Elder Scrolls Online: Spotlight Shines on Crafting

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The latest Elder Scrolls Online Ask Us Anything centers around crafting. Questions range from crafting stations to crafted item bonuses and more.

How will crafted gear compare to dungeon loot and PvP rewards? I hope the crafting system won’t be there just to do something when you're bored, but that it will contribute to the economic health of the game.

Crafted gear of the same level and same quality as gear found in the world is almost always better. For instance, if you find a level 22 sword of fine quality, but your friend crafts a level 22 sword of fine quality, the damage done by the crafted sword is going to be slightly better. However, some of the gear you find in the world will have unique enchantments or set bonuses crafters cannot replicate. Still, a crafter might be able to take that dropped item and make it even better while retaining the unique enchantment.

Looking forward to wasting 7326 hours of my life crafting. Bring it !

Dropped items in the world are researchable. The quality of the item the crafter wants to learn takes 6 hours, and the item is consumed in the process, but the crafter now has learned that items trait and can imbue new weapons with it as they make them.

For example if a Sturdy blade takes less damage upon defeat, you can learn to craft that trait into other blades you make.

Meh - not impressed, I used to like crafting but now it's just a boring time sink.

I'm not paying much attention to crafting because of the lack of AH. The system looks good from the videos and info i've seen so far, but without a good way to trade, sell and buy, i can see the massive problems in the economy.

Not having an AH is fine and all, but the whole Guild shops in keeps is not something i see being a good replacement. Will have to wait and see. Could be surprisingly good and help foster community. Or just frustrate everyone and bread more "a**holeness". My money's on the later, sadly.

Well in a traditional crafting system I might agree. Choose a couple gathering skills and pick a main profession is all to common and gets boring.

I am looking forward to this one and hope it will be a good change.

No AH may force or steer people into being part of a guild. Crafting for a guild will be very satisfying imho.

They do seem determined to integrate crafting and crafted gear in to the game. Best of luck to them in finding that balance between the place where players can't abuse it but won't dismiss it.

Point A: it becomes a cartel and a way for RMT and gold farmers to exploit the game.

Point B: it's throttled and useless in the end.

Something I didn't take note of in Beta and haven't seen in any of the questioning.

    Decay.

Strange how devs talking about crafting and in one paragraph make it sound better than others negative spin on crafting. The problem with allowing other peoples perception to be our own allows for error even for something as simple as observing how a crafting system works.

Joy of joys of having to make 2 characters to be able to craft for yourself and not waste skill points from the main character who's gonna need every last bit of HP/attack in the PvP. It's a shame though, it sounds as crafting is decent, something a bit better than a standard MMO fare, but having same skill points for crafting and rest of the stats...weeeeeellll, devs, imo not a very bright idea.

I personally think AH's suck, I'd rather advertise on a Trade channel, either trade what I made for something I want or do a standard auction where I get all the money and the AH doesn't take their cut and I have to wait 5 days or so. Plus you see less of those ridiculous prices that foster gold sellers and ruin the economy
