SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

As the date for the deployment of the next Guild Wars 2 patch that will address core game features nears, the team continues to reveal more of what players can expect. In today's blog post, the team has listed several of the social features that will be enhanced in the game.

  • Guild management tools including last log-in for members

  • Support for guild members to reduce griefing

  • Additional parameters for LFG including searching through WvW for those seeking Mist players, a separate channel for each of the Borderlands, the Eternal Battlegrounds and the Edge of the Mist map

  • For multi-language servers, players will be able to choose a main language group to assist in forming parties, etc.

Check out the full blog on the Guild Wars 2 site.

So a game designed from the ground up so that you'd never need to speak to another player to get anything done is adding more automated group tools to help players socialize better.

Sounds good but how about content that encourages real cooperation beyond just LoS dumb bosses in dungeons. DPS only FTW

All fine and dandy, but the only thing that could really bring me back is if they completely rebuilt the combat, character progression and character customization (build variety), add something into the pvp that makes it even remotely as fun as GvG was in GW1...

But even all that could be too little too late to save this game's pvp...

Anyway all this won't happen, and I'm pretty sure that at least 95% of those that bought GW2 because GW1 pvp was so awesome, are already loooong gone.

I only log in to chat with my guild mates via guild status about the upcoming MMOs that we could perhaps play next...

And funny as it may be, even SWTOR atm offers a better and more satisfying Arena PvP experience than GW2.

Too bad SWTOR's game engine is a steaming pile of sh*t.

Starbucks plans to introduce an automated coffee machine so you dont have to talk to the employees. Socializing depends on people wanting to do it, and the tools will be there in game so..... No mmo can be any social if players dont talk to each other.

"Guild management tools including last log-in for members" it took them almost 2 years xD

also about those who say that LFG is bad, remember that before Anet introduce LFG, there was already one out of game, so dont blame the developers always ...

Oh snap!  Someone got a dose of reality.

Seriously though, in most MMO's, why do you need to talk to each other?  Think about WoW or Rift or TERA, once you know how to play the basics of the game, you queue up into a dungeon and just start doing your job and that now includes Raid Finder where no one even interacts except after a wipe.  The fact that, having played WoW for over half a decade now, the most socializing I see in dungeons seems to happen when someone makes a mistake, yeah, things are fine the way they are.  People rarely have anything good to say when they're "doing" things.  I still see lots of chatter in towns in GW2, most notably Lion's Arch (vigil keep).

I always wonder what similar themepark MMO's require socialization and no one ever gives me a good answer.  You socialize because you want to, not because you have to.

The games need a voice service I use hangouts or Skype but something along those lines

LOL, I got a chuckle from this one.

But seriously though, I have found that in all MMOs I have played. Socialization is on the individual. The guild I am in in GW2 is very social and interacts a lot in TS. I honestly don't think any of this will change much. As I said, this stuff is usually on the individual. Make it easier to socialize and the lone wolves ignore it, Make it harder to socialize and the lone wolves ignore it. The groupers are the same but on the other side of the coin. They will look for groups regardless of the tools.

    You can't code habits.
