The Darkfall: Unholy Wars Facebook page has been updated with a comprehensive post that lays out the details for the next patch that is scheduled to be released on or around April 7th. Players can expect some interesting changes with a tax levy system, an area of influence feature and changes to the feats window as part of an ongoing update to the game's GUI.
Areas of Influence
You have caught glimpses of it in our Facebook posts and our developers have shared some details about how it works. Essentially, this is the basis of the whole territory control system. All control points that can be captured (holdings, villages and sea fortresses) have an area attached to them and the clan that owns the control point is considered the owner of the area of influence around it as well. On its own, this system offers a visual element to the map so that anyone can have an overview of what and how many territories are owned by which clans. Its true potential lies in the features that are tied to it.

Week of April 7th*
Anyway, I'm pretty pumped. They're slowly but surely making the game better. They've added/fixed a ton over the past year.
Lots of people still play this. Sure the population is the lowest it's probably ever been, but more than enough people are left to have more fun than in the current crop of mmo's. Last night someone had dropped a late night siege on our hamlet at 2 AM and 25-30ish people on each side showed up.
Not many mmo's can stand up to Darkfall's feature list, but then again, not many MMO's out there that cater to the hardcore gamer.
The problem is that the population is the lowest it's ever been like you stated. I went back and tried to play it again just in hopes that maybe people were coming back but it didn't seem like it. Adventurine could do so much better by advertising the game and trying to do steam deals again and maybe even offer free time again for people to come back and try it.
It's kind of hard to market when every post is somebody shitting on the game, even though it's a great game.
Well the population is not low enough for you to farm scott-free without getting ganked. Sieges, at least on NA, are happening quite often. Lots to do, at least for me. If people want to play this game, it's really there loss.
Who knows, maybe some of the ESO people will tire of their inferior pvp model and play a superior pvp model in Darkfall. Territory control is going to bring back a lot of old players, and hopefully a few new ones as well.
I'm playing Darkfall and I don't even pvp. I like the crafting and harvesting and the low population. For one thing 50 people aren't trying to harvest the same tree. And I am able to sell what I harvested so there must be enough people out there making gold to need stuff and to buy the stuff. Much prefer DF:UW to DF1.
And please don't bad mouth ESO. MMORPG will ban you for the truth.
Better. It's hard to tell how much better because I've been playing pretty consistently since launch. They've fixed things like load lag (for the most part) and party lag.
