Can you say they just burned themselves really bad.... Hell the whole First Impressions was already ruined by the lack of communications and such. But now they really burned themselves.

Whether or not they were behind the IP block, it was inevitable and came of no real surprise. Granted, they aren't very forthcoming with worthwhile news or updates, but I wouldn't say they have "burned themselves".

The western release will be a new experience, even for those of us that played ArcheAge via Mail.ru already. I was having a blast and honestly, the IP block has only resulted in my interest being peaked further in ArcheAge as there was so much I hadn't experienced.

What exactly is this post about?  You mention an IP Ban, but I'm not seeing the context...

Yes, I get that.  I just don't know what it has to do with a reddit post from a year ago.  Surely this drama isn't simply the result of the game not being released in the US when they expected.  Right?

    The short story..

Mail.ru released the russian version of ArcheAge.. hundreds, maybe thousands of EU/ NA players joined it helped by a pretty accurate english patch. They managed to play 3 weeks, some of them payed the premium subscription in advance of 3 months, but this morning Mail.ru at XL Games request ( some blame Trion ) blocked the access to game for non-russian IPs.

Everyone get mad, they are asking for refunds, others still play it with proxy/VPN programs but with a lot of lag.

    The end.

Same thing, Respect me, to be respected!

Personally I think it was just a backbone down blocking some people and they did what american gamers always do and jumped to the worst possible conclusion.

Ukraine has tons of Russians which is also the reason for the ongoing stand-off right now. It being treated as a part of the Russian community by game devs is nothing new and is completely valid seeing the number of Russians that live there (Wiki states 18% by population although its from 2001 census).

Well if the IP ban was always in affect by XL games and/or MAil.ru which i assume was the case,i see no problem with it.However if they were taking people's money and allowing anyone to join, then that would be wrong.

Usually IP's are blocked because of publishing rights, which makes sense,i assume this was the case already and did not matter if Trion was involved or not.

Even still most people know how to get around IP blocks anyhow,so you can still play if you really feel the need to.IMO you should just wait and play it on NA servers, less lag and you should  be able to communicate with Trion a LOT better than trying to communicate with some Russian publisher.

Ukraine having tons of Russians is the public explanation for the stand-off, the real reasons could be anything (most likely something to do with power and money).

What comes to the Arche Age IP block, Trion could be scared that too many western players start to trickle into the Russian servers like a snowball, and when Trion finally launches their game too many people have already settled into the Russian servers. Who knows, if the experience would be good via the Russian servers XL Games might just let them handle the whole EU region too? ;)

I should note that I havent kept an eye oopen for Arche Age at all and I have no idea what's really going on, thought I'd just take part in the drama!

If they would ever be able to release that game no one would be playing on russian servers in first place.

Nowhere in that notice did they say it was.

Hello This is Trion XL Games. We Noticed Rus Server is not Banning US/EU Connections... Seems like a lot of people are enjoying the beta and there seems to be even more hate towards us now that they have learned that we don't give 2 shits about our playerbase and we have been so silent for so long. I think we need to stop Rus from having so many players the 100,000+ Online at once is clearly not just Rus Players.

XL Games.. We will get Rus to Encrypt the Language Data Files. Couple Hours later... That Failed... They already broke through the Encryption... OHH I  Guess we need to do a IP Ban then.. Trion Calls up XL Games. WE Demand a IP Ban now.... FINE..............

Mail.ru We have banned everyone good bye.

Few hours Later why are all the servers half emptied? BECAUSE XL GAMES TOLD US TO BAN EVERYONE BECAUSE YOU WOULD BE AN IDIOT NOT TO KNOW IT WAS TRION SINCE WE DON'T CARE WHO IS PLAYING ARE GAME SINCE WE MAKE MONEY PERIOD..

    OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I'm a bit surprised that they would put up an IP block at this point, it would just hurt both mail.ru and XLgames for no good reason.

XLgames isn't making any money out of the Trion license yet, so having the NA/EU players spending money on mail.ru's license will benefit XLgames.

As soon as Trion launches their version of AA, I'd expect an immediate IP ban to go up, cutting off all NA/EU players from the russian servers. The Cash Shop prices and subs in the NA/EU version of AA will be higher than the russian version, without a doubt, because the average NA/EU player has more disposable income. Therefore XLgames will want all the NA/EU players paying the higher prices, otherwise they will lose potential income, and it sounds like they can't afford to that given the game's performance in Korea...

An IP ban on all non (ex-) russian territories doesnt work. The russian forums are full of scathing posts from russians living elsewhere in europe (and there are a LOT) who cannot play with their friends and family.

I get the impression this was just a gesture to appease XLGames or Trion.

Heh. Are we using the same english patch?

The translation is so bad it's making my eyes bleed.

I've completely given up trying to make sense of gibberish of quest texts and skipping it . . .

and I do like to read the texts in most mmorpgs (I know I'm one of the odd ones).

When Trion starts their version, I'll be playing it, even though I am enjoying Archeage RU currently.

I see nothing to indicate Trion is at fault in this thread. Come up with concrete evidence or keep drinking the Kool-Aid.

    Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV
