Free to play means a whole lot more people will learn what "No blue bubble" means to their frustration level.

It does, I have the very same mixed feelings...
On one hand it puts an emphasis on the recent events of cutting back and layoffs, it really seems WB is serious about refocusing the assets... I hope it won't lead us all into an infinite gaming crisis
On the other, it's good to see they still have some vision and the will to jump into the unknown. I mean, it worked with DDO (the first bigger game switched to f2p), it can work for AC as well, the first bigger game with officially backed up player servers. I personally think it's a great idea.
Especially if, in the future, it goes beyond the simpe "runnig a server", with "If that works out we can look into releasing tools and data files that would allow players to modify game data and create alternate content for their own Asheron’s Call games." I'm a huge fan of Cryptic's Foundry in STO and Neverwinter, but having direct access to the data files... mmmm... /drool
(and as others already said, it won't go f2p, just dropping the sub for the existing players. Sev also posted it later that it's not for the player influx or drumming up numbers, simply a gift for the loyal fanbase.)
I remember finding the Dr. Who Telephone booth up in the northern mountain area whatever it was called. I also remember no one believing the screenshots i took to be legit. Wonder if anyone ever documented that.
This was my first MMO and I played for about 5 years way back in the day on the Harvestgain server. Dabbled a bit on DT as well but all of my friends at the time were HG.
Loved this game. IMO, it was the best MMO at the time (and still up near the top of the list for me).

Well actually 2 of the original Devs are working on Project Gorgon.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
Kudos Turbine,
always leading true and good MMO industry innovation.
