Can't wait. I would say this game is finally at a kinda finished launch ready state, with this patch...other than the missing schools and I'm not sure if they are ever going to be in.
In our upcoming patch, Darkfall Unholy Wars takes a massive step towards the endgame via exciting new territory-control features, as we refocus on our sandbox PvP and massive-battles heritage.
TERRITORY CONTROL PATCH NEXT WEEK
Territory ownership taps into Darkfall Unholy Wars strategic and political potential and will be the driving force of massive battles to gain control over highly contested areas. These sandbox features are based on the implementation of large, complex, scalable systems we will continuously expand on. Your feedback on the territory ownership features is extremely valuable to us and we are committed to reacting swiftly to your reports to make any necessary adjustments and improvements. Here is what we have in store for you in next weeks patch:
Areas of Influence
You have caught glimpses of them in our Facebook posts and our developers have shared some details about how they work. Essentially, this is the basis of the whole territory control system. All control points that can be captured (holdings, villages and sea fortresses) have an area attached to them and the clan that owns the control point is considered the owner of the area of influence around it as well. On its own, this system offers a visual element to the map so that anyone can have an overview of what and how many territories are owned by which clans. Its true potential lies in the features that are tied to it.
Area Bonuses
Each area offers a set of buffs to clan members and allies of the owning clan, who operate within the area of influence. These buffs have to do with prowess generation rates, rare item drop chances from harvesting and monster-killing as well as gold generation. These buffs stack in the case of connected areas, so expanding your territory by conquering neighboring ones will yield the best results.
Levy Collector
A form of taxation on generated resources in a clans area of influence is another feature that next weeks patch brings. . Resources generated in an area will also fill up the levy collector of that area. While this is a taxation mechanic conceptually, no resources are actually deprived from the harvester or monster-killer. Instead, there is a chance for extra resources to be generated and placed in the levy collector inventory. Normal harvesting and monster-killing, as well as village requisitioning are actions that generate these extra resources at this point. While filling up, the collector cannot be interacted with by anyone. Its important to note here that while the Levy collector building is close to a clan holding (cities and hamlets), it does not technically belong to it. Because of this it cannot be damaged and it does not need to be built like other clan buildings. Once it is full with resources, the structure becomes available for requisitioning. The requisitioning mechanic is exactly the same as the one that is used for villages. The same rules apply and you will still need a requisitioning gauntlet as well as globules of greed. The fill progress of all levy collectors is displayed on the map for all to see but since it is player activity based, there is no timer.
Feat window and feats
We have also shared images of the new feat window. Redesigning this element is part of an ongoing process of improving our GUI elements with availability of information and intuitiveness in mind. Additionally we are introducing a first round of PvE repeatable feats to serve as daily and weekly goals for players of all experience levels.
Additionally, this patch features some loot adjustments for some of our top tier monsters, new masks and various bug fixes and tweaks. We will be sharing the patch notes with you on patch day so stand by for specifics.

I'll dump it in case others have questions, like me.http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/6210379#6210379This does look pretty cool.Does this game sell game cards anywhere or is it all pay to steam or the company?
The devs have been communicating a lot more lately and Mass just posted this tidbit which answers your question.
Loot includes pve, harvesting and villages. I'll share a little bit of info...
Levy collectors fill from all resource generating activities within a clans territory... activity in any territory that is connected, via adjoining borders, to a levy collector, has a chance to fill that collector... if a clan owns a large territory, with multiple levy collectors, activities throughout their empire will have a chance to fill any of the levy collectors, within those connected territories...
Activities that can fill levy collectors include harvesting, village capture and requisitioning, fortress capture, chest loot, map rewards and monster loot...
Levy collectors have a fixed capacity, and fill entirely based on player activity in the connected territories... they have no timers attached to them, and will not fill if there is no activity nearby...
And levy collectors favour active sources of resources, and rare items... these have a greater chance of being added to the collector than basic items, or those generated by passive activities...
First step AV takes towards a real sandbox. About time... Does look good, but I won't test unless they invite old players back to test it for free for a week or so. No way in hell I will give money to AV easily again.

they will but ofc not when ESO is in its first/second month
Welp that's it. I'm going to try it for a month and see what I think. I can see that they don't hold your hand even at the first stages. After I put in payment information it said 500 error, not telling me I needed to validate the email first. Once I did that, it went to the account page and was active. Let the patching begin.
I think it will be fun to watch the dynamics of those land grabs if nothing else and see which clans/guilds want to be in control. It will be like stepping into medieval Europe.
I know there is a chance it could be gone in a year or go free to play so better to find out before then if it's my sort of hang out. I swear if I get ganked up and down nonstop I'll be here crying like a little baby.
The politics are definitely really cool. There's a lot of smack talk and egos fly all over the place, but that's the fun part. I've never seen so much intrigue, drama, and conquest in a game... though I'm sure EVE probably has it beat.
EDIT: I'm not sure if this is your first time playing or not, but if it is, I would strongly recommend finding a clan that you fit in well with and playing with them. You definitely can play this game solo, but it's a lot more fun to play with a clan. This game really shines at small - midscale pvp imo, and having a group of people that you play with regularly helps with that. There are sea towers, prowess monoliths, villages, etc that are all designed around group pvp.

Yeah, politics are pretty active for our two clans eh holo? I believe our two alliances have been warring each other over the last month or so. I didn't stay up for the late siege, so who won?

I made the mistake to buy ESO. I would easily test DFUW if it was free, and I think alot of old vets would as well. ESO is something different. The games cater mostly to different type of players.
I can't say they're not trying to insert depth into the game, but something feels very wrong at the core of UW; the absence of racial meaning? the classes (a step backwards imho compared to the old system, which admittedly needed some fine tuning)? the clunky animations/ combat system? the horrendous racial models?
probably all that together, but i can see AV is trying their best to make the game more strategic. It just deosn't click (not yet at least).
So many jaded players posting on the video. The players are going to be the ones killing Darkfall.
This system looks amazing!
You people blame everything but AV. People didn't quit DFUW due to "jaded players".
DFUWs failure or success rests entirely on AV,
How on earth can you ignore the fact that people posting vitriolic, toxic bs in every thread and every video related to DFUW is going to deter people from ever even trying the game, regardless of whether or not they would like it?
I'm sorry you guys got your feelings hurt by a video game company, the rest of us have no problem taking the game for what it is.
It is BS because almost every post is either completely lacking in substance or simply comparing it to DF1. It's a good game, and I've said many times before, its biggest problem is a lack of population. You seem to want to pretend that filling every thread/video comments section with people who don't know what they're talking about but will shit on the game no matter what somehow DOESN'T hurt the population. Ok, I guess.

ilives is no more. User deleted. Dunno if he hated to much on DFUW and MO and got banned, or if he realized he could spend time elsewhere doing things like actually playing games instead of hating, and deleted his account. :P
That's kind of the thing. I obviously don't have a problem with anybody who dislikes the game for whatever reason. Just be an adult about it and go do something else. There are people who still enjoy the game and want to see it improve.
Looks like the patch is going in today. Here is the updated and complete patch notes:
