[Preview] EVE Online: VR Dogfighting IN SPACE

I’ll admit that I have a peculiar fascination with the EVE franchise, even though I’ve yet to partake in anything related to EVE Online first-hand.  There’s something decidedly hardcore about CCP Games’ flagship title that speaks to me, and although Dust 514 didn’t turn out so excitingly, the spinoff certainly still piqued my interest.

Sigh. Totally uninterested in VR until they fix the eye strain issues.

    And the Facebook issue.

From what I understand, the new Crystal Cove dev kit is much easier on the eyes than the original DK1. The Consumer release itself will probably improve even further.

Yeah with the Facebook acquisition, Project Morpheous and the ps4 are were I'm placing my hope for Eve Valkerie.

"Large corporation acquires oculus, only willingly to trust a large corporation that copied oculus..."??? The foolishness is increasingly tiring.

I for one remain excited about the future and continue developing for the Oculus Rift.  Looking forward to trying Valkyrie out as soon as I can.

Wow. What a bummer. I was somewhat psyched (no not Star Citizen psyched) about this title until you dropped the always forward momentum bombshell. I no longer have ANY interest in playing this.

VR is indeed interesting but I for one wish that this company could focus on finally releasing WoDO instead.

Sure, I will buy an occulus even if they are owned by FB. I still see greater potential for me personally in Wodo than in a Eve based VR space combat shooter.

You see comments like this, and its like people think developers sit at home doing nothing thinking "oh that eye strain stops my product working, but Ill just leave it in".

Of course they are working on, they have said that hundreds of time, and its almost gone in the latest.

The acid test will be to compare Elite: Dangerous with Valkyrie - they should both be out at roughly the same time.

I know they're working on it but I suffer from severe motion sickness. Thought there was going to be a dogfightning EVE game but I don't want to get involved in OR and I don't own a PS4.

Why is 'IN SPACE' capitalized? Where else is dogfighting in EVE going to happen, in a giant pool of translucent gravy?!?

God knows it's not going to involve walking around in stations or anything revolutionary like that. Also, unless they actually plan to implement skill-based space combat of this sort into the core game, I'm not interested.

AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

Actually space in eve is like 'a pool of gravy' as it resists the forward thrust of your engines

turn em off and you stop

no Newtonian physics in eve, move along space-flight-sim purists you won't like it.

Yeh that's too bad.  I wish someone would do an I-War MMO.

It is not a thrust gauge. Its a speed setting. So when you set your speed to 0 your ship stops. Duh!

I think they are talking about ACTUAL physics of momentum in space, not the arcade style thruster setup. Most like real style momentum in space because you can pull of a lot more tricks with that system than the thruster system, like traveling in reverse while your ship is facing the other way firing.

You do know that if you cut your thrust in real space you dont just stop right?

Yes. But you see in EVE you actually DO move like a vector with a direction and speed, like in real space. As guns are omnidirectional the actual facing of your ship does not matter, thus the POD representation to the ship to the pilot reflects the vector of movement for easy comprehension. Just like it plays sound to the pilot to make full use of the pilots senses, allthough space does not carry sound.

And yes: That is actual EVE lore.
