I check out MMORPG sites occasionally to see what is new in the pipeline that I didn't already know about. I checked out MMOHut ...
.. and there was this ArcheAge article, that pretty much sums up my own observations, but put in a presentable way with pictures! (be clear the first picture has the OP intentionally trying to make an ugly character, which players can do will-fully)

It's a long article / review, so I just included the conclusion as a quote.
Conclusion
My time in the Russian Open Beta has re-confirmed my hype for ArcheAge. When I first heard of ArcheAge over a year ago, I was instantly excited by the concept. Now that I’ve gotten the chance to play the game in-depth, I cannot wait for the Trion NA/EU beta to begin. The blend of themepark and sandbox concepts and content is nearly perfect, and I was surprised at how well it was done. Unfortunately, it has been announced that Russia will be IP-banning all but a select few nations, and so I won’t be able to play anymore. Here’s to hoping Trion gets their version of the game into Open Beta testing ASAP!
Well damn. What if every MMORPG game had interesting features? [and btw the Russian game is awesome]
ArcheAge is scheduled for release in 2014 for US / EU (in 3 languages). That will make it the only AAA sandbox game available. Even if sandpark, it's still the only AAA sandpark game available. Unless EVE gets counted.
The freedom is mindblowing. A genius mix of themepark and sandbox, with another mix of PVE and PVP. XLGames didn't create just a game, they created a world to live in. What's your MMORPG space property value worth?

". Scarecrows and houses are also unavailable to free accounts,"
no housing.....no play....haha see they dn't mention that....scam...nearly all other mmo's coming will not only have the housing integrated but will have it player driven....
so no sense playing it ..all the "features" are p2p
Trion is learning something from Rift f2p.. If you give away almost everything for free, hardly anyone will pay.

NA Version =/= Any other AA version. On the live stream they said player housing is unlocked to F2P NA.

If only this were true. I love the fact that you call it a 'scam' when you thought you might actually have to pay something for content.
Before long you'll see people asking for money since they spend time playing MMOs
I don't know anything about the game ArcheAge but Trion said that housing is available for F2P players.
The thing about housing is that you have to pay taxes in order to keep "living" in them. These taxes can be paid with in-game currency or real money.
Considering that this is a sandbox with themepark mixed in, perfect combination for a MMO, there is a HUGE market for epeen stuff. This game could be a success just by selling vanity items only . Let's see how the ArcheAge devs and Trion devs get along in order to make this game NOT P2W, only time will tell.
Vanity items are surely not P2W, so there would be no problem.
As for taxes, if you own a physical spot on the world map, then that is where taxes come into play. Own as long as you like, but if you (or anyone else) stops playing, then that land get's presented to other players.
It's a reasonable method to prevent graveyards of abandoned houses. If you abandoned a house, it will be torn down and someone else will own it. Foreclosure?
A community of active players is far more enjoyable than a community of inactives ... in foreclosure, losing property, is bad... The land will get recycled though.
Other people want to play and own land too .. and land is limited, so they will need to earn it.

Even with the ridiculously low rates on RU if you plan trades right you can get lots of resources for very little LP.

Never played AA, but have played EVE for around half a year before I quit and I can confidently say that, while the game is interesting with lots of things to do, it is also 75% of the time boring as hell. All you ever do is train skills, mine, mine, and mine some more till something big happens.
