ESO release could be monumentally worse...

Hello all :)

Were you around in the days of dialup? Now Imagine releasing or playing an MMORPG on dialup: If you weren't there to experience it, you cannot even begin to fathom, or even remotely imagine what transpired. Zone crash, Server Crash, etc... and so on over, and over, and over...ad naseum. I remember hardly playable MMORPGs that people still talk about in reverence when reminiscing the good ol days of MMORPGs

Years often went by without a release of a notable MMORPG simply because of so many failures in this genre, wherein companies and investors lost millions of dollars (not including the countless hours, personnel, creative energy, etc..), trying to release the next big successful MMORPG. I.E. Age of Conan, Shadowbane, Vanguard (Brad McQuaid even put his own foot in his mouth during development of Vanguard by saying "Too many developers/investors release million dollar flops in this genre."; only to release one of the biggest MMORPG failures in the history of the genre) and well though I don't play SciFi MMORPGs the failures Star Wars Galaxies and Star Trek Online.

I remember when subscription to play an MMORPG was the standard; now its highly criticized and scoffed at by many who persist in saying free 2 play should be the new standard; How the freak do you expect a development team effectively release and address content in a timely manner in a persistent world that is supposed to be up and running 24/7 without a hitch...without incentive so they are properly motivated and inclined to give a shizz?? ESO is brilliant to not only release with a subscription they've already drawn the funds from the players account for the following month even before the official subscription month started and now many cannot login because they haven't followed suit :) Genius! Face the facts folks; If you want a truly successful MMORPG in the long run you got to pay up front, initially!

I will admit the combat animations are not even remotely impressive, yet you gotta give ESO props for bringing real time combat to an MMORPG. Its one thing to have real time combat in a single player game like the Elder scrolls series; its entirely another to have it in an MMORPG. Instead of complaining about combat animations; offer suggestions for improvement and tweaking of certain animations. Be happy your not dealing with turn based, or rounds type of combat. It may take some time for Matrix like real time animations, yet we will get there someday :)

Ya I am sure there are alot of bugs; do yourself and your fellow player a favor by submitting the proper feedback and if everyone does so accordingly it will surely get addressed and fixed in a manner of priority as all things usually are handled in an MMO. Development, Alpha and Beta tests only go so far...they are almost always in a relatively controlled environment and setting. Retail is the final test...an ongoing test that includes everyone who chooses to participate; Everyone who chooses to invest their time, energy, and money in future of The Elder Scrolls Online!

Now is the time to stop complaining, whining, criticizing, etc..and do what it is that you need to in order to make the game enjoyable not only for yourself, your fellow teammates, guild, server, etc...If your having to come to forums while the game and your server is up and running then your obviously something is wrong that YOU ultimately need to address and in effectively addressing it you help yourself, your fellow teammates, guild, server, and ESO in the long run.

Simply avoiding participation or jumping ship isn't going to help this game be all it can be. Every MMORPG that releases in this genre helps improve this genre as we are all in this together...so we might as well enjoy it. If your not thoroughly enjoying it at least take the time to vent properly through the proper channels INGAME and/or participate wholeheartedly so as to express yourself thoroughly through gameplay and be recognized INGAME.

WoW can be played on dialup.  Just saying.  WoW servers don't crash all the time.

Not sure about other games, but it's just going to depend on bandwidth requirements, which are generally low for gameplay.  Patching is a headache though, but that is expected.

So your argument is that ESO isn't as bad as some random garbage games from 10 years ago? Ok. As long as you are happy playing that piece of shit cash grab game then don't worry about what everyone else says about it. Maybe they don't care about improving the game and want to eat popcorn while watching it crash and burn like it was pretty much designed to do honestly. As long as people continue to be suckers we will keep getting games like ESO.

I remember playing FPS games on dialup. You couldn't actually put your crosshair over your enemy and fire as you knew dam well the player won't be there when you fired. :)

You actually had to predict/guess where your enemy was going to be and then fire hoping he'd run into the bullet. :)

Yup I remember this oh so well :) Played original Unreal and players just figured out how to not only lead an opponent they got the feel of it down so well it was quite impressive. Ended up being highly rated and my primary choice of weapon was the flak cannon...not talking about focus firing flak either...I was lobbing flak balls (much like a quarterback throws a hail mary pass) and hitting players right on their heads...imagine doing that on dialup...yet I had it down.Would always say, "Nice Catch" whenever it hit the sweet spot (Head); which was quite often (won most deathmatch games).

It wasn't long afterwards players started using hacks like aimbot, etc..which ruined it for everyone...

Just because something "could be worse" doesn't make it good.

Here endeth the lesson. Bore off mate.

Why do people insist on lecturing everyone else about their high and mighty opinions? I disagree with most stuff you've banged on about, including the rubbish about dial up and the need for a sub (and yes I played UO from launch but can't be bothered to come on here and pontificate about it).

Off to play ESO, because I'm enjoying it, not because you tell me I should.
