Last week we got the chance to sit down with Richard Garriott and go over the team’s plans for Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues. Richard gave us some great insight into where the game is going and also some of the amazing support he has received from the community.

Thank you for the nice write up! As a backer of the game, someone who runs a fan site, and a members of Poet's Circle it was a pleasure to see this posted!
SotA is often getting poor press because of the openess of the company in showing the world early development, including things for pre-alpha. Something most companies wouldn't begin to consider. Unfortunately as a result people don't realize how impressive things are for such an early stage. I personally feel a new benchmark in game design is being established.
I just wish this game wasn't so heavily monetized. The cost for housing is insane! And it's an upfront cost, with backers having the best property size, detail, and capabilities.
I certainly loved Richard Garriotts Ultima series. Played all the Apple ][e games then to IBM compatibles.
The alpha video's are depressing because I know, I won't have those features as a simple buyer of the game. I needed to be a founder and spend 1k+ $.
Very cool though that MMORPG.com staff got to sit down with Richard. Next time, take 'em to a pub and get 'em drunk, then get the real inside scoop! =D
I'm watching this game for now, though it seems like something for rich 80's - 90's kids, now grown up.

Recognize the voice? Yep sounds like Penny Arcade's Extra Credits.
Totally looking forward to this game, so much that I've backed the game as much as I can. Which means giving up a few niceties over the next few months. But that just shows how much I believe in this game. At this point it would cost one $45 to pledge in, you want to own a piece of land and a house $165. That's a far cry from $1k$. Anything else that they sell can be made in game, difference being the bought toll doesn't wear out. Housing too can be accomplished in game, granted it will be limited but it will be there. And as each episode opens up, more land.
Those that cry that some things cost forget that this is how the game is being sponsored/built. There is no corporate backing, every dollar so far is invested by those that believe this dream will bear fruit for a number of years. Hence investing in my gaming future on a game that may change how future games are built.
Oh and I'm not an 80's or 90's kid. I'm 60 and work my tail off. Gaming has been my hobby since boards and dice.
Nice job dev team, looking forward to a long relationship
I am glad to see MMORPG taking an interest in Shroud of the Avatar and getting some useful as well as accurate information out! Thank you for that Garrett.
I haven't looked forward to a game this much in a decade, I can't wait. Despite what some may(and will despite fact) say, I echo Silverfoot on this, the price point into SotA is great!
Along the lines of player contributions, don't forget to check out all of the great music that PoetsCircle has been working on with some very nice results!

Listened to some music there, fell in love with many of those tunes...
As a backer, its good to see it getting some good covergae.
As a player, I feel like Garriott is taking the piss along with everyone else on the team. All theyve got is $$$ in their eyes. The price for housing alone is absolutely disgusting.
All theyre doing is watering down and completely monetisinga genre they helped to create/shape. So much irony.
