[Column] ArcheAge: Russian Beta & Trion Talks

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Since my article two weeks ago discussing the issues revolving around the 1.0 patch a few things have happened. ArcheAge in Russia entered their open beta on February 22nd allowing for even more people to get their hands on the game. The launch of this version has led to several English communities forming in a few different servers with a popular one being Nova. In the process players are of course dealing with large queues as long as a few hours to get into a server. To reduce the influx of players on so few servers since launch, XLGAMES has added a few new servers (Russian).

Having a blast playing the game in Russia with the english patch (for all german-speakers there is a WAY better language patch made by the german ArcheAge community, with over 5000 players the biggest foreign community in Russia!)

English patch, great gameplay, very good ping for EU players. ^^

I guess Trion has lost the majority of their EU customers to Russia!

While I am happy to see MMORPG.com keep the discussions going in regards to AA amongst the vacuum of information but how many ways can they say "soon" when it comes to this title? The time has come for meaty details not vague ones. How many players are they going to loose to RU due to lack of information and any dates given whatsoever?

It is comedy to me that Trion feels so compelled at silence while people are playing it around the world and in many cases are more knowledgeable about AA than Trion themselves. When everything is a secret..... nothing is.....

Looking forward to GDC then.  March 17-21.

So if they are demoing the western translated version, they must either be done or very, very close to it.  Doing a 3 language translation in one shot was a bit much, when all the first round needed was English =D

Using the english patch is a ban-able offense and while nobody has been banned yet for using it that I know of, XLgames has started to have it taken down and I wouldn't be surprised if they start banning people closer to when the US/EU version launches.

    It's a really fun game though. :D

Indeed, using the english patch is a ban-able offense. But there is no word about the german one (maybe because Trion doesn´t care about them ^^)

Stamina restrictions sucks, ugly armors and weapons, delay of spells make the combats boring and pay to win, just another generic mmo mmorpg , really disappointing.

No, only thing  you need to change the region for is to save the settings for the options (here a guide, http://archeagesource.com/topic/1260-user-settings-and-key-binding-now-saved-on-archeage/ ).

Just make a Mail.ru account and dowload the game.

Why do people say that this game is too late?

lol. What game do we have to look forward to that will be anything like AA? EQ Next? Have fun waiting for that another 3 years.

    Russian Beta + Trion Talks

Too bad that this is the only thing Trion does about AA and by their history the only thing they were ever good at.

    Talking and PR.

If they want ArcheAge to be successful in the West, they're going to have to do away with the cash shop.  P2W is even worse for Sandboxes than it is for Themeparks.

This game fell off my radar a long time ago...

It will not appear again until I can test/play a full English version.  By that time I'll prob be sat in a puddle of my own piss in an old folks home !

I think the game still peeks the interest of a lot of players, although most have very little hope that the game will be any good.

Someone mentioned the game shop. I think that the game shop in Rift works fairly well and if they can translate that into AA, removing the aspects of p2w, it might have a chance of making them some money.

But as far as innovation goes, I havent heard that this game is anything but a "grinder". A good one but nothing really new.

I find the very long waiting time very puzzling. How can a mere translation take this long? Someone else must have been needing a real overhaul as well.

If Trion doesn't adopt a lot of the post release 1.0 features this game still stands a chance in the Western market. It has still taken too long to Westernize and I probably won't be giving it a play anymore, as ESO will take up my time.

in the past few weeks I have lost almost all faith that anything will be done about 1.0 before its too late.

They have not delayed its release and going by their history, any changes put it wont be removed or fixed for 3+ months. By then, the game will see a ton of players leave in Japan and right now, that's the place that's keeping the game afloat. Worse yet, they are not realsing any details at all to the players about what they are "hearing" and what they actually consider to be worth listening to.

"People who tell you you’re awesome are useless. No, dangerous.

They are worse than useless because you want to believe them. They will defend you against critiques that are valid. They will seduce you into believing you are done learning, or into thinking that your work is better than it actually is." ~Raph Koster

Perhaps, but between various places like here and ArcheageSource, I think they are forced to see what is going on, or at least value places of idea exchanges.  They've given MMORPG.com interviews before, so they aren't completely oblivious.  If someone published an interview on you, for instance, I'm sure curiosity would keep ya seeing what others are saying, even if you never comment back.  Of course, comments may not even be on an official capacity, something to consider.

As for delaying the release, it's hard when people keep saying they are losing interest, or the game is off their radar, etc, because it's taking like, way to long, like really!  While we know these are just all empty threats, it does send a message to Trion to "Hurry Up!", which may involve at least portions of 1.0, who knows.

I've never heard AA called a grinder.  At least not til after 1.0.  Pre-1.0 (aka russian) its about the same to level as vanilla wow was on a pvp server.
