What's so great about Vanguard ?

DamonVileDamonVile Member UncommonPosts: 4,818

I don't get what's so great about this game ? It looks just like another EQ clone...it's even by the same people. The graphics could have been taken right out of EQ2, and just about every game ever made says there will be no grind.

So I'm asking the fans, what is it about this game that makes it so much better then the other clone looking games ?

The thing I like about it is its multiple leveling aspects. You can gain exp either through politics, crafting, or fighting. Also it pretty much stole the EQ2 engine so it has the possibility of making really immaculate graphics.

    mmorpg.com Gamelist description
Imagine a vast, detailed world of swords and sorcery, of dragons and knights, of fiery swords and chests overflowing with treasure… a world in which a myriad of sentient races and creatures, many of whom players will be able to base a character on, live and affect change. A place where players can follow very different paths of advancement, including assuming the roles of adventurers, crafters and merchants.

Characters will not only own buildings and vehicles, but they will also whisper into the ears of kings, manipulate the hand of justice, and change the direction of history. They will make their mark on a world we initially create but they ultimately shape and form.

Players will experience settings ranging from enjoying a drink in a tavern to walking through the streets of a bustling city. They will travel with trade caravans across deserts and they will fight pirates on the high seas. They will ascend the highest peak in the land and also explore the depths of eerie dungeons...

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes will be the premier third generation massively multiplayer RPG. A vast, seamless, immersive virtual world filled with elements of familiar High Fantasy, including traditional themes and more, all depicted using cutting-edge graphics technology. Sigil’s expertise and experience in the field will bring groundbreaking static and dynamic content to the genre. Vanguard will build upon the successes and strengths of earlier MMOGs to improve popular game mechanics and features, but also address these pioneering games’ mistakes and deficiencies. Vanguard will focus heavily on interdependence, challenge, and reward, while simultaneously addressing tedious and annoying issues, including camping, excessive downtime and more.

It does have a very bland boring and old feeling about it!

The art looks horrible too and it looks like EQ2, as in no soul or personality.

Tbh it's the only mmorpg thats coming out that wont be a big flop for sure.

Sounds interesting Cleffy, maybe I do have to check this one out (been too busy checking out RFonline :) )

RF is another point and click grind-fest. The most interesting part about it is its multi-faction conflicts that don't actually play a major role.

Saga of ryzom had 3 ways to lvl but if anyones ever tried that game, I doubt they'd say having 3 types of exp to grind was better then the normal one. And that quote you copied could be put cut and pasted into any game and still make sence....somewhat :) They all say some BS about making your own destany or change the course of history...by doing our lame grind quest that only has 1 ending.

Is there any info on what type of classes or races you can be ? I saw a lore section but it didn't say much, or I missed it ?

It's not that I want to tear apart this game, I 'd just like to know if there's a real reason to all it's hype or did they just do a better job of writing a description of features it may have. These people have spent the last few years working for/with SOE, so I do have to wonder if they even know that you have to have more then hype and time sinks to make a good game.
