ArcheAge: New FAQ Addresses Most Common Questions

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

A new FAQ has appeared on Trion's version of ArcheAge. The FAQ seeks to answer the most common questions that players have about the game, including alpha access, regional issues and much, much more.

What does “localization” mean in terms of ArcheAge?

ArcheAge’s localization involves more than just translation from Korean into English, French, and German! It’s also about tweaking the content to ensure that the lore and jokes are appropriate for Western audiences. Some of the jokes that make sense in Korea don’t translate that well for Western audiences, so we adjust them to keep the humor. One of the challenges with localizing from Korean is that the language structure is very different from English, French, or German. The game is localized into English first, and then the edited text is translated into French and German. It makes the whole process take a bit longer, but the result is so much better!

Read the full FAQ on the ArcheAge page.

Well this is somewhat refreshing to hear, hopefully they make the BEST choices for western audiences and what the playerbase over here wants.

    Release 2014 for sure :)

Alpha seems to be around the corner.

What i understand, there should be some open beta phases to test the infrastructure things before the open beta starts.

They said, this 9 months lasting year will lead to release in the west :D

"We are eager to bring ArcheAge to you as soon as possible! We’re about to start our Alpha test phase"

    This is so ridiculous.

Isn't "FAQ" already defined as "most common questions" ?

Way to slap a tautology into the title, repeating basically the same thing twice in the title.

    ;)

Why to have alpha when the game is released already? Seriously.

To test infrastructure, changes that were made during localization, and so on.  Just because its released in other regions doesn't mean its going to be bug free here.

As to why Alpha and not just straight to Beta, the Alpha is under NDA the closed/open Beta will not be.  So if there are any ground breaking bugs in Alpha they don't have to worry about people spreading unneeded panic.

I think it goes a little beyond using google translate when you localize a game...

Can't be that much since private servers for games pop up faster then companies can localize them.

Have you seen the translations disasters done by some companies when they translate their games into English? Bright side is some of those efforts have given us great memes like "All your base are belong to us" image

Comparing current translation technology to a game translated 22 years ago ... makes a lot of sense.

It was a light-hearted comment. Jeez. No time or inclination to argue about something as silly. Boy, some people really need to lighten up a bit....
