A not so gentle reminder that participating in a kickstarter guarantees you nothing.

Hey!  This is the internet; we don't have time for rational solutions when there is publicity to be had by doing something inane like burning some books.

Yea and when you buy a CE of a game with a miniature in it, lets just send a picture .

People give massive sums to kickstarters with the assumption that the developer has any accountability for their promises but they do not. They can literally buy hookers with the 1mill you donated and quit the next day and are even protected by the kickstarter user agreement. The entire system is a scam.

Companies will invest in games that are good, it's the weak hearted developers that keep pitching WoW clones cuz they don't have the balls to try something new. Even microsoft themselves invested in the original hardcore Vanguard until they realized all the money was wasted by Brad McQuaid and his inexperienced team.

The guy should be sued to recover the loses. I know kickstarter does state that if the project is not completed then its your lose but the guy completed the project and had the books. But, he could not post them as had run out of money. Well, when he burned those books he technically destroyed someones property without their consent.

He could of handled this so differently to show some actual grace behind himself, but instead, he acted like a child and burned the books as a big F U to his supporters because he was frustrated.

Why even show the picture of them burning if not to incite his backers.

I don't think anyone is questioning how much of a douche John Campbell is.

Sounds to me that the person was extremely stressed and just needed that weight off his shoulders.I can't believe anyone would figure to make a life of writing books, not without a ton of stress and failure,so he sort of dug his own grave i guess and SHOULD have realized the pitfalls.

Life has a lot of pain for everyone from paying bills to failing at your dreams. It is just good to hear he feels better after lifting that burden from his shoulders, perhaps he will now realize it is time to pick a better profession and get a job that pays the bills and hopefully w/o all the stress.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

This is why you look into who is doing a project before you decide to back it.  There is a difference between giving your money to a random mentally ill person who happens to have a website, and giving your money to Obsidian, Chris Roberts, Jane Jensen, Lori and Corey Cole, etc. etc.

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.

    Through strength, I gain power.
    Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
    The Force shall free me.

Well it is a very artistic statement in a very douche bag way. It's cool he shipped 75%, but only of book 1 and said screw the other 25%.

All said and done if somehow this guy ever gets out of the hole he has dug himself and somehow becomes famous then that book will probably be worth a small fortune, just sayin'.

Angry backers should find him, stick a wasp in his rear, wrap him in paper and mistaken him for one of his books.

"guys I ran out of money, I can't afford to ship you the books I promised you. instead of asking you if you want to pay the shipping cost of your book, I decided to burn them. peace out. oh, and thanks for supporting my dream."

Why the fuck didn't this guy just ask people who donated to at least pay their own shipping to receive their book over the option of just destroying it!? I mean the least he could do is ask. Deplorable to do it the way he did it

Yup and just goes to show your money can end up literally anywhere when you fund these kickstarters. He showed no sign of mental issues or instability before this kickstarter but just decided "F it" with other peoples money. The sad part is this has been happening with many kickstarter projects, this is just the most public. Already see it with Pathfinder straying very far from Pathfinder rules, which is the opposite of what they promised. To name a less extreme example.
