There was only one reason this is being put into the game. Cash shop, cash shop, cash shop oh, and did I say cash shop? Well good for you people who enjoy this. I'm sure there will be some fun to have of this . Have fun !

Bioware needs to treat the subs better than what they do. If any of this feature ends up on the CM so that even subs have to use CCs to enjoy it that is BS. Your $15 dollars/month should  be all that you need to get the full experience. The CM was the biggest reason why I cancelled my sub  and decided to hang it up.

    Ummmmmmmm, what?

First, SWTOR is one of the largest MMORPGs currently available. So I'd argue that whatever market research was done, it was done well. Games don't just trip over 2 million users. Oops! Oh, look, 2 million users. Awesome!

Secondly, playing catch-up is a way of life for the majority of games. There can only be one innovator. So, in an industry which some might say is stagnant as far as feature development goes, yeah, they are probably playing catch-up.

Finally, I think that SWTOR is doing a pretty good job listening to what their customers want. You want off-rails flight? Done. You want housing? Done. I mean these are things that people are asking for. Just open your eyes and read the forums. It's literally all.....over......the.....place.

Why is playing catch-up in any way optimal just because a majority of a failing industry uses that method?

Where is that rule stated that there can only be one innovator?

When will dellivering an awkward and non-asked for type of space flight and housing be positive?

Stop making things up just to suit your reality, it's garbage like this that continues to feed a stagnant industry signals that short-cuts in development process is acceptable.

Innovate == New. There can be only one.

If you don't think that there were any innovations in SWTOR, then that's fine. I'd disagree. First, it was fully voice-acted. Decision-based gameplay. Light/Dark. Companions (for all classes). While these are not necessarily innovations within the gaming industry at large, it is within MMOs.

Google SWTOR Housing and you get 3 million results. So saying that it's something that nobody asked for is laughable. Granted it's not 3 million results of people asking for it, but it's something that's been asked for since the game was originally launched.

No, what's garbage is people who's idea of feedback is "Crap! I'm done!" You say you want them to listen to customers, but when this is the most detailed feedback people are willing to give, it's REALLY helpful.

You kind of proved my point already when saying there could "be only one" innovating this genre.

There are no logic at all claiming we can only have one successful developer.

You think so because it fits into your mind and ideas of how things works for you.

For the record, I like swtor, play it like a single player game with coop and its fun.

But I'm not fanatic enough to claim it's all good and dandy in the Star Wars world. If you ignore the flaws from past and ignore what we get now compared to the BW vision, this kind of products is what you will continue to get.

You may be cool with that, but in my opinion it was a waste of resources and money.

All of these other games including the ones mentioned here in this post.... are truly just a waste of time. As far as the housing systems go. I want  the random stranger roaming around to be able to come in and look at my handy work.  I want to be able to place my house where I like.  Not floating in the sky or hidden behind an instance wall. I want people to be able to just show up at my house and by from my vendor inside my house.  I want to be able to craft my house & the things that go inside.  I want to be able to put anything I want inside my house. Not have to choose from a pre determined list. I want all things for my house to be included with my sub... not purchased from a cash shop on top of my sub. If those criteria aren't met then it is just a waste of resources IMO.  Again this is just my opinion.
Sounds like they copied Ultima Online all the way.

ETA:  Just think of the cash shop possibilities!

That's exactly what they are thinking about.  They need more stuff to put in those gambling boxes.  What's funny is people will buy them.

    You make me like charity

I don't think we'll have that ever again.  For better or worse.  Again, SWG had my favorite housing/crafting systems to date, but everything else suffered for it.

I would rather have multiplayer star ships seemless space with exploration and crafting on the same scale as swg.... Combat is still dull n boring.. Give us mount n blade type combat.

The only game that did houses right was Ultima Online, where they were actually meaningful and a part of the world.

Having played SWTOR, I am not sure what the point of housing in this game would be except for some decorating. So is this more then just new cash shop fluff?

I also think it is weird to add seperate housing because players already have their spaceship. Why not let them customize that?

  • daltaniousdaltanious Member UncommonPosts: 2,381

Would be nice addition, but I'm playing no game for housing. This for me is just like salt in soup. I could live with soup without salt, but for sure not with salt only. :-) Fortunately Swtor has excedeed all my expectations, love it, Swtor and Wow so far is all I need for next 10 or 20 years. :-) Still always looking for something new.

The only thing I would really love to see now is some TRUE Swtor expansion. Even something like Makeb would do in worst case scenario. :-)

depending on how much player interaction will be within a house this can potentially make me sub here and there along with wow (alternating subs back n forth). If its just an instanced small space with no interaction at all then nah.... Lets wait and see.

I hope it doesn't take more than one loading screen to get to the bathroom. Otherwise they better sell a cleaning droid in the cartel shop.

My thoughts exactly. As someone who loved the game... ( I have my Malgus statue on my bookshelf in my office at work still )

The cash shop and the way they nickle & dimed their subscribers to death killed the game for me.

I am glad to see they are adding it in for those still enjoying the game however.

Where, exactly, is the game nickle and diming subscribers to death?  For someone who has everything "unlocked" because he is subscribed, pretty much everything in the shop is purely cosmetic.  How many outfits do you need?

This is just my opinion and the way I feel so take it with a grain of salt....  however I will tell you where I felt nickle and dimed to death.

    1. Dyes

    2. Cartel Packs

    3. Mounts

    4. pets

While these things are purely cosmetic it still is an overall part of the game for me. If I am paying a full sub of $15 mo I do not want to have to pay for all the little extra's... and before you say you can buy them on the AH... I just feel as a full subscriber there should be an in game way to obtain them without being raped on the AH or having someone else have to pay RL money for them to get there...  I mean 1mil credits for a white/white dye or white/black dye that is a one time use... YEAH

In the end you may feel differently but in my eyes that IS nickle and diming.... even it is a perceived thing by me... Perception is reality..

so...the dyes are made by artificers. Mounts...well.. cybertech makes 3, some events and quests give you some, there are quite a few mount vendors on different planets.  Pets...I am not really a pet collector in TOR, so aside from a couple I bought from vendors for gits and shiggles and the couple I get from having the CE and some other thing I did (I honestly don't know what it was I did to get one of the pets all my toons get), I cannot speak truthfully on that.  Cartel Packs, as a sub you get a min of like 500 coins a month (more coins per month for different plans), you get 100 coins per month if you have the security key, you get some from doin certain achievements while playing the game, more than enough to buy you a couple packs per month with some change left over for other little items should you so choose.

So I can't really say that the game nickle and dimes ya, it does however want you to actually play the game though.  If you want to spend money on cosmetics and other little bits and pieces, you can.  I know you said it's your perception, and that's all well and good, all I am trying to do is widen your view to help you see more of the picture :)

  • mysticalunamysticaluna Member UncommonPosts: 265

You can get some companion pets from the rhakghoul plague event which was fun, and probably other world events/quests I'd hope...

I bought a few companion pets off the global trade network for credits and they weren't that expensive or rare...

Nice idea from Bioware.  But I would really prefer hearing more on how they are going to fix the installion issues me and others are having.  Support has gone down the tubes and many cannot get the to patch correctly since the last few patch.  The launcher is completely broken and both the online and call in support is completely useless.  They keep saying the problem is on my end when I know it is not.  They will not admit that they broke it and expect us user to do exactly what they say to fix it on our end.

Pfft. I has a ship. Make that 9 ships, not that I'm playing anymore. Keeping up with the game, yes, it was great fun and may be again. Being able to customize the inside of your personal starship would have been real news though. This? Can you pick the planet?

Starship has a bed and everything :D

LOL More stuff for the cartel market, I am glad the game has fans, I am huge Star Wars fan, and I played TOR loved the 8 storey lines, after that the game offered me nothing, I have never seen a game so monetized, in my life, and give you nothing for your money... I hope the fans enjoy that's all matters..:)

I'd return in a heartbeat if I could have my character names back that I started the game with which were given to others due to server merges - its stupid this day and age there still has to be UNIQUE character naming.

DEFINITION OF REALITY: Graphics ok, Sound ok, Gold drops need more work...
