FFxiv introduced me to the awesomeness that are subligars, I was wondering if ESO has them. If it doesn't then I predict f2p in (to be filled in at a future date) days/months/years.
On a side note I'm sad to see yet another western mmo that has that annoying robe stuck to legs deal. Ya know, when your epic magic dude Dark Shadow Lord of Doomed Darkness goes for a walk only to have his Robe of Shadow Sparkles not move like a robe should but instead have a very bad static cling issue. That and extreme warping of the texture so it looks unepical.
Also I was wondering Is M'iaq around in eso? I know he just has to be.
Comments
M'iaq the Liar is indeed in ESO.
I found him on the starting island for the Aldamari Dominion.
You'll find M'iaq all around ESO. And no subligars, this is a game with armours and clothing that actually cover the body.
^^This, they go with more realistic clothing and armor.... no Manty Hose.
Reread the actual post, the OP literally says it's a side note, seriously dude.
Anyway.... depending what the person meant not sure how to answer. See video, may not be on ultimate vid settings but robe movement is in there.
Subligars are real armor! Just youtube search for -average lalafell day- for subligar greatness( Is a mature aduiance warning needed for that? I'm not sure. What's her name that made that vid is nuts I think). It's not like full plate hasn't gotten people killed. I know of one battle that was lost because they tried to run across muddy ground in full plate. Didn't work out. Now if they had subligars then maybe the French might have won. Weell maybe not.
On a serious note thanks for the M'aiq info. I made a M'aiq character in FFXiv with most of his sayings macroed.
Static cling robes make me sad. It just annoys me so much I can't use robes in any game if they are stuck to my characters legs. I end up starting in horror at my legs. People have DIED in dungeons if I was healing and had static cling robes.
I hardly see the point of realistic armor while I'm slinging fireballs around.. hardly see the benefit either.
"That lightning strike was a little weak, the air is pretty dry and I'm not very conductive today. Let me put on this metal suit of armor to give you a better chance."
"Fire?! Ha! I'm wearing this full body oven right now, it will never touch me!"
"Good thing I got this full suit of armor on right now, jogging across this whole island would be difficult otherwise"
"I'm a 5'2" 115lb young lady, but this 400lb great sword gives me the intimidation factor."
Honestly.. you realistic morons can take your realism and try applying it to something else. If you want to play the subjective to females card, or this is ESO style... then RIGHT ON, makes perfect sense.
Take that realistic nonsense elsewhere though.
I think you are having problems "understanding'.
the "realistic" part has nothing to do with taking out measuring tools, your calibrators and making sure that each game play element stands up to "real world" counterparts.
It has to do with presenting a compelling world with each part making some sort of sense to the player.
Because otherwise, we don't need ANY armor in the game as all it is, is an art asset.
Some Asian games might allow people to beat each other senseless with flowers. When someone says that the weapons are "realistic" all they mean is that when looking at, say a warrior, one would expect him/her to have a reasonable weapon like a sword as opposed to "a flower".
They certainly understand that "real people" don't fling fireballs. But in a world where people try to bash you with depictions of metal it is "reasonable" to assume that you would have a depiction of armor. And not draped in, say, doilies.
somehow I think you know this but you just wanted to kvetch and make issues. Congratulations for being that guy. And for playing the insulting card. You truly have shown your character.

Of course they will cling. She is shooting lightning out of her hands!
Ever heard of static cling?
Just use a costume you like. That way you can use any armor but still look the way you want.
How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder, without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better, and not the world about them?

Everquest II had flowing cloth robes AND THAT WAS FUCKING TEN YEARS AGO!
*shakes fist*
Sorry. I know you will say, oh look its the hater again... but seriously. Like the OP I am very much into the gear and looks of my character, and it just HORRIFIES me how most armor looks like painted on the skin with stiffness like from 1999. This is just a fashion nightmare. And you can't even dye them! Hello?! When was the last MMO which had no dyeing! That was probably when our grandparents played MMOs!!

No, pink gear will never ruin the dark grit of Tamriel.
Not surprisingly that is exactly the response I expected from someone who thinks full armor makes a high fantasy game "reasonable" and "comparable" to the real world. Your passive aggressive demeanor gets the same point across as calling someone a moron, but in your world it's different then actually doing so..
No, I'm not trying to make issue.. Just get the point across that it is an art style, it is not realistic or reasonable in any way. If having full armor makes you feel better playing this game, that's fine.. just don't misunderstand, you are not any better then someone playing a game with a "flower sword" or with 12 year old girls in doilies killing dragons. Not at all, you are playing a high fantasy game just like them, only difference is the art style.
*clapping* Very well said.
