Let me preface this by saying that this is NOT intended to be a F2P vs Subscription debate. I am simply curious as to how much the average F2P player spends in comparison to a typical Sub ($15/mo).
When I played F2P games, I tend to spend a lot of money. Depending on the game - I have spent upwards of $100/month. I know this is more than anyone should ever spend, but I like apparently seem to like the 'fluff' and other advantages they sell such as XP boosts, etc.
How much do you spend?
Comments
I'm assuming that is $35 total and not per month, correct? If so, that's not bad at all!
In Lord Of The Rings Online I've spend 0$. This is because I had the lifetime membership and now get free point to spend, so I just have them up.
In Rift I've also spend 0$. I am around level 34 and have had no reason too so far. Though I can be temped here. I've seen stuff in the $20 range I like, it's fluff stuff. But I wouldn't be spending 20$ a month
I actually don't know much about LotRO - How much is a lifetime membership?
It was sold twice, both times for $199 I think (and around $220 here in the Eu). Sadly I skipped that...
LotRO is f2p since almost 40 months (wow... quite a time), for a lifer it results $5 per month, and it's diminishing by every month passing.
edit: I can't answer because I don't count and summarise my spending in games, it'd be a huge task in LotrO's case since it went f2p I bought the expansions (on sale, if possible), bought some points, and stayed subbed for a few months, alltogether, I dunno, probably $120-$130. But I was a vip, so I wasn't restricted much by the implemented f2p barriers.
They are, that's why the option is less and less utilized in other games nowadays
LotRO has a fairly big problem finance-wise due to the huge number of lifers, since they are not simply Vip's forever, they also get 500TP (~$5) every month, which is
1) knocks out the previous calculation of 200/40 $5 per month, making them playing for really free, and
2) with that 6000TP ($60) per year they can purchase the one expansion released per year, with TPs even left for purchasing some additional fluff, a cool mount or anything. So basically that one $199 purchase is giving them the game and the expansions and everything else, forever, in the future as well.
edit 3) add to that the former Eu/Codies players... to them Turbine is giving the whole game for free, because they gave 200 bucks to an another company (Codies) 4 years ago
Damn, I still to this day angry at myself not buying the lifer option... /me stupid.
DARK AND LIGHT I GOVERN BOTH
Man.. I don't even want to know how much money i've spent in League of Legends. Just thought about that. Scary x.x
So it seems that based on player responses - the money the average player spends is quite a bit less than a typical sub. That is interesting. Perhaps I just need to be more disciplined when it comes to my wallet lol.
Yea thats total. Definately got my money's worth
Unless you count B2P games as F2P, I've spent $0. I have purchased games that later went F2P though.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
0,00$ for consumables, cosmetic items, equipment, pets, mounts, etc. etc.
If the game offers to permanently unlock content/races/classes then I have spend some money, but only once. In the long run I spend much fewer than with a traditional sub.
I got a gift card for GW2 for $15 I think that i spent on bank slots.
I didn't spend a dime on LoL
I spent $3 on hearthstone
I spent $20 on PoE for stash space
I never found a reason to spend a penny on PS2
I subbed for 1 month to SWTOR to get the perks but then quit before the month was over because the game was so cruddy~.
Those are probably the FTP games I've played the most that had a cash shop.
