Will Closed Beta be Delayed?

jdevo2004jdevo2004 Member Posts: 8
It seems that a ton of features and the actual design of the world is missing and it is only 4 weeks away from the closed beta date.  How do they expect to implement so many features in such a short time?  Seems to me like they will delay closed beta for a month or so.

Well, unless they want to refund all those people that bought the $20 package for beta access on March 31st I doubt it.  And if they give those same folks alpha access the people that spent $60 will likely be steamed.  Makes me think there might be a longer beta period on tap but it will start when they indicated rather than be delayed. It is what it is.

I doubt it, they said the road map will not be dependent on where they are in the betas, so I think it will start on the very last day it can, and they will roll out stuff till they are ready and have a final product.  So closed beta will probably last longer than alpha imo.

I am looking forward to seeing how everything evolves and what the finished product looks like for both Landmark and EQN, they could end up being really great (think Landmark is going to be good for its audience at a minimum, and could crossover into being a great mmo for the masses if done right, EQN is the riskier one).

I could love it or hate it, can't say until I see it all.

In Wednesday's live stream, Dave stated that it would NOT be delayed.

They also stated the game wouldn't be feature complete when they release so there is no reason they have to delay any stages.

It really does not matter what state Landmark is in when they start beta or release the game. Landmark is not really a game.  Long after release Landmark will still be an Alpha product.  It is just an Alpha and eventual beta product for EQNext that they have talked people into giving them money to play through some quite clever marketing.  It's purpose is is to help develop and hype EQNext while getting players to give them free money.

Since they've sold Closed Beta access, I'm going to assume they won't or can't delay it. No reason to really, unless they don't have the hardware to support the new players, but they should know exactly what they will need by seeing what has happened so far. They have said they are currently buying lots of hardware. Even if Closed Beta has the same features as Alpha, they are delivering what they have promised for the most part. One of the perks of F2P, can be "beta" forever if they want. People can complain and they can point to the beta tag.

I do not think that Closed Beta will be delayed, it will launch at 3-31 but it is quite likely that the closed Beta will be looong and that Landmark is not fully launched until the summer of 14.

Last wednesday Dave Georgeson on the twitch livestream confirmed they are still on schedule for a closed beta release of on or before March 31st.

no. but eq: next will. I know they haven't set a date. but the landmark alpha seems to have them scrambling. from earlier interviews/videos and such, they seem to have lost some confidence in what they are/were trying to do with both games. landmark alpha has plummeted player wise. things are taking longer than they thought. but they will not delay "closed beta" as they already promised a date for it.

You must be subscribing to an inside mole twitter account or something.  You have a magic mirror that has been filling you in on player counts?  You are or also visit the same head shrink thereby gaining such info as their confidence?

Making games is hard to do.  There are millions and millions of lines of code that have to be written, tested, stressed, bug checked, fixed, then repeated.  Many of the problems don't reveal themselves until thousands and thousands of people are all interacting with the system.

Also, since they haven't released any dates around EQN then it is impossible for it to be late.

Well I am in Alpha and there was an expectation that a lot of people would come back this weekend with new Biotopes and add om claims, the actual number of people back where less than expected. But did they not return because they did not like Landmark for what it is and will be? Or did they sign up for something they thought would be an early EQ Next introduction (and it is not)? I still think Landmark is great fun and it will be very successful if they continue as they are doing now, but it is not a game for all MMO players and SOE have been unable or unwilling to state that clearly.

With the start of the closed Beta they will most likely have a large number of their projected initial player base in game and can fiddle with the game for some time and launch when they are ready.

How do you know the numbers? Would adding more areas have anything to do with it? I moved myself..guessing my old neighborhood isn't as full.

They still seem to be moving right along, few hiccups and unforeseen things, but it is Alpha after all. They are literally developing the game as time goes on. Not like they can just magically have everything work perfectly before and after players get their hands on it.

The game does not need to be complete when they move to beta.

I think EQ Next is a far way off as well. EQL is pretty close to exactly on pace with what they said it would be. They are really close to on time with the roadmap. I see no lack of confidence at all though, just the opposite. Player base is doing more with the engine than I expected them to be able to do.

Does it need to be delayed, hell yes, it's a shell right now, just building, gathering, talking with each other/helping, and exploring, is all you can do right now, (though I am having fun with that part still).

It's no where near ready for a traditional closed beta. In it's current states it's more like an alpha at 1 year in most traditional mmo alphas. The tools need refining A LOT for the average player to be able to build anything really nice like the stuff we're able to build in alpha, because we've stuck through the frustration of the limited tools given us and do a lot of work arounds to make different shapes and designs to make beautiful amazing things...

Will they delay it? No, they'll go with their promised released date, on or before it, even though in my opinion the game is waaaay to far behind schedule already, just look at their roadmap, they're way behind.

Let's hope they're like traditional mmos in at least one way, they have a build a head of the alpha players right now with way more features than they've given us.
