Dammit, really?  Here's hoping the Sony VR helm works out.  There's no way Facebook won't screw this up.

Cashed out. While trying not to be to negative. Given the company involved. I will not touch shit put out by this company.

Will it come to pc or console only? I was always a bit skeptical about this whole thing. They still had a bunch of hurdles to overcome. That said I do not have good judgement on such things a lot of the time. Oculus did look like it was taking off.

    Facebook To Be Purchasing Occulus

Zuckerberg says that Facebook will "focus on helping Oculus build out their product and develop partnerships to support more games." But he makes clear that after Oculus sees through its gaming ambitions, Facebook will expand the product into new territory. "We're going to make Oculus a platform for many other experiences. Imagine enjoying a court side seat at a game, studying in a classroom of students and teachers all over the world or consulting with a doctor face-to-face — just by putting on goggles in your home." Zuckerberg equates Oculus to "a new communication platform" and clearly has a vision that extends far beyond the gaming focus that helped Oculus become a smash Kickstarter success.

Sorry for the gif expressions, but this really calls for it all. I'm going to go slam my head and a wall and try to wake up.

Which is only going to be on PS4, not announced for PC at all.

I don't understand how all of you are so confused, this is a fantastic development lending legitimacy to an industry that doesn't even really exist yet.  We have now seen the secured future of VR.

    THIS IS GOOD NEWS.

Until this and Sony announced there was really a bleak future for this market being taken seriously.  This is LITERALLY the light we have all been waiting for.

Please all of you stop and think.

    This is for the best...

We need an evil company to own Occulus or our SAO dreams will never come true.

Probably true, I mean a small company can't handle the distribution or manufacture or development of said technology.

Well an indy company could have, but this would cut years off the entire process.

Why?  morpheus is for PS4 only...

And I quote from your link 'a virtual reality system that expands the world of playstation 4'

You guys do realize there's no 'direction' that occulus could go.  It's VR.  It goes on your face.  It makes stuff look like you are there.

For this to do anything that FB imagines it to do to make them money, it also has to do what gamers want, and to think that somehow games won't work with it for some mysterious reason, is freakin aluminum hat wearing nonsense.

SHIT, this evil globalist scum surveillance crap platform??? WHY? WHY????

GOOD BYE OCULUS you can keep your trash, the dream has DIED for me

Your reaction is the reverse of someone who would be desiring VR to become a real industry.

You aren't really a fan to begin with.  So it's fine that you won't support it.

This reaction makes no sense, just because Facebook bought it doesn't mean that farmville, a game NOT OWNED BY FACEBOOK would be on said VR machine.

    :-(

I'm going to pay 300 dollars to get a Rift headset so I can play a free to play browser game?

    That doesn't make logical sense.

  • Laughing-manLaughing-man Member RarePosts: 3,655

Facebook is letting the Rift development team continue to work, they in essence gave them 2 billion dollars to make sure the thing got finished and when it was done that they got a piece of the pie.  It will not change the product or it's design scope.

Most of you really need a reality check.

Damn sell out company, first they play the friendly "we are different" indies on Kickstarter, then they sell out to this NSA spying platform Crapbook.

Traitors. I am disgusted. Shame on you, Oculus. Enjoy your pact with the devil.

Nobody likes Facebook - While it will push the Oculus in the right direction further, it will only be detoured by facebooks dream for the future of VR: Zuckerberg says that Facebook will "focus on helping Oculus build out their product and develop partnerships to support more games." Reactions from everyone: It's not April fools day yet is it? They must have missed the mark by a week!

Hah! Good One!  *Checks Date* Wait...Wha? It's Real???

Future Hilarious Reactions are the Following, which are legitimate feelings towards OR

its not that facebook will ruin it, if anything with a big backer with money to burn, they can get... more expensive tech.. that we.. will have to pay for on the back end.... price point around 300 became 500 with subscriptions and fees just to develope games with the rift...

this an early April fools right? not even the rift site is saying anything??

They didn't sell out, they didn't betray anyone, please calm down and read the article, I think once you do that you will be a lot happier.

    'NSA spying platform crapbook'?   What?

I'm at a complete loss as to how you could arrive at these conclusions.

I'm so confused, their announcement and Zuckerbergs vision are honestly amazing things, this is life changing for all of us.  This has literally made VR a reality where as before it was a novelty or a joke.

This is exciting news, this is really happening this time.

This isn't like the virtual boy, this isn't some trendy bullshit, this is REALLY HAPPENING.

    And it's amazing.

This just gives Sony all the more reason to bring their VR system to the Desktop.

Also Notch just cancelled Minecraft for the Oculus.

"We were in talks about maybe bringing a version of Minecraft to Oculus. I just cancelled that deal. Facebook creeps me out."

You're missing a perspective. Some hinted at it in this thread. It has everything to do with the company now behind it and little to do with the direction it is heading for some.  You should stop belittling people.
