  You get beta by signing up at the games website and hoping to get picked or through some contests here on mmorpg.com.

  You don't have to pay monthly for beta.

  Not sure about which game you'r talking about, but in generel you can sign up for beta's on the official gamesite and with some luck you get selected.

  Of course, you will have to test the game then and report bugs to the developer, but you won't have to pay a monthly fee.

  The chances are different for each game, why not give it a try yourself:

  And you can not beta test a game once it goes retail.
