Storm's First Look

Two Hours of Twitch Gameplay

How to play the game is below

I was going to do this later in the week. But because I had to go and open my mouth saying so. I got spammed to do it faster. Well here it is Arche Age my first look. My first impression of it is this reminds me of Rift. And when I got a glimpse of the art. I then said Rift and Guild Wars 2 smashed together. Then I did the quests and kind of laughed. Because the quests were better then I expected.

Now don't get me wrong it's the standard go get this kill that wtc. But with fun side bar things to do. Like as you will see in the video one quest is the scale a rope up a castle. So you can do a surprise attack. Another is use a Hang Glider to fly back to town. My favorite however is this. Hands down it was raising my own horse from a baby. The class system is Rift's Soul system in the disguise.

They not fooling me with all those class name combinations. But that doesn't mean it's not an good system. Just not fooling me renaming it in a different game. It's so similar I'm remaking a famous build in this game. That I originally made in Rift. Yep it's just that equal.

I give the games music a thumbs up. Some of it had me listening intensely. The graphics seem a little on the dull side. Maybe it was my settings or it's supposed to be dark and kinda bleh. Even when it's sunny out you'll see what I mean. For the most part the games ok. Not mind blowingly omg can't wait to US release. But it's ok and fun. I won't be doing a normal series on the game.

I'll be playing it as is on Twitch. You can see all the footage there after this video. SSG's Twitch For More Arche Age

Had a go myself last night... well after being stuck in the queue for over 3 hours anyway haha :)

Character creation was pretty good, I dont realyl spend hours doing a character myself so I fonud the amonut of different optinos just fine :)

I did not notice any issues with the graphics as you mentioned, and I can see your video on youtube at the moment does not play. My settings are maxed out, not sure what you are running at.

From what I have read the first 20 levels are your basic themepark style quest game go from point to point doing different quests. Only got to level 6 myself but everything seems to work fine nothing really outstanding but then again I have not seen anything outstanding in a themepark game for a very long time.

I wont really judge the game until i get into the so called sandbox part of the world as that is the part I am interested in the most.

Oh yeah and that english patch you linked is no longer available, they made him take it down.. still its out there on the net now and works pretty well.

Well downloading it first and then sitting in the queue i guess it worked out to about 4 hours.. but yeah queues are silly at the moment but I guess they did not expect to have the entire world trying to connect to the servers LOL..

I guess  they are stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment.. I mean if they buy in more servers to cater for all the western players they will be wasting a ton of cash as those players will vanish as soon as Trion manage to release AA.

So they might go as far as blocking anyone from outside of russia if they can. Will have to wait and see I guess.

The server I was on Naima was laggy in general but I think it was having issues as they have brought it down today to try and resolve it.

Between the bad lag spikes they game was running perfect from the UK.

After I shrank the screen down to 720p. I rarely had any lag problems. I'm east coast in the states seems pretty stable. I only had a problem in one of the main castle cities. Pretty much because like 300 players was just sitting in for no reason. Reminded me of Ironforge days.

I can read cyrillic but don't really understand russian that well, so here's a google translate:

"to downloading and installing the game further 9310MB free on disk C:"

How much space do you have on C:? Game requires up to 40 GB!

I'm going to stream the game some time today. Windows update made me PC restart last night while I was asleep. So now I'm stuck behind that omega queue again....

I added the twitch game play. I ended up doing it later on. Due to the way the game works it took awhile to tweak settings. And figure out how to stream with out lagging. Link is under the first look.

The server queue was 2 to 3 hours long but i was happyly surprised that i could leave my computer to do something else and when i came back a few hours later my waiting time was over and it kept me connected, so i could create my character and get to play three to four hours.

It was a bit laggy at times but it's what you should expect from connecting to a russian server from a far western europe country, i did really, enjoy my time, it remembered me good vibes / feelings from my first beta in lineage 2, this game has nice graphics and it plays well, i didn't felt the "urge" to go here or there and do everything quest npc  asked me to do, i begun to explore the map, look at the beautyfull landscape, and this game has wonderfull foliage / herbs / trees / bushes / hills and mountains, impressed and amazed by the first time i've been using a glider, yada yada, so far, so good, i can't really judge the combat, animations are pretty nice and it feel reactive, but i can't say so much, as it was clearly laggy and command input were giving some latency problems / millisecs of reactions or even an entire second sometimes, so it would be unfair from me to judge the combat right now as i couldn't see it in full reactivity / without latency making so i hit a skill and i don't have a direct "interaction"... But it seemed more than okay.

It felt free enough, i mean, the world seems to be completely open from what i've seen, i "suffered" no loading screens, and i thought that if i was going to the end of the road section between two different maps i would have a loading screen or something of the like at some point, but it was really like Lineage 2, looks like the world is in one huge "piece" and you can travel from everywhere at foot or by boat or using many means of transportation in the game (loving the motorized "carts" between little towns / camps etc, i hope there are some boats you can take too ) I almost regret that there is a few "portals" / tp gates in the game.

I was having fun, and i got nostalgic at some graphic elements, some of the armors reminding me the first ones i could get in L2.

Then it striked me like a needle in my brain, when all of a sudden i wanted to gather ressources... I... can't describe how disappointed i was by seeing the awfull face of the "work" point system, as i had a very little amount to begin with (45 / 50 if i remember correctly) allowing you to mine only 9 or 10 iron deposits (each of them cost you up to 5 or 6 points to mine one time...)

I love to craft in games... And after hitting that "wall", i started to get informations here and there, on the internet, then it felt like a huuuuge paywall system breaking not only my immersion but the impression of the game overall, i was filled with the universe of the game from the starting area it was also allowing you to go or do whatever you want until that come out and fuck everything up.

I'm disappointed by this very restrictive system, but i guess i'll wait for more informations about the international / european servers and system before deciding if it's worth it, or try it a month or two when it releases here... As for now it doesn't impeach me to continue playing but it surely got a stab in my overall impression of the game and i was enjoying it at a very low / discovering pace, it's just felt like "why the fuck does you have to show your ugly face now as i was enjoying what i see and what i play, fuck !"

I like this game, but i read that even when you pay, you have a maximum of 5000 work points and you get like, 5 work point every 10 or 20 minutes, i don't remember correctly, but i won't pay a premium service for "still" being limited in how i want to play if i only want to gather ressources and sell them or craft, i hardly feel like i'm "free" of doing whatever i want even by subscribing to the game, you still have these "expended" restrictions...

    Why ?

It's 5 points every minute and it keeps adding them even if offline. Not sure what you mean by restrictions, they are A LOT of points.

It's more like a cap, to hinder your progression. Like phylosophy token cap from FFXIV, etc. It's also common in most P2P mmorpg, so contents won't be dried up quickly.

5 points is enough only to mine 1 mining node.

This whole Labour Point system is a Subscription trap. I read somewhere that to reach a max level in 1 craft you will need to spend all of your Labour Points for 3 month just on this craft.

I believe they call it Korean-Grind.

  • maccarthur2004maccarthur2004 Member UncommonPosts: 511

I think Labor Points originally was meant to be a simulator of work capacity (the fatigue of the worker), because it's unrealistic a single character can work all the time doing millions of things in a single day. Labor Points was also a way to make the "landless" characters have job oportunities, because since the farm owners cant work alone, they would need to recruit other people to do the work (buying LP in tthe auction).

However, the big amount of LP provided by premium subscription will allow the character to solo everything related to work, what damages this player interdependence. And without speak of the absurd P2W that it represents.
