Yup just letting anyone intrested in SL take a look this guy puts them all over the game sometimes signs that are 10 times bigger then your lot. So just for your info next time you want to buy SL think again.

You're right, those signs are annoying because so many Americans are practically illiterate. What they need are photos of dead Iraqis, especially children, and dead American soldiers. Maybe then they would have some impact. Nevertheless, I give the guy credit for trying.

Sadly to say, this guy has not gone away, and for some reason, he's not easily shaken off. And yes, he has around a thousand locations where he posts his signs.

There are alternatives — look the other way, spend time on places where he cannot go (planned communities, private islands) — but I agree that none of the alternatives are very good.

Still, it's hard to judge a community of 105,000 just by a single member who is earning quite a large amount of money by this scheme. You see, to get him to go away, you have to buy the land where he het up his signs — for a huge amount (you're free to set the price on land you own). With that money he pays his monthly fees and buys even more land. So it's blackmail through harassment — pay me, I'll go away, and buy some more land elsewhere.

Don't be so naive as to think he has any political message to spread. All he does is making money — more every day, as people get more and more annoyed, and are willing to spend huge amounts just to get rid of him near their plots — thus making him richer, and able to buy even more land :-( It's hopeless.

Why Linden Lab allows this to happen (when they have taken steps in so many cases in the past...) is a mystery to most. I suspect he has good, real-life lawyers, that have threatened to sue Linden Lab in case he's banned and his signs removed. There must be a reason.

    Hi,

this is what comes with free speach. But as long as he post the sign of land he owns or got the acknowlege of the landowner he is good to do whatever he wants.

I must say this is what i enjoyed most about SL. If you own your land, do what YOU like.

I once bought a beach, surrounded it with big walls, made an entry where everyone had to accept the rules that he might see nudity and when he entered, he was on a virtual nudity beach..

  • GwynethGwyneth Member Posts: 66

"Free speech" is not an absolute: take a look at the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. You'll see that Article 19 gives you the right of free speech, as expected. But people tend to forget articles 29 and 30: you cannot use any articles on the Declaration as a legitimisation of overriding other people's rights; and everyone has duties to the community.

Put into another words: if the community is bothered by your "exercize of free speech", you don't have more "right" to free speech than to neglect the communities' duties. Both articles have the "same" value. When at odds as in this case, you cannot chose one article over the other.

But I understand this is mostly an ethical/legal problem; my point is only that there are no "absolutes". Free speech and the duty to respect the community are on the same level; you cannot say one is "more important" than the other, both are equally important!

Your example is very different. In Mature areas of SL, nudity is allowed. But you go an extra step: being conscious of your duties to the community, you do two things:
    - wall off the space of the nudity beach (so as to protect intimacy inside, and also to cover nudity for those offended by it — although you're allowed to be naked in Mature areas)
    - you warn people about what they can expect beyond those walls.

I find your attitude a very respectful one towards the community. You would have the right to set up your nudity beach anyway (Community Standards would allow it!), but you felt your duty to warn people about it and even give some "protection" from nudity. That is a very decent attitude!

Like anyone gives a shit what the UN says. As if they have any real power. ::::29::

  • GwynethGwyneth Member Posts: 66

LOL, completely off-topic comment, GeneralDoli, but well, you happen to be half-right.

Some of us do respect the UN — about a billion people or so, I'd say. But that's not everybody, of course — so you're right :)

The funny thing is, nearly everyone I've met that "hates Bush" knows nothing of Politics.

If Bush was in control of everything that goes on with this country, the government would be considered a monarchy or tyranny. This is something the U.S. is not.

The United States is solely a Democracy, therefore most of the decisions for the Country have to be run through Congress and recieve a 2/3 vote. Now the next time you kiddies bash Bush, keep that in mind, and for the love of God, have a good reason to hate him.

It's probably more of an Oligarchy.  The political parties decide who runs and the people select from the listed canidates.

BUT YEAH.....  People must remember that both major political parties supported the war in Iraq, NAFTA, and many other things Americans find disagreeable.  Also Kerry's line was "Peace With Honor" not, I'm going to withdraw troops right away...

Add to that the fact that almost 40% of the electorate did not vote in the presidential election and the fact that only about 30% of the electorate usually vote in congressional elections, calling this country a democracy is questionable at best.  It is more of an oligarchy controlled by political parties.  Oh and the fact that fellons perminately lose the right to vote in some states (and yet are still taxed) and that we rather have quick one day elections then give people a week or month to cast a ballot...  I could go on all day, I'll just cut it here.

Oh and in Illinois I could not vote for Nader, the two major parties would not put him, or many other minor political parties, on the ballot.  I had to vote Liberatarian and I'm more of an Anarchio-Syndicalist then a liberatarian.

BTW-  And I hate Bush because he is a spoiled brat that Daddy set up through out his entire life: he was a horrible CEO, a horrible governer, and is a pathetic president (Dam, 6 pathetic presidents in a row.  Atleast Nixon was a "Machiavellian" Character...).

(I promise to never make another political post here again, just a little pent up anger.  Oh and Bono is full of crap!  He sets up sweatshops he profits from in the third world, the dammed SOB!)

Wait.. are you stupid? (I'm not really asking.. so don't answer this)

We all have great reasions to hate him.

And you forget that he once said that if this country was a Dictatorship.. he would get things done alot faster

You kinda know how he completely lied to get things done.. and I find it strange that hardly anyone is upset.

I find it sad that everyone doesn't know that Billionar Oil Barons are running the country

    Hello

I hate bush becouse in retrospect  I  am beginng to feel that Ronald Rayguns was not such a bad guy after all.

    oh
and becouse he took a moment in history where he could have united the
country, and instead seperated us more. Becouse He found very creative
ways to invlove us in Iraq.  Becouse he has  alt. enviromental plans
that where developed by minning and loggin companies. AND becouse i
have always felt that we did not live up to our potential as 'dumb
    Americans."

While you find signs of impeach bush you will find pro bush posters as well. It's not a big deal, most of those signs are in undeveloped areas.

Well, enjoy it. Now Second Life doesn't even require any validation whatsoever to create a new account (it used a credit card and/or SMS validation of your identity, even if it was free to join).
