I don't mind having the option of skipping the starter island, but make them default for new players. The starter islands are the "hook" to keep people interested in playing on.

Well, I only care about AD and that worked okay, to a degree.
The Prophet told me to talk to the Captain, but there was no quest marker, so I talked to about ten NPCs before I found the Captain, who was, admittedly, in a logical place, I just happened to talk to everyone en route to that place.
The boat back to the starter islands was far away, which was annoying but only a minor issue and when I got to KR, the quest was level 4, a level above me. Another minor annoyance, but not much of one.
Now, what I haven't done yet is go back to the mainland after KR. If they've scaled all the quests in the main city area to suit level 3, how does the story progress now?
Won't we end up being over leveled for the story if we go back and do the starter islands?
Skipping the starter islands as it is now breaks the story, confuses new players and has broken or nonsensical NPC interactions.
Please send the player to the starter island after Coldharbor as before and then give them a choice to skip or not. This will help new players, keep the story intact and allow players the choice in the appropriate location.
Coldharbour Escape > Starter Island Port > Player Choice to Stay and Help or Sail to the Main City.
Remember to do a quick /feedback in-game about this issue. Hopefully if enough people mention it ZOE will fix this mess.
I honestly don't even think it was that huge of an issue to begin with. It was really just a few "jaded you tube/blog types" that made the fuss.
they give you a choice but I would recommend that new players play the starter islands.
I have played starter islands like 10+ times tired of them but you get so mush loot and shards for skills so play the starting islands, maybe I will to after launch.
I was pretty unhappy about this change and griped about it on another thread. Playing through another newbie character, the prophet gives you big hint of where to go after being pulled from the sea and all. In fact, you sort of feel guilted into going back and helping the poor folks on the starter isle.....Ebonhart pact that is (I didn't play the others). I do feel a bit sorry for players that might not have played in the various betas though. This easily could be missed.
I made a new toon then you spawn in this house. I get out and see people everywhere. People riding horses. I think really? Now you can ride your horse at lvl one? I look for my quests and says I have none. I just talked to Prophet and hes gone.. so no asking him.
Yet I know how easy this game is so I see on my map and all over people "NPC's" you know the ones just standing there no life. All have this black arrow thing over them. I go and talk to one and I am being sent somewhere now..what?
Now I am on that starting area. THIS is where I should have been put not on the main land.
The downside to listening to feedback this close to launch. While people might get the option they wanted, it's not going to be well thought out or perfectly implemented. Gives very little time for iterating on what works and what doesn't.

Seriously people, If you did any kind of reading or even listening to the MAIN quest guy " The Prophet " ( also known as expensive ass voice actor they shelled out dough for so maybe give him a listen.) the second you get dropped in your main city he is standing right there and tells you where to go for the starter island.... (cough cough perhaps the docks even if you didn't listen to him.)
also the weapon thing lasts maybe 20 minutes TOPS before you upgrade, buy another, or find something better...
Why do you care that when YOU ARE ESCAPING FROM A PRISON, that you don't get to choose your weapon. If I told you to break out of prison where you are wearing rags eating a wedge of old cheese and gave you a sword would you be like " WTF BRO.. can I get a staff maybe, I'm trying to get that staff skill level grind and missing that extra 5 minutes is really going to turn me off from playing the game.... you know, the whole thing, forever." -_-
I don't want to sound like an asshole all the time, but 90% of the gripes I see in these forums are about the kind of stuff that doesn't even bother you if you take the time to actually immerse yourself in the game you might end up buying or already have bought.
That is all.
Don't cloud the argument with facts and logic, people need things to bitch about.
Having played the tutorial island and follow-up phase before the first normal zone in a previous test, I have to say this new introduction feels completely disconnected from the game and just throws you into a seemingly random house and tells you "good luck, figure it out", no quests given, and the backstory is completely disconnected.
They need to go back to the drawing board on this. Simply start on the islands again but make the islands pace faster and less structured. At least then you maintain your character's story and don't feel so lost.
Overall what they did with the introduction can be considered a dramatic step backwards in quality... A risky move to pull, now that they have almost no time left to change it before launch.
Just did the tutorial again, as a dark elf and aftewards I was placed in daggerfall. Another bug submission.
During this beta test I believe everyone gets the race/faction free option. Perhaps you selected the dark elf race but didn't change the alliance?
I didn't see anything that gave me a choice of alliance. It just asked me if I wanted to skip the tutorial!
It's right above where you chose your race during character creation The lion, Phoenix and Dragon symbols. Looking at it right now. Haha, saw your edit, can't wait til they read that bug report heh.

WARNING! Do not put your first quest weapon, the one you get off the weapon rack, into your bank. Your bank is shared among all characters in your account. So if you create an alt, the game will think it has the quest weapon available to it and you won't be able to proceed out of the prison. If you delete all of your characters, the game still thinks the starter weapon is in your shared bank and you'll never get out of Coldharbour.
Whoa, that's a badass bug! :0

OMG it was HORRIBLE for me in Daggerfall!
People told me, go to the docks. So I went to the docks. I walked around THIRTY minutes (in numbers 30!), only to find out, the city of Daggerfall had TWO docks! One to the north and one to the south, and I had spent 30 min on the wrong dock.
This just HAS to go. It's the worst way to toss people just into a world. The island was so wonderful, I loved it, and it gave me the feeling, ok I just escaped hell, and now I have to work my way back to civilization. I had a small area to start, to learn the game and get my barings... now I am tossed into some city. It just makes no sense at all.

For years the MMO crowd has bemoaned being pulled around by the hand at the start of these games, what happens when they're not lead around? ""ARRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! Where do I go!!!!!!!!"""

Oh there is a a starter island ? I rolled a dark elf in the middle alignment, did the thing to release the wizard, got off a boat and then i was on my own.
That wasnt the start? I was confused and just stopped playing, i would of enjoyed going through the starter island once then being given the option to skip it, or something tell me im on the starter island would you like to skip it.
In fact i decided nto to buy the game due to the starting expierence i got, maybe ill jump on tonight and try to find the starter island, maybe my impression will change.

What's terrible is I know 2 friends who played this last beta as their first ESO experience. They felt the same way and decided not to pre-order. I now have to do damage control cause I wanted them to play with me.

Such a fail to put you in the main city after coldharbor.
They have created a massive gap in continuity and because of that they have created massive bugs for themselves due to phasing etc that is not very reassuring so close to launch.
They have created this problem for themselves all because some ADHD kids cant spend a couple of hours in the starter zones.
Note to any devs listening, kids that want to skip content do not represent what all the players want.
Would it not be better to sent players to the starter island and then allow them to skip it, instead of auto-skipping it and you need to find your way back? Why did they even do it that way? Makes no sense to me.
Totally agree.
What they've done in game with this change is totally back to front. The starter zones are there primarily for new players, and they're immensely important in that regard as they help them get use to the game and it's mechanics with tailored missions, etcetera etcetera. Or at least that's how it should work.

Ahhhh I get it now.
Before, if you picked alliance and then picked race, it would automatically change alliance.
NOW, and I didn't notice this before, you just pick alliance and then race and then have at it.
Pretty sneaky sis.
