Please tell me that this game will cater to the "hardcore" raiding types with "wow" style raiding?
As I was soooo looking forward to Elder scrolls Online until I heard there will be no raiding( apart from guild wars 2 style world bosses-which they "think" is rading which "raiders" knows it isnt) and tend to focus more on the pvp crowd.
I already own guild wars 2 and such so i wont be buiying elder scrolls online due to the lack of endgame content( which they have openly said they wont have or cater for)
So will this be differant and give us raiders our fix?
Any info on that would be hugely appreciated- as love sci fi type games- especially the retro carton style ones- add 10/15/25 man type raiding( like wow raids-not these "zergfest" world bosses ppl trying to pass off in guild wars 2 and Elders scrolls online as "raiding" content) to the list and you will 1000% have a loyal customer here.

Yes I was around since EU launch wow untill last month:P I remeber when burning crusade was launched- I was there when Kazzak paid stormwind city a visit- the front entrance was littered with corpses and noone could kill kazzak thanks to all the low levels dying to his "shadow bolt" skill and regening his HP :P
but yeah wow has/had some truly epic world bosses- which unfortunetly no other mmo has really managed to get ( they all turned into zergfest types.
I am hoping this game will have proper raid style dungeons similaer to wow style raids.
WS has both 20 and 40 man raiding along with hard mode dungeons. The bosses available in the raids will change weekly to some degree, and supposedly so too will some of their mechanics.
You should be excited. One of the big selling points if not the biggest of Wildstar is a return to difficulty and challenge. This especially includes raiding. Jeremey Gaffney has said a number of times that raids will be tuned for the 1% not for casuals. What this means is the 40 man raids will be for hardcore guilds. They have said the 20 mans will be more casual and not tuned as high in difficulty. But Carbine's philosophy is based around challenge and difficulty. They believe that by having difficult hard to obtain goals that everyone benefits including those that will never try that particular raid. Gaffney has said when a games raids are too easy not only do the hardcore guilds leave but so do the casuals. The casuals leave for two reasons one because of the perception of easy and second because they follow the hardcore. It is the hardcore that play the game and make up the communities and who are always on. When those players leave the rest follow like lemmings over the cliff.
So yes Wildstar is very big on appealing to hardcore guilds. They have spent over 50% of their resources the last year soley on endgame as that is their focus. The devs who are making Wildstar were many of the core Devs who developed and made WoW. WoW when shifted their philosophy these Devs left in 2005 to form Carbine to make a hardcore raiding game which eventually developed into Wildstar. The die hard fans if who have been following the game for the last 7 years or so were mostly initially excited about the games raiding focus.
Oh and i agree with you other games not having real raiding. There is zerg events in many games where you zerg big bosses but there are few games left with progression raiding. All that is left that has progression raiding is EQ, EQ2, and Rift. Pretty slim pickings. Wildstar is really the only alternative for raiding guilds left. Well until Pantheon comes out and that ever releasing is quite debateable.
This makes me happy. If Wildstar does turn out to be a true progression game similar to EQ, I will call it home for a long time to come. Sadly, my hopes and dreams have been crushed nearly a dozen times on past MMOs, so my hopes arent too high
Wildstar is what you are looking for, its endgame is 20 and 40 man raid focused and it is scifi cartoony.
However your assertions about ESO are incorrect, there will be 12 man instanced raids in ESO whose information is expected to be released this week and is being tested by a small group of raiding guilds picked to test it.
I guess it's good for some people that they're making end game catered to hardcore raiders, but doesn't seem very wise from a business point of view.
I want to see how long it takes them before they start to bleed subs due to most players being shunned from end game raids and cave in and start to nerf things or make some form of raiding for not so hardcore raiders.
On the contrary, hardcore raiders have not had a game to go to in what, 10 years? If they do it right, it could be home to all of those players.
I know some people think we don't exist anymore, but we do. We are lurking in the shadows, waiting.
Just look at the reception that Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 are getting. While not MMORPGs, they show that some people actually enjoy their games to be challenging.
Not every gamer is casual, and we are starting to get antsy.
I really don't think there are enough hardcore raiders alone to sustain an MMO. Not saying that all hardcore raiders come from wow but near the end of vanilla they had around 8mil players... 1% is 80k. Guessing that wildstar won't be quite as popular as wow that number could be considerably less for potential wildstar hardcore raiders.
wildstar will have many more players than just hardcore raiders at first, but leaving nothing for the rest of the playerbase over the long run makes it seem they will find themselves with a lack of subs.
I guess if carbine is fine with these low numbers then that's fine more power to their hardcore raiders, but something tells me they won't be.
Just guessing how things will play out. Bored players don't tend to stick around very long, and with limited options for most of the player base at end game I think they will become pretty bored.
Just because the raiding is hardcore, doesn't mean that the entire game will be. There are plenty of things to keep non-hardcore players busy besides raiding. WoW started the trend of forcing raiding down everyones throats even if you didn't necessarily want to partake in that portion of the game.
In games like EQ it was an option that some players chose to partake in at varying levels. It doesn't even have to be as linear as it is in games like WoW. A modest raid guild could do just find raiding for Epic weapons and such in EQ, even if they couldn't necessarily beat the most recent progress raids.
I love Dark Souls and have ordered Dark Souls 2 but i feel end game raiding is the worst thing ever added to mmos. In the mmos I have played since 99 there have been a grand total of 3 guilds in which I have found the players remember that raiding is not life and remember people do have jobs and kids. Maybe it is not the raids themselves that are horrid it could be have just have a track record of running into the worst people in all of creation.
Idk, non raiding or non mass pvp endgame doesn't seem like endgame to me, seeing as I'm doing those things before endgame. I'm no wildstar expert but as far as I can tell the other "endgame" options are adventures and group dungeons, and battle grounds?
I'll wait and see how it plays out, just curious to see. Don't have anything invested in the game, just doesn't seem like their raiding design makes sense in this generation of games.
Well luckily for you, there are about 100 times the amount of MMORPGs that focus on collecting puppies, kitties, and soloing compared to the actual mmorpgs that require you to be social and invest a little bit of time and effort into your hobby.

I have a job and three young kids who need attention and a good relationship with my spouse.
I love Demon's Souls and games like that.
Raiding is not necessarily for Demon's Souls people though. It is more for people who like handling the logistics of large groups of people. Even the gameplay of raids is not really gameplay related but logistics related.
Also, I have better things to do with my time than **** around with raids. I love fighting games, and am perfectly able to succeed at anything that the best raid-bot can succeed at, but have better uses for my time.
Raid people consider themselves 1337 even though they are not remotely. MMOs are not about skill.
If you want to be judged by your dexterity and ability to enter things quickly and react to situations, play fighting games. If you want to be judged for your strategy, play chess or war games.
All MMOs reawrd is time invested and number of friends. This is very obvious in MMOs that have a gear-based system, like Wildstar. At least GW1 didn't have a gear based system, and was skill related. If gear is paramount, well then....skill is obviously not paramount...

For me theres just something really awesome about coordinating two dozen+ people to achieve something grand. Certainly some people are there just for the loot, others for the competitive aspect, others for that grand experience etc. Each guild is different and its largely up to the leader to define the atmosphere. Raiding concept itself isnt the problem, its how people approach it that can cause issues. As such, finding a guild that suits YOUR raiding style is very important.
