Do you remember 12-14 years ago ...

IceAgeIceAge Member EpicPosts: 3,203

..when you asked a player "How old are you?" and he answered "30-40" and you felt kinda good, because you were much younger like 19-20?

How do you feel now when someone (19-20 years old)  is asking you the same question? :)

I was about 44 and the first person to ask me how old I was turned out to be a 12 year old girl.

Actually these days I fit in less with the MMO crowd and other things I dabble in.  It used to be bad enough 14 years ago when I was 31.  Now that I am 45... sheesh...  time flies.

What strikes me as particularly funny is when some 16 year old guy hits on me (or rather, a female avatar I happen to be controlling) and I can respond with, "Do you normally flirt with people twice your age?"
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

^^ Same here.  I find my patience is not what it used to be.  I expect expedient typists, intellectual communication, multiple syllables and the like...

Now it's all about, "sup" for hello, and boobs, farts, and pot references.

About at that age where I might have to accept it's over lol.

I've never asked anyone how old they are.  I'm more interested in their maturity. I can find that out for myself.

Regarding the "expedient typists", I like how it takes so long to get a response typed in; and then it's laden with mistakes that they either didn't notice or were too lazy to correct.

I swear, someone should just call up the Dictionary Overlords and ask them to switch the definitions of "lose" and "loose". That would significantly reduce the rate of mistakes found online.

I guess I'm old, but I prefer to think of myself as "classic" :P

    This is my nightmare scenario.

I'm thinking, it's a cop I should troll him for a while, play the player. Then I think, what if it is a 12 year old girl? I'd feel like dirt if I messed with her mind even if she did forget it half an hour later.

I hope when I say my age they react like - wow, that's old. If they didn't they wouldn't be the age they are. I mean, I think 80 sounds old but might not when I'm there. Geez, some people have lived to over 100.

I'm looking forward to parts of aging. I can't wait to be old enough to say whatever I want and suffer no consequences. I'll play helpless old lady to get people to do things for me and if I want to fart, people will just laugh when I do in public. Plus I think grey hair looks cool, I hope to get a skunk stripe in mine to start out with. I'm not looking forward to wearing diapers but hey, everything is discrete now with the internet, I can buy my diapers online lol

If you listen to that wacky physicist Michio Kaku talk about the future, there is a chance that you could be living a lot longer than you want to with the advances in tech as long as you aren't past 60 already. I don't know if I want to be a Futurama head in a jar but maybe, depends on if we can MMO with our lid.

Here's something I think about aging. Ok, if you live at home until you are 18 then your real life has only started since then so that should be your birthdate - before 18 you have someone else making decisions and paying for things etc. Real life is after that when you find your own place in the world without the parents around.

Calm before the storm, sweetheart. You're not going to be liking it so much in another 10-15, and those 10-15 aren't going to last as long as the first or second 10-15.

And as far as Professor Kaku talking about extending life... so did Sagan, no such luck. There's just too much money to be made off the decrepit, why let them live well?

She had some anonymous fallout with mmorpg.com staff and asked to have her personality erased.  Too bad, because she seemed like a really cool cat.

That question rarely ever came up in MMOs, at least in the circles I traveled in. "A/S/L?" was a creepy part of AOL that many of us were glad to flee when we got real ISPs.

Meh, I'm 30 at the moment. When I was younger (19-20) majority of my friends were older than me anyways and as I've gotten older the age range of friends has spread. I regularly hang out with ages 18-56.

So, age doesn't bother me that much really, but maturity does. I like calm and intelligent people, people who I can debate politics with one minute and enjoy a fart joke the next without anyone throwing their toys out the pram.

When I was a guild leader, I did have an 18+ age limit, but it wasn't a strict rule. It weeded out a lot of the younger immature people but I was also conscious about potentially corrupting young people (sounds weird, beyond swearing etc we'd talk about drugs and alcohol, alternative lifestyles etc and I didn't want my guild to be responsible for encouraging a 13 year old to start smoking weed).

That said, our youngest guild member was 11 years old and he was more mature and a better player than a lot of people in their 20s and 30s. Only thing was we'd have to be careful of his bedtime on raiding nights as his Dad was also in our guild!

    That depends on various factors.

When I was playing Ultima Online and Everquest I looked a bit better from a point of looks, but I'm a lot healthier now and feel better.  For a while after my 20s I didn't take care of my health at all. I just played UO/EQ and ate a lot of fast food.  With age comes wisdom for many people or they just give up fighting because they are worn out and just go with the flow of what is a healthier lifestyle.  One of the major reasons I left MMOs is because I don't relate to the crowd anymore.  There is a much more diverse group and IMO they are a lot different in a way that I can't relate to them or don't want to.  I liked it when it was just a small niche community that were fairly like minded.
