I've only tried about 4 MMORPG's as of 2002.. Star Wars Galaxies 2003-2004 (pre everything), Lineage 2 OPEN BETA, World of Warcraft (OPEN BETA), and recently Everquest 2 2005-2006. Now, theres only 3 out of the 4 that I've been completly WOWED by. Lineage II looks pretty nice, and it performs on my 2year old computer awesome at med-high settings (current video card: Nvidia 5600 256mb, current RAM: 2x256mb "need to upgrade"). If I would be comparing TOTAL GRAPHIC DETAILS (players, cities, landscapes, plants, and water) then I would 99.9% have to give it to Everquest II... Star Wars Galaxies was graphically intense but the character model's weren't that impressive and it doesn't help matters that it would slow down a ton when I would go to a busy city/catina.
Which one do you think is the better looking/better performing MMORPG that I have listed in 4 games played?

Most SOE games models look like Claymation with everyone having monotone skin and perfect undamaged equipment. So I wouldn't count on any of those games for nice graphics, since they would just chug your system.
World of Warcraft and Lineage 2 have put alot more effort into texturing and it shows with the non-claymation look. Although Lineage 2's environments are a little sparse and blocky, and World of Warcraft is a little cartoony.
Maybe, I'm just wierd but I just don't like the GRAPHIC DETAILS in WoW.. Too me, Everquest II's water graphics are enough to make it the best looking MMORPG out there, too bad it requires a awesome computer to run on HIGH..
Sorry, I forgot to mention Guild Wars... I played the BETA for that too!! Decided on EQII instead, and I'm happy with my decision.
I used to bash EQ2 like there was no tomorrow but after running it on my new computer (+4400mhz 7800gt) i DEFINITELY have to say eq2. Theres no other game like it, the graphics are absolutely stunning.

If you have the system for it nothing looks better then EQ2 on the market.
Like pirrg found out(and he used to be one of the chief bashers of EQ2 graphics) its all down to the system.
It has been a major setback for EQ2 against WoW because of the extremely high specs but it amazing to look at if you can crank the graphics even to medium.
Sorry cleffy but you need to see the game on a better system(i know u gonna say u using a quad sli or something like that but be honest).
I have ran the game on 2 different system one with last year technology other with 2002 tech (high end stuff) and it looks totally different.
I based my opinion on the graphics on Eye-candy shown to the public. I hold my opinion that the graphics were rushed, and there was not enough attention put into the models details. The skins of every humanoid type character is monotone which makes thier skin look like clay. The only one's that arent like this are the more animal-like characters/monsters.
The models are excessively higher poly then they need to be to hide the fact they didnt try to get away with stuff with proper texturing. They also don't take advantage of what the engine can do. They aren't adding in very many specular maps to show the sheen on a face, or bump maps to show the coarseness of the skin. Thier armor has absolutely no dirt or grim added to it. And the hair is simply a few dark lines brushed through yet another flat color.
I use a Radeon 9200, it isn't much but it is enough to play most games to show better character graphics then EQ2's eye-candy. Risk your life's characters are done well and low poly, same with FFXI and the upcoming Granado Espada. I know some of you think those games are too anime, but when it comes down to it they match more of reality then the characters developed for EQ2.
I will give them that thier environments look good. I clap my hands to thier environment artists and programmers to make that possible, the only thing to be said about the environments is that they are sometimes too bare. But thier characters just fall short, and it looks like fresh artists with only 1 year experience with 3d modeling did them.
