This game looks like it has been in development for nearly 3 years, Beta was announced open to selected individuals almost 3 months ago, yet nothing. When posting on Flying Labs Software Forum you get nothing solid or decisive in return to any questions given.
Seeing as this is the main game I am looking forward too, the screenshots look amazing, it is killing me waiting so long for this.
A little research into the FLS background shows they had a game in development for a similar time, had a thriving community etc and just before beta pulled the plug, and started this one. Are we to expect the same?
Just wondering if anyone has any news.

My wife is flipping out over this game. Im pretty interesting in it myself, I really hope it meets everyone expectations. She is very active on the forums and the people seem pretty positive there, including the moderators and devs that pop in.

The devs seem to be more active in the forums over there than most games I have seen.
Their answers on game development are usually straightforward and concise.
They will not however give any insight as to when the game will launch. The best they have said is "This Winter" which ends in March 2006. So perhaps soon, but it could get pushed back.
Yes nothing, for those who are not in beta. If you had paid any attention they said you wont hear anything if you aren't selected.
You will get nothing solid back from asking questions like "what is the release date" or "who is in beta"
I have read about not hearing if you are NOT in beta. My mate has a beta key, but hasnt been on to check if it is on yet. I have not asked anything specific about WHO is in beta, just a general "has beta started?".
I dont care who is in or who isnt tbh, if beta has begun, it is a clear indication the game has taken a great step forward. Just waiting for the game, not flaming it!!
Beta has officially started
I think this game looks like a 5 star game, but Im not going to get my hopes up about it, Ive done that too many times just to become disapointed. I know nothing about the development company or their history, but I will say that baring any major disasters in beta this game will be ON!
My bigest problem with PotBS is that, "We have some very specific plans to make use of this new generation of video cards. But they're still very early plans, and there's no guarantee we'll implement any of that stuff at launch." This comes from the forum admin. Link
This is kinda old info 2004, but its the only info that I could find regarding anything like soft shadows, shaders 3.0 and/or HDR rendering so I dont really know what new hardware to get, or if it will even support it.
Anyonw know where to get definitive info? If its this close to release, this Info should be available.
You need a Nvidia 4 or higher.
The devs all use a nvidia 68000 or something
My friend has a beta key and has been in the game. He said it is very slow at the moment but is a beautiful game visually. Online at the time was only 38 players, hope this improves
You need to do a little MORE research. Beta officially started in December. We've already read beta feedback on the FLS forums.
In early January (prior to your post here) they accepted a second wave of testers. Obviously you were not one of them. (Neither was I)
You'll get your chance soon.
As for getting nothing solid or decisive in return to any questions... all I can say is, try a 'search'. The devs have been VERY co-operative over the years answering questions.
But here's the catch... the game IS in closed beta, and if you have beta tested before, you know they have separate beta forums. Where do you think the real questions and answers are being posted these days? Wouldn't you spend your time answering questions from people actually testing the game, or from people who are very anxious, but mostly clueless?
No, I'm not in beta. Yet. But like you, I will get my chance to test it.
Beta is progressing normally, workin out bugs is a time consuming process on a program 3 years in the making. The hardest part of any project is system integration, bringing all the various parts into complete harmony with each other. It's a frustrating process at times, but it will eventually move into large scale testing and open beta.
Beta testing in closed Beta for any program isn't as much fun as you'd expect, its a lot of "do this...over and over and over" and it doesn't work or chases a lot etc etc. it's every bit as frustrating as playing a bug-ridding game over and over again (Pirates of the caribbean comes to mind)
There is light at the end of this tunnel, mate, I can garuntee that.
