2 ) Do not play in the Beta.
Worse advice ever. Better advice was: "When you play beta dont forget it is beta"
3) Disable global chat when you first start playing.
Lol, global chat is THE feature that dont allow you to forget you are playing a mmo...
Your advices is like you want to hide something about the game and dont want the others know.

I like cheetos but not so thrilled about Dew'Is Coke an option? But yea, snacks help.420 is a must when gaming, screw Cheetos and dew....until afterwards at least I never had 420. How many can you drink in one sitting without heart failure?

Thankfully. Skyrim is a decent game, but it's a terrible RPG. ESO is much better in that regard.I prefer Skyrim. This game is on rail and the exploration is Skyrim is much better.
ESO is a mediocre MMO - nothing new except using the ES Universe.
Remember, you will end up playing with console players since it is coming out for them also.
judging by this post and your posting history in general, i don't think you have a clue about this game to be honest lol
you seem really threatened by ESO, being a GW2 fan.
3) Disable global chat when you first start playing.
1 and 3, especially 1, are what I always tell my friends. The quickest way to dislike a game, even if you've been playing it and having fun, is to read the forums. The next quickest way is to actually take a moment to read general chat.
The only time it's safe to read game forums is to search for a specific problem you need help with and learn to skip over posts that aren't providing an answer. That's tough to do.
Playing Beta tests kind of depends on the type of gamer you are. If you're a glass half empty sort that sees bad and expects no good in the future then avoid playing games pre-release. Maybe even avoid playing for the first month or two after release. If you're a glass half full type gamer that sees the good stuff with some annoying things that you know will get fixed eventually then by all means have fun.
hmm, prefering 420 to mountain dew - wonder which will kill you first, the dew or the 420?
420, 4:20, or 4/20 (pronounced four-twenty) is a code-term used primarily in North America that refers to the consumption of cannabis and by extension, as a way to identify oneself with cannabis subculture or simply cannabis itself.
ah well, with the 420 at least you'll have a mellow death

If by 'rails' you mean, 'if you only stick to areas where you won't be horrendously murdered, then you are going zone by zone' then yes it is on rails. Otherwise I'm having a hard time finding these rails anywhere else.
Since when does "new" indicate quality? You qualify mediocre with "nothing new," but as we should all know, 'a new thing' isn't indicative of whether it is 'good' or not.
And third, dead wrong. Each platform has it's own megaserver.
Speaking of, is there a reason why you seem to enjoy popping into every thread on ESO saying you won't play it, either have wrong or suspect information, asserting your opinion as fact, and generally being miserable? Inquiring minds want to know.
Honestly I'm confused by the on rails comment. Sure you have 'quests'..it's a game where quests are the backbone. That said, I usually try to maximize my going in THAT direction to hit as many quests as possible and then go OVER THERE.
The last beta while I did force myself to look at a few quests that needed to progress but most of the time I was running hither and yon and wonder WTH...where am I? Quickly followed by...who cares, this is bloody well fun! Other than a couple trips back to town to sell a few items or craft.
I even left the 2-5 area and realized around level 7 that I had to go back to find a shard I had missed. When I did it I found 2 quests I had run past and had a hell of a good time climbing a mountain (ok a big hill) to get a birds eye view looking for the shard. Found it too and wasn't that just a cool thing!

no, he just doesn't know what he is talking about.
This makes sense, but I am like the curious cat. I can't help but want to see the beta. I've been in other beta's and I understand how production of software works so I know things will change.
I don't think many people will understand they are playing on old servers with old software that is not the latest debugged version. However, you will still get to see quite a few things that will not change such as artwork, and mechanics of the game.
For me that makes it worth it.
Reading general chat helps me because every 50th person actually has something intelligent to say. Has some information that I would want to know. I am good at filtering out trolls and idiots so no problem there. I have over a decade of MMO experience.
4. Earn a months supply of brownie points with the wife / friends / family beforehand.
5. Ring people on March 30th and tell them you have the measles
Playing: Darkfall New Dawn (and planning to play Fallout 76) Favourite games have included: UO, Lineage2, Darkfall, Lotro, Baldur's Gate, SSX, FF7 and yes the original Wizardry on an Apple IIe
Understand that nothing in life is perfect and high expectations can lead to great disappointment. Knowing these will greatly improve the way you deal with the results of actually playing.
For me this applies to more than just ESO
Well said, I find myself saying these things on forums/comments sections all the time with game reviews, movie reviews or whatever. People need to learn to take things for what they are, not what they think they should or should not be, you'll enjoy things a lot more. We're aiming way too high though, people NEVER think before they start crapping from the mouth. I kept saying leading up to SWTOR's, GW2's, and TSW's launches for everyone to have reasonable expectations or else they will have guaranteed disappointment, and it's no different with ESO. It's become tradition with this genre and I'm sick of it, everyone crying "oh well it has THIS, but I wanted THAT and why did they do this THAT way or why is this missing?!". If you don't like the next big mmorpg coming out, fine, just shut up and move on. But of course, A LOT of the negativity is from fans of a different mmorpg and they feel threatened, so instead of playing their game, they go around forums trying to tear the game down.
3) Disable global chat when you first start playing.
I disagree with point 2. If you don't try it in beta how do you know you will like it. You could just waste $50 only to realise you don't like the game. I'm a firm believer in try before you buy.
Beta is not a test drive... It is made to help the developers find bugs faster and improve the game.
No. That's what betas used to be, quite a long time ago at this point. They still serve that function, but it's the much smaller function they serve. They're absolutely test trials and marketing tools to help bring in prospective players now.

Unless one's experience in the Beta is negatively influenced by the glut of short term players, and you can even tell from a beta if you will like it.
And, most mmorpgs I have tried seem fine at first.
I don't know. I'm not sure I'd ever purchase an MMO before trying it. If I don't get into a beta nowadays, I'm probably not going to be playing the game.
I also completely disagree that you can't judge whether or not you'll like the game from a beta test. I've never had a problem making such judgments. Every game that I discerned I'd like from a beta I ended up liking. Every game I discerned I wouldn't like I, well, I didn't play lol.
3) Disable global chat when you first start playing.
Just consider that for the most part, you're talking to a different audience these days. Back in the day - this was the only choice. There wasn't a public beta. There weren't forums discussing every little detail. Hell, some games didn't even have global chat. But now.. it's all sorts of different. I wish it weren't the case.
The best way to experience ESO is to go play ES:Skyrim instead.
You got that backwards, the best way to experience the land of Skyrim is to head to it in ESO.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.

No, it's up to the developers what their beta accomplishes and why they have it.

Yeah... I'm trying to remember a AAA mmo where any major flaw/issue was addressed between open beta and launch.
Rofl, True that .
Big Open Betas ruin games. It just does, no way to slice it. Sure it may boost their initial sales, but a month after release, those boosted saled people (plus more) quit because they are bored due to the fact that they experienced the same crap 10x over in Beta and can get through it all in their sleep.
I wish I could just take a screenshot of everyone after playing the betas over and over, then compare their posts/subscriptions a month later, showing them crying on the forums about lack of content/being bored.
I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.
I headed into beta expecting another generic MMO with an Elder Scrolls skin and little similarities from the series. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the game played and felt like a ES title. Whilst it certainly isn't "Skyrim online", it's a good online alternative.
This is where a lot of complaints come from. It isn't enough like Skyrim or *Insert Elder Scrolls Game here*
It is a hybrid and the earlier you realize this, the earlier you can enjoy the game on its own terms.
This is all kind of silly talk. For me to enjoy ESO, I would need to 5) leave all reason at the front door.
There is no way I could see myself enjoying ESO, although I want to. Things like phasing, instant teleports, no open world pvp, instances, no physics to things like shooting arrows, no risk, no pvp collision detection, no friendly fire.
For me to like ESO, I would need to dismiss all those things above that I feel important and just enjoy ESO for what it is. Don't think I can do that.

4) Dont skip quest text and read it or listen to the story
1. Turn the red fuzz down to 20%
2. Turn off quest markers (as per build 0.18)
3. Turn off zone chat
