Keyboard for LoL and D3

angerbeaverangerbeaver Member UncommonPosts: 1,273

Hi All,

Would anyone have suggestions for a gaming keyboard for someone that is interested in gaming competitively in LoL and they enjoy D3?

My step-sister is looking to buy her bf the keyboard.

I am not sure if there are LoL themed keyboards or if gamers have specific things they look for in keyboards which is why I thought I'd grab some suggestions if anyone has some =)

Thanks,

Different people like different keyboards. If he plays any more seriously, he's likely to have his own preferences about what kind of keyboard he likes, and you'll have to ask him before making the purchase. Otherwise you'll just end up buying something that he won't use.

Yeah but my thinking is try to get some sort of ideas from you guys and she can buy him that. If he ends up not liking the kybd for whatever reason he can return it for something more his style =).

I would just like some ideas of what is popular I suppose. For me any keyboard is fine so I have never looked into them.

There are a couple of different things to look at in keyboards

The first, and one of the bigger things for gamers, are macro keys. Some gamers live by programmable macro keys. Others could care less and never use them. If this person is someone who lives by macro keys, then it's a must-have.

THe second would be peripheral use: things like media keys, volume control, USB ports, backlit keys, etc. Some people like them, others never use them or didn't even know they existed. Again - if they are used to them, it's a must-have.

The last is the classic mechanical vs membrane key debate. Some people are really finicky about the way their keyboard "feels" when they type.

Keyboards range in price from about $5 fir your basic no-frills no-name, to over $200 for a high end "gaming" keyboard. I'm of the opinion that the keyboard gets used enough that if a $200 keyboard is what feels right to you and nothing else quite feels right, then it's a worth-while purchase (a serious gamer will spend hours a day on this thing, may as well get something that feels right), and if you can't tell the difference between the $200 and the $5 keyboard, then why waste the money.

Your best bet: Get them a gift card to Newegg or Amazon, and let them pick out their own keyboard. This is one of those deeply personal preference things that is really easy to not get just right.

*edit* sorry, lots of typos. I just got a new keyboard myself and I'm not quite used to it yet, and my spellcheck sucks.
