Question about leveling through PvP

mmoesportsmmoesports Member UncommonPosts: 161
In one of the interview, I read that you can level only through PvP.  Anyone tried that yet?  I know it won't be as efficient as normal leveling route, but I want to know if there are any players that started living in Cyrodiil from level 10 to max.

I have not. While possible, as you imagined, it's not ideal. They recently changed a repeatable 20 enemy kill quest to a daily because people were exploiting it. So, it's far less viable as a leveling option than it was before that change. However, that's not the only PvP quest. There are other repeatable quests.

So, in short, can you level in PvP? Sure, but you're not going to be happy with your progress if you are a goal oriented power gamer. You're going to need to slip some PvE questing in there somewhere.

If you're just happy PvPing and don't mind a slower ride to 50, there is nothing that I know of (correct me if I'm wrong fellas) that will stop you from going from level 10 to level 50 in PvP.

It got heavily nerfed just before launch.

The repeatable quest is not daily instead. You can maybe get 1/5 of your level each day in Pvp now.

PvP does not award experience right now.

Some say it is small compared to PVE but the amount you get doesn't really invite comparison.   If you want to level you need to go grind mobs and do quests.

If you plan to just pvp starting at level 10 plan on being level 10-15 for I would say at least the entire week.

Outside of the daily quests which get you about 1/3-1/4 of a level your XP bar will not move.

So ya it is possible to get to 50 in Cyrodiil just like it is possible to build a house out of toothpicks.

Worth noting as well, that VR1 to VR 10 takes about twice as long as 1 to 50. Cyrodil only boosts you to 50 and VR gear is much better than anything you can get at 50.

So, levelling through PvP is not only slow, but will be very difficult when you start to face VR players who have taken the quick route to max level.

I am glad you cannot level through PvP, in fact I think you should get no levelling XP at all in PvP. A good MMO keeps PvE and PvP quite separate, otherwise you get exactly what's being talked about here. People will skip PvE or PvP when the rewards from one can be found in the other.

I completely disagree. There's a reason DAoC is regarded so highly as one of the best PvP MMORPG games.

    ..Cake..

Do you fear that PvE players in your content would be barren mate?

Why is it good to punish people who would like to level up through PvP?

So they could be force to do what you enjoy?

Sometimes I really don't get the stupidity for so many MMO gamers.

Try to look at it from our viewpoint.

This isn't about skipping PVE.  If PVE is fun we will do it and if we don't enjoy it we will skip it. This applies regardless.  Nobody is going to sit there all day playing a game they don't find fun no matter what the developers or other players say.

The only thing this does is ensure most of us will not be in the pvp zone until we are 50 or VR10.

In the meantime though, many guilds aren't having as much playtime together as they might be if they were allowed to play together in the pvp zones for reward rather than doing solo questing.  This decreases the social aspect of the game for many dramatically.

I also have to mention some players who bought the game because they thought it would be a more PVP focused game are flat out leaving.  Not everyone has the heart to go through all that PVE content before PVPing any more than the more die hard PVE players would enjoy having to put a few weeks into the PVP content before they could perform well in PVE.

It just isn't good for anyone, Zenimax, the players, the long term health of the game in general.  Its a bad thing and any way you try to spin it to make it sound like a good idea is just so much spin.

Depends. Leveling to 50 by only killing players will be a tedious task.

If leveling through PvP includes doing public dungeons and completing quests in the different NPC battled villages. Maybe. Especially the quests in NPC battled villages give good amounts of exp and often present you with the opportunity to attack or get attacked by other players.

PvE content in the PvP zone is the same experience as PvE content in the non-PvP zones. I wouldn't classify that as PvP levelling though, whilst there may be a risk of PvP, you aren't there to engage in it, you're there to kill mobs and do PvE quests.

Some1 out of my guild does pvp since he is level 10, he was emperor with level 34 then, means he leveled up 24 levels just in pvp.

You could for about a week level somewhat slowly, but still reliably, by repeating the kill 20 players quest.

    This is no longer possible.

Zenimax removed our ability to repeat the quest and get rewards more than once per day.

As far as the NPC towns go the other posters mentioned.  Those give maybe 10 quests each before they are exhausted and are absolutely good for a couple of levels if you do each town in Cyrodiil.  They do take an extreme amount of time/effort to complete though as compared to PVE zones so it isn't exactly the same as PVE but in the PVP zone.  This can be mitigated somewhat by guesting to a server where your faction controls the entire map if possible.  You can then get a couple of levels in a couple of hours play.

Those quests can be kind of fun though if you don't care about the XP.

So you care how people are playing because....? If someone wants to just PvP and doesnt care much for the story, dungeons, grinding mobs, etc should they not also be able to progress their character from winning in PvP? It's not like WAR or DAOC where you have RRs or something on top of XP levels to make up for a lack of XP.

I PvP a lot, but I don't expect to really level while in Cyrodill. After a few days I jump out for a few days of PvE so I can gain a couple levels pretty quick. Currently sitting at level 25 and started at 5 days early access.

Cyrodill is sort of a PvE to get ranks and gear then come back and PvP. I don't really see a way to get gold and purple drops to break down for crafting w/o doing the Vet content. I only see blue boxes at the vendors and have never seen a blue item mailed to me in Cyrodill.  I hope you don't have to due massive PvE to get these items for the mats to upgrade the gear you want to craft.
