into that category.

Well for one, I just wish people would stop confusing publishers and developers.
Bethesda is NOT the developer of TESO, Zenimax is... Bethesda inc. is the publisher.
NCsoft is NOT the developer of Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet is... NCsoft is the publisher.
I love faction conflict. Because you have to be level 10 to get into to AvA.....I had to endure 10 pve levels.I really don't like being forced to pve to get to content I want to try.

Do you want to pvp with someone using this mod?
Life IS Feudal
Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV

If you mention rose tinted glasses, you better be referring to Mitch Hedberg.

Perfectly said and exactly how I feel.
Yeah - I was going to buy it - now I'm not.

P.S. I'm at work so I dont have time to spell check. forgive :0
Interesting story.
I agree if I was like you I'd stay playing WoW ....for the price of this game you can buy 3 level 90 characters in Wow
You're giving Care Bears everywhere a bad name.
“Microtransactions? In a single player role-playing game? Are you nuts?”

Let's party like it is 1863!
Not yet, but maybe coming soon... maybe not.
This is exactly what happened with me.
Heard that this was the worst game ever. Was bored one weekend and downloaded the beta client. I ended up pleasantly surprised.
Can't wait for launch.

Seriously dude. Talk for urself instead of all PVE players, you don't now anything.
Im a non PVP player looking forward to eso. PVE replayability, and adventure zones.
with 1 content patch a month, im sure it will keep me interested for years, and no im not an ES fan.
i hate those games. generally i hate solo games in complete.
The non AH doest come to me as a problem. U dont need to be PVPing to visit guild keep AH's etc. U can
just transport to it.
But seriously. talk for urself.
