Which game is the best........

With Each new game comes a new feature, but also a good old feature was lost.

Dark Age of Camelot brought us RvR,  but lost depth of quests and anything other than camping.

Sims Online brought us the feature of Sucking but lost the great feature of bieng good.

EQ brought us the feature of an ever expanding world, with thousands of quests, multiple races, and numerable classes.

Asherons Call brought us great graphics but lost class variety.

Which brought us something new without losing somthing great?

Honestly, I would not call any game the best.  That is completely left to the opinion of each and every gamer as far as what he or she likes.

Personally, I played Everquest for four years.  It has been by far the most stable and expanding game I have played.  I have tried UO, AO, AC, DAoC, SWG and a few little ones that simply did not grab me the way in which EQ did.  Why did I leave EQ?  I just grew tired of it.  I suppose playing a game for four years will do that.  It had nothing to do with it losing anything.  I just finally lost interest.

I am currently looking forward to Horizons.  I am certainly not discounting Everqest 2, though my last experience with Sony (SWG) doesn't give me great hope.

DAoC i think is a pretty good mmorpg if you ask me. There was lots of classes to play, newbie friendly. I haven't even tried BG or RvR but im pretty sure it will rock. Of course there is tons of things i wish it had, like more content, and better quests.

I am currently looking forward to EQ2 or WoW.

My home is my castle. (The game I am at any given moment is the best game for me image)

UO Best MMORPG Ever, hands down, there will never be a game that can compare to what uo was... never, unless they re-release uo like it was in 98-99

EQ is the best imo, though like it was said before they are just opinions based on what each person treasures in a game.

Personely I feel WW2online is by far the best because of what it has brought to the online communities.

    Not graphics

    Not Roleplaying

    Not First person Shooter

But a game that does get the adrenaline flowing for real, and now due to the improvments made it gets you deeper involved in the sence of a online combat enviorment.

It has also brought the meaning of Teamwork to its fullest for a online game, sure 10 , 12 or ven 20 players can work as a team to try and storm a castle in DAOC, but what ww2online brings is a teambased play that involves from 100s of players down to a team of sappers trying to takeout a forward base.

and most of all, if you have significant others, be prepared to either see a divorce lawyer or staying at home on a friday or saturday night, its very addictive, even after 2 1/2 years of playing, ( tried other games as a break from ww2online but non compares to the dynamics this game offers ).

It's all preference. From what I've seen in FFXI so far, it's in my opinion the best there is. Unfortunately with MMORPGs you need to test it yourself to see what you like, that can be expensive if your picky =)

Please people. can't you EVER get the point.  You cannot ask which game is the best. This subject has been gone over by like everyone soo many times.  Everyone has a different type of game they like, so you can't just go around and ask people what game is the best, because most of the time everyone would say different.  I only have one thing to add though, if anyone, I repeat anyone, says they like the game because of it's amazing graphics, most of the time, there is something bad about the actual gameplay because of the concentration of the games developers on the graphics and not the games content.

    Liammccarthy,

I think people actually DO get the point. They are wanting exactly what we are giving them - our opinion of what the best game is. So what's wrong with throwing our educated subjective experiences out there for people and help them decide what game might be best for them? Some of us have played tens of MMORPGs and know good ones from bad ones, as well as what to look for in a good game.

In my opinion, this is what a discussion area like this is for - discussion.

All the current mmorpg's have their good points and their bad points. While i may say i like EQ better then DAoC there are others who like DAoC better then EQ. Its all personel opinion so one cant really rely on others opinions about what is best. It all comes down to trial and error to determine what you like best.

In my opinion, its what you yourself like to play, only you no what your looking for in a game.  Play what you want and play hard.

It's pretty hard to say which MMOG is best.  Each one has some big plusses and some big minuses.  There are some features each has that are worth mentioning, though.  I haven't played them all, but I've played quite a few.

EverQuest is a MMOG I think any serious MMOG player needs to have at least a month in.  It's got the best mob encounter system in any MMOG I've played.  The depth and quality of the encounters, especially at the higher levels (not to mention raiding) are unmatched.  The game is very mature, heavily vetted, and has enormous coverage that allows you to really get to investigate.  You can easily lose your job, flunk out of school, or divorce your spouse playing this game...so watch it.

Ultima Online is really worth trying if you care to give it a shot.  The crafting system is still one of the best you can find, it has plenty of interesting encounters, and it set the stage for a lot of things that MMOGs are still trying to do better (player house, crafting, travel, etc...).  I still pine for my house, my Grandmaster tradeskillers, and my Recall runes...oh how I miss my runebooks.  The engine is just so damned old...if you can stand it, it's worth playing.  Fond, fond memories of that game.

Anarchy Online had a pretty brutal release.  I was there for beta and release and it was too much.  There's a good example of a game that suffered some hits to subsciber base due to poor release.  But the game has since grown up a lot.  The Shadowlands release really added a huge dimension of gameplay to the game...it's almost like a new game altogether.  I think their Missions are some of the most compelling gameplay in MMOGs...it's like MFing in Diablo2: highly addictive.  Lots of choice to make, plenty of tradeskills and quests.  Another year and I think it will be even better, and the engine still looks good.  Very worthwhile game to try.  Only knock I still have on the game is that it still seems a bit sparse and lonely out there.

I tried AC and AC2 both, but neither stuck with me.  AC was simply too, how should I put it...thin.  I couldn't stand the magic system, and the graphics were too cartoony for me at the time.  Compared to EQ or AO I just didn't see a reason to play it.  AC2 improved the graphics quite a bit, and it has a great hit-the-ground-running skill system that was easy to start with.  But the world is empty.  Flat out boring to play a game that prefers group play where you have a hard time find people.  I think Turbine and Microsoft really shot themselves in the foot releasing a second generation of the game so close to the first...but that's water under the bridge.  Maybe AC2 will have more to offer in the future.

I never did try SWG or DAoC.  SWG didn't interest me...too much hype.  And with my experiences with PvP being nothing but negative I didn't really want to get into the Realms warfare of DAoC...and by all accounts, that's where it's at in that game.  So I can't really comment on either.

I'm a huge devotee of A Tale in the Desert.  One of the most unique game systems you can possibly encounter, and the Devs are more accessible than any game I've ever played...even more than some of the old MUDs I played in the mid-90s.  Superb playerbase, highly mature and cooperative.  The game isn't for everyone, but anyone with a love for the Impressions games (Zeus, Pharaoh, etc...) and SimCity/Civilization style games would be foolish to not try it out.

On a sad note, I'm really sorry to see Rubies of Eventide sink.  They really captured the feeling of a MUD faithfully and had a lot of promise.

    R O F L !

That is hilarious, Kaddor!  Take a bow!

I'd say UO brought a ton of good things without losing anything, simply because there was nothing to lose, it being the first "modern" MMOG.  I think DAoC was/is great, but it did lose the large landscapes of its predecessors.
