Didn't experience lag once with my graphics set to high/ultra for RvR

SatariousSatarious Member UncommonPosts: 1,073

I had all of my graphics on high/ultra (over the beta weekend) and didn't experience lag once in RvR even though I got into some pretty massive fights at keeps.  I heard a lot of people complaining about it in chat, but I never had any lag problems myself.  Which got me to thinking that perhaps there was some bigger network issue that was affecting the eastern part of the country or maybe it was just the people in Europe (since they are connecting at a pretty long distance to the American server).

Overall, I think Zenimax did an excellent job optimizing this game for large RvR fights.  Most other MMOs suffer pretty badly in lag when it comes to large pvp fights.

What most people call "lag" is actually just their GPU grinding to a halt.

    You make me like charity

    Could be your

    network card

    antiquated system

    internet provider

    modem

    router

    hard drive

    PSU

    CPU

    RAM

    MOBO

    GPU

    a virus

    OS

    drivers

    settings

And any mix there after. Did I get them all?

Could most of these people who are complaining have sub par systems?

    Weird thread.

At the weekend, I went into an 'exceptionally large' PvP encounter at a keep - ours had been taken, so I ran for the postern door.

I ran up to it (ahead of a zerg that had forgotten to guard it), reached the door and pressed the button to enter.

~10 seconds later (still standing outside the door) I was killed.  I selected 'respawn immediately' and an empty keep...

~20 seconds later my corpse is teleported inside the door, and I can see someone running past - they noticed my corpse and started reviving me... shortly after that I got a loading screen and respawned at the keep I'd chosen about a minute previously...

When I respawned at that keep, I went to the door to exit, and nothing happened.  ~10 seconds later I pressed it again, shortly afterwards I was teleported outside the keep.  I started to run away, and was teleported back inside the keep o_O.

Summary: during the last beta, the critical lag in PvP was server-side, a better video card will improve FPS, but it won't help that type of lag.

With regards to server-side lag, did I read that ZeniMax are changing their hosting provider?

Lag has nothing to do with your graphics settings.

For me, mostly cyrodil was lag free, however from time to time there was lag of a good 5 seconds. I wasnt the only one experiencing it - others were mentioning it in chat. It was basically unplayable at times.

    r.i.p. c!

The graphics side was definitely well optimised, but there was definitely server side lag / latency issues in large fights at some times.  Most of the time it ran flawlessly, but then there would be 5-10 minute lag issues as the server creaked under the pressure.

But that is the point of a stress test.  Hopefully they will add more infrastructure to prepare.

It was server lag and probably for the European players.

I was playing from EU and while my fps were 35+ in zergs I had ~10 sec delay on skills.

Half the people here don't know what lag is. Lag has nothing to do with your hardware it's either the server or your network.

Since lag has absolutely nothing to do with your video settings, this does not surprise me.

Plot twist: The latest beta was a Stress Test on NA servers (with EU players), it was also the biggest test yet so it was normal to experience server-wide lag/latency!

Actually there was two kinds of cyrodiil PVP instances:

Some that were for unwilling test participants, which upon entering the zone, and joining a group, would crash and nonstop crash,  upon logging in and then trying to exit was about approxmently 50 log ins on that character.

Then there was the well made Cyrodiil PVP instances that ran completely flawless.

So really, you just had to exit the test ones and find yourself a flawless one.

Lag isn't about your rig settings - lag in PvP came entirely from the server.

I'm EU and was experiencing both CPU spikes and Lag,

after the Beta finished I found a fix for the CPU spike

    C:Documents/ElderScrollsOnline/Live/UserSettings.txt

    need to change

    SET RequestedNumThreads "-1"

    to

    SET RequestedNumThreads "0"

ESO are aware of the CPU spikes  and a fix is in V018  so hopefully next time It will just be latency unless they open the EU server

    what does the

    SET RequestedNumThreads

    command do?

Now if only they can guarantee that logging in to the game will not give you full access to other peoples characters and inventory things should be golden?

Considering how you were berating GW2 for having security issues at launch the other day I am surprised you have not levelled the same critiscism at Zeni??
