ArcheAge: Expanding the Alpha Post-GDC, Release in 2014

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Trion's new ArcheAge community manager Evan "Scapes" Berman has taken to the ArcheAge Source fansite with a long letter to discuss plans for the game in 2014. Among other things, Scapes mentioned that the alpha, currently in friends and family testing, will be expanded after this week's GDC. The team has big plans for GDC, including a new demo and a live stream event to be held on March 21st.

On that note, I also understand there are concerns about some of the pending changes to the game. Allow me to say this here and now: both Trion Worlds and XLGames want ArcheAge to be a free-to-play sandbox that fits our “No Tricks, No Traps” vision and will make development decisions for to achieve that goal in Trion’s territories. There are a couple of important recent examples we’d love to share: XLGames has agreed to our request that racial quests grant experience (which had been removed) and that mounts/gliders purchased from the cash shop provide solid value and fun, while earned and crafted items are objectively superior.

TLDR: I’m excited to be your point of contact for ArcheAge in the Americas and Europe and we have a lot of news coming up about bringing the game to you as quickly as possible. See you around here on ArcheAge Source and, in a little while, the official Trion forums.

I played the russian beta and was not at all interested the way they have it setup. Hopefully they have a better way to set it up here.

example 1 : Like i never understood why we need the " F " and " G " key to loot instead of right click to open loot window and shift right click to auto loot would have been better.

example 2 : Take a portal to reach a city where everything can be found to buy house stuff etc.  like on a free wow server with multi vendor.

example 3 : batch of 3 mobs together but if you attack 1 only the one attacked rush to you to fight the others stay where they where.

Things like that i did not like at all but again it is beta for the russian client, could have been normal bugs not fixed yet. Also it is very CPU extensive currently my rig kept running like if i was rendering a huge 3D scene in Maya. I also had all graphic to the lowest settings.

I Hope for NA it will be better i am looking forward to this game.

This is good news. ArcheAge is still one of my most wanted mmos.

This is good news. There are less and less cataclysm servers with no bugs and the few mist of pandaria are starting to look good.

What? You thought i was going to talk about AA?

Trion will lose considerable amounts of money due to the terrible late release date, it's already getting boring in japan and korea. What makes you think this will be a hit? This people got us waiting for AA for years, there are better games now and if they have a competent marketing manager then they'll release it at least 6 months after Warlords of Draenor.

If they are stupid enough to not do so, then the game deserves to not be played nor paid for. Bad market strategy, bad publicity, bad system, those are not good points for a game that came out of nowhere... if it was blizzard... well they have a record of making people wait but they have the money and the material to do so.

What better games are there ?

Im playing AA since a week in RU beta and man .. im totally thrilled.

The game is a lot what i like and i can not wait to get into Trion's version, even with a english 3rd party patch there is too mutch kyrillic for my kind in the RU beta ^^

"XLGames has agreed to our request that racial quests grant experience (which had been removed) and that mounts/gliders purchased from the cash shop provide solid value and fun, while earned and crafted items are objectively superior."

If these are the best things to highlight then ArcheAge is trouble.

Nothing screams sandbox like racial quests giving experience.  I know quests and sandbox can coexist, but of all the things to highlight?  This screams to me 'were getting XL to change insignificant things' Oh and they are obviously very concerned about getting nice mounts on the cash shop, no surprise there.  So you cant purchase nice items, but what about Labor Points?

In fact, the labor point system makes the game not playable to me.  Its a terrible mechanic that exists only for getting cash shop whales.

Only in friends alpha? This tells me a late 2014 release, which just seems crazy to me. It's taken so long.

I'm sure this was touched on because there was a horrible backlash from the community about taking the experience away.

<not allowed to post negative opinion>  Seems I make the moderators cry like bitches and they ban me every time I speak the truth. BOOM!

    GO ON DO IT GIRL!

Anyway, Trion is junk. Defiance ruined them. AA will perish and flounder just as fast. GG.

I do agree that Trion are taking too much time getting this to the western market and by the time they do then it may be yesterday's news and no one will care. However, no game out there currently has all the stuff that Arche Age can boast of being able to offer players. Like everything else it depends on the execution but until there is a playable western version I will still be holding my breath for this one.

I have found in my lifetime, that the beauty of hating stupid people is, that it crosses all racial boundaries.

Agreed, labor points don't belong in a cash-shop.

But don't state that you are writing this game off because labor points are for sale.  Trion has not presented their cash-shop yet.  LABOR POINTS ARE NOT VERIFIED TO BE FOR SALE!

Labor points in other regions get capped.  Higher for subcription than for F2P, but what would you expect?  I think most can agree that unlimited labor points in a cash-shop = BIG NO NO.  Hence they are capped in some regions (those with better publishers?)

Trion's been around the block, they know this too.  So please stop poo poo'ing this game with it's "terrible mechanic" before the mechanic is even developed.  Thanks for reading   =D
