OP, If you had been on these forums as of the past two years, You would find that 70% of the posters here are free loaders.

And the only reason they play mmorpg's is because it's one of the only ways to get games totally free.  All you have to do is bounce from one to another when it becomes time to pay anything !

I'm holding off because my friends and I decided to wait until some bugs are fixed, however I'm not sure if I could wait like they can.....I may take you up on that.

Well, with the upcomming console release, and the fact that is the first true AAA MMO developed for consoles...

those freeloaders might be surprised, the fact of a real MMO on consoles alone and the game being high quallity will make this game the most succesfull MMO since WoW..   If the quallity is right, people willpay for a game..  And so far the enthralling immersiveness of the game seems to work for a whole truckload of people..

There is not going to be any f2p any time soon....

It has to go B2P like GW2, not F2P.  Since it has a console release, they can not mark that down to $0.

    Don't believe me?  Go Look.

Buy your game directly from Zenimax and play right freaking now.  No codes to wait for, update is instant.  If you are patched you  can pop right over and log right in.

Because I just read in another thread that someone capped in less than a day.

The fact that is made for console is enough to wait, maybe at a sale in a year or two I could give it a try. It has nothing to do with the game being p2p but with their marketing tactics, lack of an immersive game world (loading screens every 3 m is immersion only if you are used to console games),console type controls,no ah,megaserver destroying communities outside of guilds, not much in common with Elder Scrolls game beside title and lore. For quality of this game to be right as you say it should offer something better than what's available (p2p or f2p) and TESO is not doing that for me, just a rehash of other games and lot of limitations, probably because of developers want to sell on consoles too.

People say that exact same thing with every p2p game that releases..  Good luck :)  I really do hope it stays sub based.

The game won't go f2p imho. Reason is it has such a huge fanbase and is a great game. Sure, there will be a lot of people who quit after the first month, every game has that, but it will still hold a huge niche base of players. FFXIV:ARR is a good example of this.

Anyway, I will definitely pay the sub for this game. Once the curious players leave, and the hardcore ES players are left, it will be worth every penny.

FFXIV ARR has in house publishers and investors.

Is that the same for ESO? by the way even YOSHI is open to F2P and is considering F2P as an option.

Huge fanbase and a great game..two things which has never stopped a MMO going F2P befoe. You guys need to touch base with reality and never say never.

In most cases people here use f2p as a way to describe a game as going to fail, and then having to go to that format. For those of you that are not real flexible, I will rephrase what I said. The game won't go f2p imho because of failure. The same was said about FFXIV ARR and it is slowly closing in on a year since it's release.  If either of these games do change its subscription format, it will not be because the games have failed.

I'm waiting because the only thing that interested me about TESO is AvA, but I'm not sold that it will in the end be a better version of RvR than we saw in WAR and GW 2. I don't want to spend $60+$15/month after the free month and do several months of boring PvE (I only really have time to play 1-2 hours a day) only to find out AvA is fail just like the RvR in those games. For once I am being patient and waiting to see what others say about a new PvE MMO that also has RvR after they have enough time playing it in the live game to have a legitimate opinion on how it works.

If only AvA would be as fun as WAR in tiers 1-3 I would buy the game right now but it will be more like a bigger WvWvW area in GW2,with more running and no faction pride at all. While WAR had a lot of problems at least it had factions with different styles, classes and not a blue vs red type of pvp with players from all factions in same guilds etc.

Haha, you crack me up. Haters are going to hate so just ignore them. I seriously doubt that TESO will become free to play in 3 months.

Anyways I haven't done any research on the game before I bought it but even I knew that the standard edition from Zenimax comes with 5 days early access. I found out that when I was researching where to buy it from. I still bought it from a different place cause I saved almost 30-40% off the price by buying it retail. Thought the two extra days were not worth it.

First of all it is too early to declare ESO a success or failure. It is a P2P MMO and its success isn't based on number of boxes sold. Long term retention is what makes P2P success.

Secondly, like i said earlier. SE are the investors of FFXIV so they can dictate their own terms. If Zenimax also has in house investors they can avoid going F2P.

It is not about success or failure but how long investors can wait to get their money back.

O we missed one PSP2 and if you count the East then PSP2I  , which incidently was the best version of PSU but only in the East.

So I'd say yeah, not even close.

Didn't really like the game overall in beta although there were a few things I liked. So I am still in a wait and see with the game. Although with my distaste of the combat and animations I might not play it.

    PSO wasn't really an mmo.

    Yes, yes it was.

And it is considered so by pretty much every gaming site or online encyclopedia.

You are correct , I played it for 2 years on the DC and for 2 years on the GC and I tell you one thing it wouldn't have taken 18 hours to get to max level. It took me almost a month to get a character to level 100 ( the max was 200 ). It was probably the best MMO experience ever.

Actually it can go completely F2P on console. SOE did it with DCUO. It's free to download and free to play. So ESO can. Personally, I think it will in roughly a year's time, not 3 months. I don't think console players are going to jump onto the buy-and-sub model very well. Game play not withstanding (I think ESO is garbage, but that's just my grumpy opinion. Other folks think it's the second coming, which is great for them. Everyone's mileage will vary). Time will tell.

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

    Really? Name a few more....

    What do you call DC:UO?

I dunno...what should I call it? Besides a true AAA MMO. Now...name a few more....since what Lord said was "not even close". There must be MANY that have been made already.

You know that even the original EverQuest was on consoles, right? PS2. That was in 2003. So it's true, "not even close."

Also DC:UO, as was said, FFXI, FFXIV, Defiance,  and possibly more. Can include Free Realms, as well, if you wanna, but that's more of a kiddy mmo.

I had imperial edition pre-purchased and then I asked for a refund. I was stoked for the game. Some of the ways Zenimax is handling preorders irked me so I decided to wait it out. I get the feeling that they are not sure about the state of sub model going forward. Having a deadline two days after release to enter key was the final straw. The way it read was that all the imperial edition itemsperks were going to be invalid if you enter the key 3 days afterwards. It seemed like they pushed so hard to get people to preorder because they are not sure if the retention rate will be enough to keep the model. It may not even be remotely like that but that is what it looked like to me. Appearances are everything!

Cause I pre-ordered from stinkin wal-mart that's why. And I damn sure want to start playing asap while I can still pay a subscription fee for a quality game cause when it goes free to play I won't touch it with a 10 foot pole with a rubber snake on the end. Free to play has destroyed all that was once good in this world!

I believe to say any MMO will never go F2P (or, at the very least, B2P) is a fallacy.  WoW/EvE doesn't have to- they have their fanbase rusted in at this point.  (Most of)These people have been subbing since they started playing, and will happily continue to keep subbing.

ESO will go F2P (or, again, at the very least, B2P).  Not in three months- there's still plenty of cash to rake in, the "hype" is still waifing in the air.  Wildstar will go F2P (or, at the very least, B2P).

Knowing this, I still happily pre-ordered Wildstar (not an ESO fan, but hey, if you like it, you like it).  I pre-ordered TSW when it was first releasing, knowing full well it would go F2P (or, at the very least, B2P).  Unfortunately, with where we are in humanity, and with our attention spans getting smaller and smaller thanks to having access to everything at any given time, people drift like that bag in the Katy Perry music video.

I'd say, if you like ESO/Wildstar, pre-order, show your support.  It may help.  But honestly, don't expect anything but what you get- not "they say in two updates they'll be adding..." or "This feature is about to release..." With any Game (MMO or not), you'll more than likely be letdown by purchasing something with your sights down the road, not what's given to you in-hand.

I'd also like to point out, it's ridiculous to get peeved over a game going F2P after you purchased a Lifetime Sub.  That's your bad- not their bad.

This is one of the reasons I am not paying for another ThemePark MMO. Why would you pay a sub fee and, in the future, an in game cash shop for what is basically a single player game.

Sure there is some PvP and raiding thrown in there, but you will likely spend the majority of the time, soloing. So why not just then play a single player game.

I am going to get Witcher 2, never got around to play that game, and play it while I wait for a real MMO to be released.
