The stars are used primarily to give you an idea of how long someone has been around on the boards, and how active you are as well. Someone with 4 or 5 stars (sorry for my pompous attitude) like myself has either been around for awhile or is an active poser image.

Yes, the stars serve the same basic purpose that they do on other forums (most forums have some form of ranking) - ours just are based on other factors that we feel are more important than just how many posts you have made...

Also note that they are only based on the last 30 days of data...so old timers need to stay active to keep rank and new users have the same chance at 5 stars after 30 days that anyone does.

As stated above stars are used as a ranking system, as most sites have this we do as well, ours have an indepth curve to them.  They were implemented into the system as a deterrent against bragging and flaming on post counts.  Plus I like them image

Doh ;( And I thought this would be a philosophical thread about the Universe and its purpose.

I guess what they are also saying is that your stars are also your credibility as a poster. Someone who constantly posts things that get deleted is probably not contributing information to the community in a positive manner. I'm not trying to say anything negative about you Gunblade, I'm just trying to interpret and understand the ranking system (which sounds a little more involved then other boards, I like it!)

We actually permit a certain level of swearing.  If it is excessive, out of context, or pointed in the direction of another member it gets deleted.  Any attack on another member should get deleted, although I know they all don't.
