Should ESO have yearly Fan Convention Events?

KnotwoodKnotwood Member CommonPosts: 1,103

I have always been fond of game companies who hold fan events for their fans to be a part of in real life, all the cool costumes, the cool goodie bags they give, the other players you can meet in real life, and the great details of upcoming expansions and content.  What say you all?

Do you think ESO should have a Fan Convention Event every year?

I haven't voted because why is everyone on here thinks ESO will be the game of the year?  ESO isn't all that popular if you look at Facebook followers.  So let's say the game sales 3 million copies, which I highly doubt because of their dumb move of releasing it one week a part from D3's expansion, and of course most of the player base will go towards a hack N slash game rather then another MMORPG.      Let's see how TESO does within a year of release before even talking about fan conventions. It's like  2 people that just met and are already talking about marriage before even going to their first meal together.  Sometimes I wonder if these kind of threads are the ones that creates false hype toward a new release.

I'd consider going to a Bethesda fan convention.

Probably not if it were just for ESO.

FWIW, they do have a sort of convention.  QuakeCon is basically Bethesda-fest every year now, because they own id.

Only if they charge $40 for you to stay at home and watch it over the net.

No.  Dedicated conventions for specific companies are a little obnoxious, they should just go to both PAX conventions, both sides of the country get one and you get to see everything at the same place.

I do Blizzcon every year since they provided that service. Living on the East Coast just makes the trip to be there in person tedious.

I had friends (before I disowned them for their poor taste) that paid that much for a single viewing of the next big WWF event.

I get a digital goodie out of my ticket as well. They get a living room that smells of mansweat and cheap beer.

    I win.

Oh! And I voted YES but only on the premise that it is held in or near their homestate (Maryland).

I have a feeling that the threads in the ESO forum 1-6 months after release are going to look a lot different than people seem to expect.

if they guarantee me it will be womansweat then i'd go in person just for the convention experience. Otherwise i stick to the online service too.

I would prefer a development team that discusses openly over socialmedia on a daily base then a team that meets with their playerbase once a year

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I would be all for it but aren't most gamers today unsociable? I have been to many cons and most of the people there are like zombies and don't really want to socialize. Not that they are not fun but the people sure don't make it so. We could hope of a big social event designed to meet people that play the game and break the ice with the gamers.

Realistically, both will probably be surprised.  I disagree with some of the decisions Zenimax has made (I really dislike the Imperial race tied to CE) but still gave the game a chance over two beta weekends.  It never hooked me, so I won't be picking it up.  Just not my thing.  That doesn't mean I don't think it will sell a ton of copies, but then only retain like 10-20% with subs.

Personally, I believe the console market will be what pushes ESO into B2P with a cash shop.  When sub numbers are hurting really badly on consoles (I believe the sub retention on consoles will be terrible) and they realize they can make way more money with a cash shop, it will happen.

I think PC retention will probably be a little higher than that.  Even TOR retained substantially more than that, and ESO (while having a similar heavy emphasis on story) does a better job of pretty much every non-narrative element of the game.  As for the console market, I agree.  I don't see the kind of people who would choose to play an MMO on a console being very likely to embrace a subscription.  But I could be wrong, I haven't looked up how FFXIV's population breaks down between PC and PS3.

I love the armchair devs saying MMO's wont fly on consoles. Like console gamers dont spend money or something. Half of them already have to pay just to even play any game online at all, and its a medium that is extremely difficult and risky to pirate games on. As opposed to PC which is flooded with crazy basement dwelling torrent fiends who whine when any game isnt free, they probably steal F2P MMO clients just out of habbit without realizing they dont even have to. Yes that's hyperbole, I know you probably didnt get that.

The only reasoning I ever see for console gamers not wanting to pay an MMO sub fee. "They dont know what an MMO is, they've never had to pay it before." Everyone has a friend who plays WoW, any gamer knows what they are. Theres not this huge great disparity between the two mediums like PC gamers would have you to believe. That console gamers all just drunken frat boys passing around a controler looking at Lara Crofts tits.

In all seriousness, ESO will do fine, it should do fine on consoles.

Its not gonna stop hate or fan bois though, thankfully, thats probably the only reason to come to these forums.

i dont think ESO at that point to have it own convention yet.

blizzard have they own because it containt all 3 of their game WOW, diablo and star craft. i think ES only compare to 1 of those.

No. Unless it's in NYC. And then it would be "Yes".

If blizzard can do it then bethseda can do it, seeing as they have superior games.

Possibly, depending on the circumstance. Sounds like it would be cool.
