When you rage on the forums. Does it really bother you as much as it seems?

To people who post these novels about how they are quitting a game because they ruined this and destroyed that. And just seem so completely upset over something being nerfed, or taken away, or "dumbed down". Are you really as upset as you seem?

I can't help but imagine one of these hardcore people going to work after having to quit their favorite MMO.

Co-worker: "Hey man, you seem really down today, what's wrong?"

Gamer: "You have no idea."

Co_worker: "It's ok, you can talk to me about it."

Gamer: "Well... I had to quit my MMORPG today! I had no choice!"

Co-worker: "Oh, well... are your money troubles that hard?"

Gamer: "No, it's not the money. They added... oh my god I can't say it"

Co-worker: "What?"

Gamer: "They added... RNG chests as loot! And you have to purchase KEYS in the CASH SHOP TO OPEN THEM!!!"

*throws up*

Co-worker: "umm... it's just a game man."

Gamer: "You don't understand. You're just a casual! You have no idea what it's like! This isn't Angry Birds or Candy Crush."

Co-worker: "Well, is the game still fun?"

Gamer: "Yes! That's the hard part!"

Co-Worker: "Well, can't you just not use the boxes?"

Gamer: "That's not the point! It's the principal of the thing! If I don't stand up against RNG lock boxes who will?! You should join me in my fight. We are going to rage all over the forums next week in protest and crash their Twitch stream!"

Co-worker: "You know... I would, but I'm being sent back over to Afghanistan next week."

Gamer: "Fucking casuals, always letting bull shit get in the way."

When I rage on forums does it really bother me as much as it seems?

    Nope. Not at all.

When OTHER people rage on forums does it really bother me as much as it seems?

    YES!!!

It's all a matter of perspective and worth. It always matters to the rager. That's uhh . . . why they do it in the first place and that's why this little thread won't change anything on the internet. EVER!

I just assume the forum ragers are just a bunch of hyper sensitive sissies.

I can't help but think of a scenario about someone talking to me about car parts.. Me eagerly awaiting for them to STFU because i don't care.

I mean after all.. it's just a car.

I get what you're saying and I understand. In a way, I've been there. I won't say over what or under what circumstances, but I latched onto something on the internet that was important to me. After a while I became so disappointed in the direction it was going that I left on a matter of principle. I was really hurt for a few weeks but I managed to get over it when I found an acceptable substitute.

There will be times when you just have to make a stand for something you believe in even if no one else seems to care. Knowing that you're at least doing it for yourself helps with the healing that must come from being let down. I wanted to rage over my little incident but in the end what I did was pretty minor, mostly because I knew there weren't enough people that would actually care or take me seriously so I didn't whine and moan as much as I could have. I left the people that didn't see or appreciate my input and vision and I found people that did. Problem solved.

Ragers are gonna rage. That's a given with the internet we have. I've found that the two best methods for dealing with them are to either "generally ignore them and let them work through their issues" or "gently encourage them to move on and find something else that can take their mind off what's bothering them". That, and...well treating them like crap for being such whiny little bitches over nothing important. That works too sometimes.

I find that people often try to belittle what is important to you.  Everyone decides that for themselves.  If going to war and fighting for your country is whats important to you then that's great IMO.  If games hold a place of importance for you then i don't see whats wrong with that.  Games have been around forever and people could argue that life itself is just one big game that people are playing.  This post is one of many where people try to tell you that your focus should be on something else more important.   Then the same people will complain that their cash shop or style of play shouldn't be questioned.
