LOL. As much as that would be awesome. I dont think I could spend 15+ hours a week, every week for a year lets say, watching an ESO movie.

While I can spend that much time playing an ESO game.

I would definitely pay to watch a full length movie like that. I don't know why cinematics like this, SWTOR and WoW aren't made into full length films.

only a moron would think that any cinematic represents gameplay

anyway, nothing wrong with admiring the trailers for what they are. I enjoyed them.

This is totally true they have so much potential. Even the Warhammer Online's CG trailer was cool for it's time.

I was reading a post a while ago on Jeremy Soule's timeline where Blur had sort of screwed him. That got me interested in them and what they do since I hadn't ever heard of them before. They do video cinematic trailers for games that sell based on the visual and emotional appeal to the target. They never really have game play footage or sell the game based on what it is. They make stunning trailers that are horrible for the industry as a whole. They are regarded as the "go to" people, when your game sales aren't measuring up, and need a shot of "wow" to crack the wallets open. It obviously works.

So making advertisements as a whole are bad, are horrible for the industry?

The "hater" mudslingers are having to grasp at anything to try and justify and quantify their dislikes.

Using make-up bogus facts that Blur Studios purpose for making the trailer is to support lagging game sales is, idiotic to say the least.

Blur is a CGI studio thats all, they do game trailers, commercials and movies.

But then I guess by your logic Thor: The Dark world was going to flop way into production a year+ ago, and thats why they hired Blur? < if you havent seen the movie you may get some spoilers>

Not to mention, although this should be so obvious (which is why Im going to point it out), the Blur ESO trailers were in production long, long before release. So the whole idea of yours that sales where lagging is why they made the trailer, must carry logic with the way you see things. Which incase you didnt know, isnt how the rest of the world sees it.

(Psst, because there were no sales figures when they were hired, incase you didnt get the point of that sentence)

Come on guys if the best you have is picking on a trailer, and not actually picking apart what you dislike about a game, then youre in a sad, sad place.

Do some research on Blur. I didn't make anything up. In fact a couple of my favorite games have used them (Neverwinter for one). That doesn't change what they're used for and how the industry perceives them. They're used to bolster sales that aren't meeting numbers or boost the pre-release image if marketing doesn't think they'll meet their target.

I don't dislike ESO at all and think it's a fine game. I don't dislike most games. That still doesn't change what Blur is and what they're used for.

I agree with the above couple of posters. Blur should do the graphics for a full length movie. From what I've read though their fees are astronomical and that might be why they haven't been commissioned for such.

I didnt go white knight, what you said previously was really stupid.

Bur does advertisements, and of course advertisements are there to generate interest which then boosts sales. Thats all they are, and thats what people use them for.

You were and some-what still are implying is that Zeni's reason to use Blur was because their marketing dept thought the game was going to release bad. Which is silly.

Blur was used for advertisement, not lagging sales. I can almost guarantee that this five minute release trailer was in production for over a year, and most likely longer.

Im a big fan of Blur Studios and people come to them sometimes three to four years in advance of a release to storyboard out their ideas.

Which is why I jumped on what you said so vehemently. To suggest that Zeni's marketing two to three years ago was worrying about sales, is...

Ummm thank you for stating the obvious?

I guess you were really disappointed after watching this trailer and stopped playing FFXIV ARR right? image

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h542YbZuwkQ

Actually, no, because that trailer told the story of what happened between FFXIV and FFXIV:ARR. It actually is part of the story if you played FFXIV and saw Bahamut *in game* getting bigger every day until that final night when they shut down the servers. Even better, if you play FFXIV:ARR now you see impacts of this fight in the landscape *in game*. This trailer and the game play in a whole different league than ESO.

The ESO trailer is completely out of context, i still have no idea what is going on, who is who in that trailer and what they are fighting over. It's FLUFF, really bad fluff and has nothing to do with the game. (maybe you can explain)

Sorry but FFXIV trailer didn't represent combat, game play system or PVP of actual game. That was the highlighted part.

You can't just do the  U TURN and then forget the rest of the points and just talk about the story.

Your bias and double standards are showing.

Ofcourse when it comes to FFXIV nothing comes even close to its league right? considering you are such a die hard fan of the game..do you see the irony here? ESO fans and you are two ides of the same coin.

Both trailers do not represent the actual game play in any way.. both are fluff and both serve the same purpose..advertisement.

Well...TESO is changing the MMO world already

Their players already praise their beta numbers with the amount of big macs sold around the globe.

Also showing off with an amazing cinematic trailer that has got nothing to do with the game.

Truly, its a game changer. Long gone are the days when the company goes straight up and says the active subs. Long are gone the days of hyping players by showing in-game footage and systems.

This my friends is the new face of MMOs xD

And everyone who agrees with me is a bloody hater!

Huh? you make it sound as if this is new trend . Cinematic trailers which got nothing to do with actual gameplay is something that has been going on for almost 8 to 10 years now.

I'm saying that the publishers for those games wanted to meet certain numbers and marketing and demographic research told them that wasn't certain or likely, or there were results that said "we need more". That is why this particular company is used. Just do me a favor when you have some free time sometime and look them up. Look up what other companies and industry people have to say about them. Look up why people choose this particular company to do their promos and why they're paid so very handsomely. What they do they do very well. That's all.

I don't think what they bring to the industry is necessarily positive and it has nothing to do with ESO specifically. It has to do with a certain corporate aspect of the industry that I think affects us all and the industry itself negatively. Not all adverts and not all trailers are negative in this way, but this company, in my opinion, is.

If nothing else just keep a watch over time, now that it's been brought up and watch. Keep an eye out and notice what publishers use this and for what titles. You don't have to agree with and I'm not looking for you to say I'm right. I would just like you to observe them over time, after and outside of ESO.

    Dude its called advertising.

Its not about floating  a sinking ship. I cant believe youre still trying to imply that companies only use Blur if there in marketing trouble.

Your posts are making less and less sense. Your pulling ideas out of thin air when the facts show, by Blur own web page, that people use them for advertising, commercials, movies and that they pay a premium because they are good at what they do.

Youre still trying so hard to show that only the desperate use them.

Nope not a die hard fan of it at all just because i made a site in BETA exploring it and using it in my banner. I am actually a die hard fan of FFXI but that is besides the point.

Let me tell you about patch 2.2 of FFXIV and why it sucks. Removing one token for another for no reason other than to conceal a nerf in token rewards. Creating new weekly entry barriers. An entry barrier to the new Leviathan extreme fight. Extreme grind to upgrade Relic weapons based on pure "luck of the drop" where some people spend 12h+ without a drop. Gardening is gated by access tot he free company house which is ties to privileges not everyone will give out freely (needs separate category). There is more but you get the idea.

But, getting sidetracked here, that does not change the fact that the two trailers are not in the same league.

    • One is tying a story together telling what has happened.
    • The other one is a collection of action sequences with no context at all.

I thought that trailer was terrible.  It has no point - at all.  And it had zero relation with the game.  At all.  Just some CGI masturbation.

I've been considering getting ESO even though beta bored me to death to the point of not even logging on most of the time I had access and that trailer didn't do a whole lot to positively inspire me - more like just more boring pointlessness like beta.

Even if you are enjoying the game how can you think that trailer was anything but a waste of 5 minutes?  Surely they can come up with something better than that.

You're posting on an internet forum about how you dislike a game and yet  still waffling about buying it and you turn around and bitch about something being a waste of time?  Ok.

Maybe you should reserve your time for something other than complaining about CGI trailers for a game you think is boring but your still considering buying.  Because, you know, your time's obviously precious.
