The Secret World: An End to the Mystery Box Flap & Tokyo Delayed

The Secret World's Joel Bylos has penned this month's Producer's Letter. In it, he discusses the addition of Mystery Boxes to the game's item shop. Bylos spends time discussing what these boxes are and are not, in essence assuring players they are not "lockboxes" and contain nothing that can't be earned or found in the game world. In addition, Bylos informs players that Tokyo will be divided into two sections and will be delayed by a few weeks from its original projected release date.

The second is that even with the division of the patch, Tokyo is still going to be later than we hoped by a few weeks. The reason is simply quality. In terms of visual quality – Tokyo would be “okay” by our original release date. But that isn’t what we are aiming for. Tokyo needs to be, just like all the other locations in The Secret World, better than okay. It needs to ooze (somewhat literally) personality and quality.

Issue #9 is a large content patch precisely because it frontloads a lot of what is coming in Issue #10 and #11. The playfield of Tokyo, for example, needs to be fully built before Issue #9, but that is an overhead we will not have for Issue #10. The same applies to many of the monsters, animations and systems like AEGIS. I do expect Issue #10 and Issue #11 to take less time than Issue #9.

    iam ok with tokyo delayed.

He explained cinematics need to get done 'right'! and TSW is all about quality story telling.  many great things todo in TSW-so there shouldnt be a rush to it.

all these new mmo's betas and releases in the coming months making too much hype -so i wouldnt want TSW to eclipse on its release date!

it seems funcom does not want  to dissapoint its loyal fans-so take your time guys! get it 'right'-well be waiting!

If I wasn't still using a toaster oven level computer, I'd be playing this. Miss having roommates with awesome computers.

    I'm a MUDder. I play MUDs.

Joel's return, streaming videos into the game, Tokyo, additional mission pack - yay, good news.

(removing a bit of pvp yay too, imo :) )

Mystery boxes, still disagree. The mechanics (world drop and must purchase keys vs. purchasing the box directly) are irrelevant, same for the value - lockboxes in every game promising at least the "value" of the purchase, it was one of the first technics to avoid the label of gambling, since "you can't lose, you always get at least your money back" (only there's a pretty wide range when defining the value of pixels in a game). True, in TSW there are no lockbox-only items (at least yet), I admit that's a plus. But it has stuff on the loot table you can only get from the game with grinding, so you can "buy" your shortcut with the boxes.

However, that doesn't affect the core of it: with Mystery boxes folks can get random stuff for a fix priced (real money) purchase, and that's screaming lockbox gamble all over the place :)

"The Mystery Boxes have been popular in the Item Shop" - if I may guess, folks spent their expiring bonus points onto them. I wrote the same after it got into the game, boxes will probably wipe the bonus point balance clean. Not a big surprise, if someone got the Issues, the wheel, and the favourite cosmetics, there's not much in the store for purchase. I guess I'm not the only one who scratched the head: "whatteF* should I buy now?" With the bonus point system those points are gone anyways after six months...

I played it with a AMD 5200+ and easily, your PC is worse than mine?

Matter of fact i can play every single mmorpg on the market right now.

TSW is not a high poly game, most of it's structures are just fake back drops,so i would disagree with  TSW on  the QUALITY statement.

If i see a city ,i want ALL the buildings in that city to have doors and insides, especially in a game like TSW because imo that is it's best selling point not the game play.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

No need to feel sorry for anyone. They aren't paying a monthly fee to play so they can just play something else until Tokyo is released.
