Starter Islands don't skip'em

RazankaRazanka Member UncommonPosts: 67
I really didn't realize how much exp you get from them. I usually do them but Ive done them so many times I just decided  to roll a new character and start my journey.  Skipping the islands got me stuck at lvl 6 doing lvl 9 quests and getting face rolled by the mobs. So if you skip the islands run in a group because if you solo you will die a lot.

Yes, I agree.. stay on the starter island!

Explore and complete multiple quests on the starter. It is tempting to go out and discover, but it won’t be of any use if you go without gaining experience first

Gain some easy experience at public dungeons, so many players are there to help each other, you'll gain experience fast.

I'm doing the islands right now cause I want to experience this game in its entirety. I'm having lots of fun and don't feel like I'm on rails.

and dont skip the tutorial. you will miss some weapons and stuff. had that problem with my NB. wanted to go 2 weapon style but didnt find any nor could i afford buying them. had to run around with a bow instead but i didnt want to.

yeah, and you wont have any lockpicks and there are a lot of chests on the starter island.

If you want to skip, do this, join the mages and fighters guild first off, this nets you around 50g. Don't forget to open all the book cases for some skillpoints.

Open the urn in your inventory, it will give you a weapon and armor piece (chest and bow). Wear the chest, sell the bow.

You can now buy some lockpicks, around 10 allows you to break a few without running out before you find new ones. Don't want to find a rare chest and then not have any lockpicks on you do you?

Go to the bank and loot ALL the bags and furniture, there tend to be lots around the banker.

I would recommend to do the starter islands eventually for the skyshards at least but if you do the city quests first, you will gain a bit of XP and skill before heading out, making the Islands a bit faster.

If you have a group, you are better off skipping the starter islands IF you want to level quickly. The reason being is that the exp boost from doing quests and killing mobs 3level+ above you is INSANE

    Buying weapons?

Craft weapons - it's ridiculously easy in ESO -

    1. mine the resource (anyone can do it, don't need any tools)

    2. refine the materials at crafting station

    3. Create weapon for your level (hit + sign to increase crafted weapon level)

You don't have to spend ANY points for low level weapons and armor - just gather ore/wood/jute while questing - it takes no time to do.

Wasnt for me. Dont forget, i am an noob, and doing the tutorial is easier and faster than doing what you say. Its not like you start the game and already know everything about crafting. And what you forget, you also need a racial stone. It took its time to find the first one. Or are the stones only necessary for armor?

Making the islands optional was beyond retarded. They seem to imply that they are optional when you start the game, but right around the time you are high enough that it wouldn't be challenging to go back, you have the choice of going back, or suffering for the next ~40 hours of gameplay because you are behind 2-3 levels for EVERY quest.

Fix to this would be increase mob exp... really hate that i have to stay on a perfect railroad track of quests and only do each dungeon once to get decent exp.

tldr. let me fucking farm something PLEASE!?

Totally agree with OP, you should NOT skip the starter islands.

If they wanted to make them optional they should have made you wake up ON the starter island and then have an NPC say "we are going to x city do you want to come with now, or stay here and recuperate a while" or something similar.

I skipped once on an alt, arrived in town with zero gold, no armor, and no weapons.  It kinda sucked.  I remade him, went through starter island, and came out at level 4, with plenty of gold, several weapons and armor pieces, and bag full of items I could craft.  One thing many don't realize is you can craft, say cook up some food & potions, then sell them back to the vendors for gold.  So picking things up aren't a waste of time at all.

I do agree with OP, do the starter island.  It's easy to do, and rewarding.  That is of course you're one of those min/maxers with solid pre-made groups, then the starter island probably do not apply to you.
